Transcript and pics from Tennis 2005 (Part I)
-What happens to you in the big tournaments?-In the bigger tournaments there are twice more points than in any other, I mean, to win 5 ATP tours and playing badly at the GS and super 9 is the same as not doing anything at all. You will never be in the top 15 doing that. Playing well 3 GS, 4 super 9 and not winning an ATP Tour, you're much higher. I think it's evident where you must aim. The motivation is different, I mean, you're in a mega tournament and they give you 1000 times more points than in an ATP tour. What else do you need?

-What is missing for you to win a Grand Slam?
-I was very close 3 or 4 times and I think that in the last rounds I was always with a physical problem, except the Wimbledon final.
When I was playing SF with Roddick I started the match with an abdominal injury and then while I was playing I injured my wrist. Then in Roland Garros when I was playing Gastón, I had an intercosta injury that I got while I was playing Guga in the round before. And that plays against you, when you're in a decisive round is when you have to play at your best. And in fact, Gastón played a great tournament and won it. And Roddick won it too, even when I has him at match point, with all that, it was hard.

Part II
-Has your tennis changed after Wimbledon 2002?
-After the Wimbledon final there was a change, a good one, cause after that I never dropped in the ranking and I'm always among the first spots. I realised that I could make it there, that I could play against the best players in any surface and fight for the first spots.

-Is Federer much better than the rest of the players?
-No, I don't think he's much better than us. I think he's a step ahead of us, but he's not unbeatable. I think he improved a lot his movility and his backhand. For me, that's what he improved the most.

-Tell me about your passion for rally
-When I was little I only went out to see rallies. I started liking it before tennis, all my life.

-Why didn't you dedicate to rally then?
-Because it was too expensive (laughs)

-Do you see yourself driving a rally car in a few years?
-Yes, maybe. I'll do something.

-Have you planned it already?
-No! I still have 8 years of career with tennis ahead of me, even more I hope, but well...Once I retire, yes...

I like the Federer comment from David; Not many guys no more about Roger's game than Nalbandian.

I guess so ;) Coria said that nowadays only two guys can beat him: Marat and David. I hope he's right!

It might be safe to add Nadal to that list as well; he certainly has proved so, no?

Nadal just needs to improve that serve, which David could also use some work on.

its not just counting for Federer, think that its for every player who is out there. if you don't think it you can make it, you probably won't succeed. If you think you have a fair chance of defeating him, it probably will give you more motivation before the match and it will creat chances during the match.

When Zabaleta had to face Federer he said that it was gonna be a tough match, but no one should leave him out, the match had to be played yet. And he almost made it :)

Thats very true. If you feel beaten before the match even starts, you dont have a chance in hell of winning.

Good thread, Jazz :yeah: Just watching Roger's several matches this year, quite a few players have chance of beating him, and i believe definitely they can do it, not only Safin, Nadal and David, but also Ljubic, Zabaleta, Ancic..... But what Roger is different from them is he can catch the rare chance of kicking, and believe he can win even he is behind in the match. Not only beating Roger, you can gain more confidence by beating any top 10 player, such as beating Coria on the clay, will be much motivated

and thanks Ernie for your information.

The good news is that David started the year much better than last year: He hasn't withdrawn of any tournaments, wasn't injured, and already beat a top ten this year, which he didn't do at all during last year ;)

Challenge with David Nalbandian

The confirmation that "Loco for Heber" will be shown in Fox Sports reafirms the good response the programme's been having in the capital's channels. While the awaiting air broadcast will be in June or July, the owner of the format will participate in some shows of the network in which he'll have some golf challenges with some football players.

In the middle of all the alternatives he's been managing, Heber Marchiono bonded with people near sports. This allowed him to play against David Nalbandian days ago.

The tennis player, as soon as he arrived the country, called Heber to play some golf and make the challenge a reallity which started in the last Davis Cup tie, when the guy from Tandil when to make a broadcast for his show.
For this compromise, Nalbandian arrived with a friend (he didn't revealed his name during the whole match). This motivated that Heber called a "great friend and brother from another life", the Boca player, Cristian Traverso. They played 8 holes because of the tennis player compromises and the winners Heber-Traverso. Even if it turned out a tight compromise, the said that "Nalbandian's partner wasn't in his day", which made it easier for the other couple to win.

Another challenge
In the last hole, with the game defined, Nalbandian propused the last challenge: playing a long drive (start shot with the drive, the one that gets further from the tee). The proposal was accepted immediatly by the rest of the players.
The winner was the tennis player who shot 310 yards, alsmost 20 yards more than Heber Marchiono who tried to hide his anger saying that David's ball had bounced in the dry part of the court, motivating it would slide in a long part.
They say that there will be a rematch in both encounters. In fact, who are near form the host and the tennis player, assure that they started teasing each other over the phone.
The willing of taking the trophy were graficated in two actions: Traverso and Marchioni celebrated their triumph in the 8 holes with a lot of hugs; while Nalbandian, when he won the long drive, he got in his knees and sreamed in the same way that when he wins in a tennis tournament.

Heber's conclusions
About the David Nalbandian challenge he said that "He's a great guy, very humble and with a great sense of humor, like a good cordobes". When he had to analyze him as a golf player he said that "he's very good; even if he doesn't have a national handicap, he could even be able to play a figure whenever he wants to. That's up to him. He's got a good drive, grip, tand and a subtile and excellent touch around the green. For me, he's a very complete player".
