Hi all.
I am posting to ask a favour of anyone and everyone. Two years ago, Jeff Coetzee was playing the best tennis of his career. He and partner Chris Haggard won Adelaide, as a warm up to the Australian Open-where they made the Semi finals two weeks later. As a career best, Jeff and Chris were obviously delighted and took a short break.
During that break, Jeff was visiting family. He was driving when he became involved in a tragic car accident. Jeff was badly hurt, and his young nephew killed in the crash. Suddenly, Jeff's world had been turned upside down. It took Jeff months to recover from the accident, he made his comeback roughly eight months later, where he and John Laffnies de Jaeger lost in the first round-it was clear Jeff was by no means as strong. He managed to finish the year, but with only one real result making a final in Bucharest, the rest first (or second) round exits.
Ever since, Jeff has never quite found his feet. After the AO, he achieved a career high doubles rank of 23, however at present he is 77th. Last week he and Mark Merklein won a challenger event in Mexico, and I hope this is the beginning of something good for Jeff.
I feel that he needs as much support as possible, which is why I would ask anyone who has seen Jeff play, or heard of him even-would sign the guestbook, or post comments on his website www.jeffcoetzee.cjb.net (http://www.jeffcoetzee.cjb.net) to show your praise for him. He has the potential to be a great player once again. I would like to make clear I am not using this as an attraction to my website, it has been running now for four months, and I simply feel now is a good time to enhance Jeff's confidence. I would be grateful for any help.
Andrew

yeah that's a nice idea Andrew...I know about that tragedy that happened in his life...it must be so hard to live with. I've met Jeff a few times (Bangkok 2003, Aus Open 2005) and he is SUCH a nice guy! I saw he won the doubles in Mexico last week...I'm happy for him...hope he can do well this year. If you ever see him, tell him Emily from Australia says hi lol...I'll sign your guestbook too.

Thanks for the background info, Andrew. I really didn't know that. I feel so sorry for him :awww:

I am glad he won Léon last week :) Even more happy that he did it with Mark Merklein, who had been struggling for ages too. He is a great doubles player (saw him in mixed at Wimbledon last year) and I hope he fights back and comes back stronger than ever :)

I remember hearing about that accident, but I couldn't remember who it was. Absolutely awful, it must be really hard for him, best of luck Jeff! I signed the guestbook :D

Stefano Galvani had two car accidents, if I remember correctly. Horrible for him too. He has been struggling too, though he is finally having some OK results at Challengers.

That is quite honourable of both Stefano and Jeff to step down a level, and play the Challenger events instead, just to get some experience back. So, so tragic.

Thanks to Adam for signing, and also Zara. Much appreciated.

I remember a memorable performance by him in DC last year where he broke his ankle, and yet continued to play. He and Chris Haggard were a good team, it's a shame Chris moved on to a more fit player.

It was basically that Chris couldn't do nothing for however many months it was, he had to keep playing to keep his ranking and fitness going.

Well, if they lost that match, they'd seriously need to be spanked :p

Jeff asked me yesterday to post this photograph of his nephew, Jean-Pierre, lost in the accident. He said to me he would just like people to know, those who perhaps are unaware.
