I think Nadal has played too much tennis and his body just got tired. If he was 100% fit, he would have won it. He now just needs to take a rest and then prepare for next week. He should do better next week though.

nadal put up a fight in the first set and then just ran out of energy in set 2. oh well, there's always monte carlo :)

I'm not sure this was a strategic tank from Nadal, maybe he hit the wall physically - either way it's a necessary loss, given his overcrowded schedule and the important events coming up where he can gain points. Andreev broke him 6 times in 10 service games, that's pretty convincing.

Yay! I like Nadal a lot, but I also like Andreev. I like his game and I like the fact he is low profile, no hype and he just looks really sweet and I hope he has a good run.

Igor trained in Valencia...he s feel at home. He beat Juanqui at RG last year and took Rogi to 4 sets in the Gstaad final, so he's no slouch on clay! ;)

My first thought was also "could it have been a tank?", but I don't think so. He is too young ;) and ambitious for that, I feel.

I don't think Rafa would ever tank a match...it's not in his tennistic vocabulary! ;)

Maybe it's a matchup thing, Andreev can play high balls without a problem. But so much with clay is to do with fitness, it's so hard to get clay streaks unless you're an animal. Nadal will become that but not yet.

If he wanted to save energy, he could have just lost against Juanqui. :p :p :p :p :p

There goes the vcash:) Nadal is young so he will have days like this tired or not. At least this gives him a chance at a more important tourny next week. Good work Igor!

Good job, Igor. I'm going to humour the possibility that Rafa was just dandy but Igor was better today.

I'm not sure if you're kidding or not, but this is very true. There would have been no shame in losing to JCF, or in the round before Andreev. No excuses :p

I can't imagine Rafa strategic tanking... Can't remember who suggested that, but come on. He doesn't even usually do that in doubles. I've heard of it happening once in doubles, and that's it ;)

I watched the match on tv here in spain and Andreev played really well, very aggressively and hammered nadalīs serve. The first set was close and had great rallies but at 5-5 Andreev picked his game up and ran away with the match. Some of his winners were amazing, so much power and control, great angles and hitting the lines. He had a great day and celebrated with a little skip and a fist pump. The crowd were very into it, very fair and enjoying it.

Andreev was playing brilliant. saw the match, and he hit a few fantastic points. it's not fair to say Rafael was tired, it was even more a fantastic playing Igor. if he keeps playing like this, he may get in the top 20 soon. maybe even higher, who knows? he's a very talented player..

Andreev is virtually a local as he spent many years training in Valencia and good for him he won. I'd like him to finally win a title at some point in the future.

Nadal bandwagon jumpers the wagon has stopped temporarily picking up passengers.

Andreev? Yeah, he's good. Problem is that he goes for everything all the time, so when his forehand isn't working he's out of the match. But as Gonzo has demonstrated, you can be that sort of player and still have some success, so I figure Andreev will be fine. It woudln't hurt to fiddle with his backhand or something, since it's... meh. I suck at the technical stuff ;)

It'll be refuelling and gathering speed again very soon.

I've seen Andreev quite a few times and yes, he has the huge forehand and his match with Gonzo at the Aus Open was funny, both of them just trying to slug forehands.

He lived in Valencia for a few years, so he should be able to speak the language.

They are doing refuelling and scheduled maintenance to the bandwagon as capacity increases and the need to move to a larger wagon.

Maybe this time they will bring us a caravan. Hopefully it has a big picture of Rafa's ass on the side. We'll attract people from miles away!

Okay, that was kind of rude. Whatever.

Rafael's ass is the only reason he has any fans at all. In fact it's the only reason he is on the professional tennis tour. Other than this he has nothing and should be a pirate.

It's just hard to imagine for me... a few weeks ago Karol beat Andreev 6-1 6-0... and yes ys, Karol IS a retriever.

We really don't need a wagon. We need a train car.

The Nadal Caboose: A nice view from the rear.
