What do you think ?

If Nico doesn't get good results I will not feel disappoint because I'm not waiting for good results for the first tournaments ;)

But would be good if Nico surprise me with some good matchs :)

Its going to be rough for him. He needs to be mentality prepared to lose for awhile, but I think he gets discouraged quickly.

I think coming back in Houston was a good idea. Most of the guys that go are not clay court players - so if he can get an easy draw and then win even the first round, it will help him. And he can't expect much in Rome - no such think as an easy draw in a Master Series event.

Latercera.cl said that he's practicing at the Club Palestino - is that in Santiago or Vina?

Says that he doesn't want to get reinjured agian.

I don't know what's up with him. Getting really discouraged here.

He has a terrible team surroudning him, because he refuses to speak to the press most of the time, we have no idea what type of special rehabilitation he's doing (if any), I can't imagine who he's practicing with that will allow him to get back to the level where he'll be game ready when he gets back, the only time he's in the papers when he with some "model" - when he should be training. And of course, Pato is still around whe he should have gotten rid of him a couple months back.

If he doesn't come back in Rome, something is really very very wrong.

Ricardo corrected us - he was promoting his image on some lottery thing...lol!

Trouble when you don't know the language.

I just think what hell Nicolas is doing with his career... Since he is with Pato he has taken wrong decisions all the time

So true Fergie - its one thing after another - first the delay in the hernia surgery, then rushing him back onto the court too soon and going to Australia when his foot was injured. This loco fight with Horacio.

Okay - who do we go to complain to...lol!!!!!!!!

And I miss Gabriel too. He was a great coach.

Can't stand Pato. Definitely will never ever never miss him :-(

Fergie

Sadly Gaby got bored to Nico ... I miss him

Nico, wake up and do the right things! :smash:

Exactly how I feel...lol!

Poor Nico - he's such a great guy but he has a lousy team surrounding him. But he doesn't seem to think so which makes me really confused - its so obvious! I can't believe he can't figure out that he needs a new team around him - new coach, new fitness coach, professional management.

Fergie

Nico will decide tomorrow if will play in Houston or will wait another week and back in Estoril

Thanks for the info Fergie!

Keeping my fingers crossed for Houston but doubt it. And if he doesn't feel ready, best not for him to push it!

Finally made my way over here :wavey:

I can't remember ever not liking Nico so I can't pinpoint a year but I do know that I've liked watching him since his early years as a professional.

I'm not up to date on, what sounds like, a coaching change that most of you don't like.

He has a terrible team surroudning him, because he refuses to speak to the press most of the time

I know that I may be in the minority but I like that. He's not obligated to speak to the press or to keep his supporters up to date on his physical condition. I know that it's frustrating because you only want to know but if he chooses to be private about it then that's his choice. If I knew that his management was forcing him to do press that he would rather not...I would be frustrated for him.

That said, I hope to be seeing Nico's name in Draws again soon. Not so sure that Houston would be the best tournament for him to come back though.

NicoFan
04-13-2005, 06:04 PM
He is frustrated with the press because he doesn't think they get the story right half the time, and it really started back in early 2004 when they pressed (and I mean pressured) him daily because he was close to getting into the top ten but he just got so tight and couldn't do it.

And you're right that he shouldn't have to talk to the press. But as a fan...and he should like us fans, we're nice... :) ...I missed hearing about him, and really worry about him. So maybe his dad could give us updates now and again. I know he doesn't want to talk to the press because they ask him about things he doesn't want to answer, but Papa Massu is good with the press normally.

Personally, I would like an update everyday ;) but I realize that I'm asking a lot. But once a week would be nice  Won't ever happen though... :tears:

Sadly the last time that Nico spoke with the press wasn't in the right way because he was angry and mad

Well, Nico will play in Houston.

At first I was happy, but then read that his doctor and fitness coach thinks he should wait another week.

Pato, however, thinks he should play Houston and Pato always seems to get his way. Of course, Nico's been injured for more months under Pato as his coach than he actually played, so that should tell you something.

:sobbing:

From Radio Cooperativa.cl:

Nicolas Mass˙ confirmed that will play again in the tournament of Houston after a meeting with his coaches, the tennis player number one of Chile decided to return al circuit of the ATP in the only contest on clay that is played in the United States.

After four months of inactivity for an injury in his ankle, Nicolas Mass˙ (18║ ATP) will dispute again an official match the next week, when he return al circuit of the ATP in the tournament of Houston.

The number one of Chile decided after a meeting in which present the members of his coaching body been: his doctor Alejandro Orizola; his physical coach Carlos Cardemil; and his coach Patricio Rodriguez.

Despite that in opinion of Orizola and Cardemil was recommendable to expect a week more to return in Estoril (Portugal), finally predominated the to feel of Mass˙ and of their coach, who they opted for travel to the American city for play the tournament that begins Monday 18 of April.

The reasons of the vi˝amarino and of his coach pass for "to test" the ankle and to begin to "to affirm it" with a view toward the subsequent commitments of the tennis player, that after Houston will undertake travel bound for Europe to continue with the season of clay, and that contemplates among others challenges the Masters Series of Rome and Hamburg, the Cup of the World of DŘsseldorf and the traditional one Grand Slam of Roland Garros.

The Olympic champion will travel to United States next to his coach this Friday 15 of April at night, although the possibility exists of be not presented al tournament in the event that inconveniences in the prior training exist.

Mass˙ has not play an official match since January 19 when by the second rounds of the Australia Open (before the German Phillipp Kohlschreiber) suffered a fracture by stress in the left foot, what impeded him to play for Cup Davis before Russia.

March 5, when the Chilean was prepared to play in Indian Wells suffered a tendonitis in the left ankle that again marginalized it of the circuit.

It recovered of the wounds Mass˙ intended to play in Montecarlo, nevertheless, desisted of the idea to expect a week more. Al not to play in the Principality will lose 75 points in the System of Entrance, what a backward movement of 10 places will be worth him. (Cooperative.cl)

And Fergie, what is Nico thinking taking Pato's advice yet again???? Hasn't that sweet boy figured out yet that taking his present coach's advice isn't a good idea?

So very upset...I will just cry and cry if he gets injured again...

Definitely love him!

And yes, I don't want to see our boy suffering any more. And besides being in physical pain, he's mentally having to deal with all of this. Enough of that. And I know he will be devastated if something else happens. (Me too...)

Hope he stays okay. Tennis is just not the same without him. Really miss him.

The Houston Draw is out!!

Nico is seeded #4 and will play Antony Dupuis in the 1st round.

My question is, why did he choose a tourney in the States over Barcelona?

He picked Houston over Barcelona awhile ago because coming off an injury he thought it would be easier since in Barcelona there are all the clay court players, but in Houston, most of the players are hardcourt players - a bit easier competition. I think its a good strategy. Hopefully when he practices up there Saturday and Sunday, things will go well for him and he'll feel comfortable. The poor boy needs to play again...I'm just a bit (well a lot!) nervous for him right now...too many injuries for too many months. Sure he's nervous too!

I think it's a very good strategy. I just don't like this tournament and wish that none of my favorites felt they had to play it (including Alex in Quallies).

Goes back to the Master Series event in Houston in 2003. He was just so annoying...so pro-American that it was making even Americans nauseated. When Roger beat Andre in the final, Mattress Mac ignored Roger, and only talked to Andre! People were amazed. I was embarrassed for our country. And that coming after the USO in 2003 where that director was too pro-American. Only had Andy and Andre practice on court in the few moments that there was no rain (that was the tournament were it rained for days). All the plyaers were complaining.

And Mattress Mac is much like his name. We don't want tennis to be elitist, but its another thing to have someone on these commercials selling discounts...come on down, get those discounts, etc.

I think after that Master Series in Houston in 2003, he got better because he realized he wouldn't get other players besides Americans to come. So it has gotten better.

What is wrong with this tournament? I hear mattress mac is very good to the players and that it is fan friendly. I noticed on the website that they don't charge for qualy rounds and that parking is free on those days. Very different compared to other places.

Nicofan answered most of your question for me :). Also it also goes to how the website is maintained. It's not one of the worst but it comes pretty damn close.

Also, the majority of tournaments qualifying rounds are admission free.

And McIngvale hasn't changed all that much if he thought the States would've beaten Croatia if the Tie was played there  . He hasn't changed that much.

So true...so very very true... ;)

And yes, most tournaments the qualifying are free. Even at the USO - which btw I bought my first week's tickets today - 8 days! - whoo hoo! - anyway I need to take out a small loan they are so expensive. But the qualifying and practice days are free. Which is miracle considering how they treat the fans there...

I also called to get a score of a qualifying match and they tried to feed to me that matches had yet to be played. This was at nearly 4 PM Houston time  . Then the lady goes on to tell me that they weren't given results yet. This is going to be a bad week for those of us following Houston more than Barcelona
