How many racquets have you smashed?

Heh.

I thought about this during my practice today (after smashing a racquet and tossing it aside)... how many racquets (if any) would you all say you've smashed in all of your tennis playing days?

I'll reply later so I don't embarrass myself too early. :p

None...it feels weird to say that. I have four racquets, each one older than the other as I just bought a newer model whenever it came out.

none....cant afford to smash racquets

although I did drive off with one on the roof of my car and come back 25 mins later to find it still lying in the middle of the road after having been run over a couple of times

but that was on the way to tennis, not on the way back, so it wasnt my subconscious wanting to damage a racquet after playing poorly :)

none as I would probably have to fix it after breaking it if i plan to play tennis using a racqet.

None, I'm too poor.

My tantrums are very controlled. Carefully place the racquet about three feet above the ground, and then drop it gently. ;)

I did once break a raquet by swinging it around in the basement and hitting a rafter in the ceiling. :retard:

Three smashed. Four broken. One of them i still don't know how broke, but I'm sure I'll never use a Wilson again, since 3 of the 4 were Wilson racquets.

I started when I was about 14, and broke a Wilson Aggressor. Not much of a problem, since it's not that expensive, i smashed it on the net, and it broke. When I came back, at 19 yo, I managed to brake a Prince TT Warrior OS and two Wilson PS Rok, one of them broke when i was hitting a forehand. And it wasn't sacrificed, since it was my reserve racquet, it was almost new.

Since then I'm using Yonex racquets, and it will make 1 year without smashed racquets. But I still got a long way to smash racquets since I'm still 21. Still, I'm not proud of smashing any of my racquets.

5 :tape:

In my younger years I was a lethal combination of Marat and a teen Roger on the tennis court :o

In my defense, one of those 5 racquets I was serving and my hand was sweaty and wet and as I was snapping the wrist the racquet slipped out of my hand and smacked into the concrete so I guess I'm excused for that one. The other four it was just sheer temper getting the better of me :o

I've broken four or five...But I've gotten better, especially having to pay for them! But I found hitting your foot causes you stop throwing your racket b/c it hurts, but it doesn't break the racket!

I can't afford to smash my raquets. I only have 2 and they cost alot to me. I don't understand how you can just throw away 200-300 US$ if you are not a rich tennis star who can afford it.

i haven't smashed any, but i do get very frustrated and i start yelling out if i get angry. Though in grade 6 we had to play bat tennis with heavy wooden racquets and i got angry at my doubles partner so as a joke i put the racquet on her head, but i didn't realise how hard i did it and she started crying and i got kicked off the team because apparently i really hurt her. Since then i haven't used my racquet as a weapon, and i prefer to play singles to prevent outbursts like that.

Jim only broke the one last year, in Tokyo-and those are the hardest courts in the world, so it didn't take much!

although I did drive off with one on the roof of my car and come back 25 mins later to find it still lying in the middle of the road after having been run over a couple of timesYou too, hun? On a recent road trip, I'd thrown my racket bag in the backseat on the off chance that I'd get to play. When we stopped to get gas, my husband needed to dig for his wallet and set my bag on the car's roof. I'd gone in to the ladies room and didn't realize what he'd done. Anyhow, it was my turn to drive and I pulled out...and on the highway...at 70mph (that's as fast as it gets here in the US...we were on a rural North Carolina road). Afore I knew it, I heard this...clunk-clunk-clunk. I thought'd I'd run over something in the road...until I looked in my rearview mirror. That's when the husband went..."Oh $hit! You're gonna kill me!"

There was my bag...in the middle of the road...with an 18-wheel tractor barrelling down on it. But it was mid-morning and folks were still alert. The trucker blessedly moved over into the other lane...and I carefully backed up on the shoulder. Husband jumped out to retrieve the bag and came back almost in tears. It was scuffed up pretty bad...but the rackets survived...as had my expensive (and newly acquired bolle sunglasses). And I got major brownie points...for not yelling at him. In fact, it's one of our best laughs these days.

And to answer the question specifically, and despite my sig...I've never smashed a single one. Raked the checkers off the board in a losing effort...but got over that as a 5-year old. Temper is...much more controlled now.

damn, glad all I had on the road was a $70 Yonex racquet :)

it took me alot longer to realise what I'd done....I got to the tennis courts and put my shoes on before I realised what had happened

I immediately knew where it fell off too......I remember when I was just about out of my suburb, a shadow passed over the back of the car which I saw in the rearview, but I thought it was just a bird or something....I immediately knew that was my bloody racquet

it had a few chunks taken out of the frame, and the cover was shot, and kindof melted (it was high 30's that day, midday, and had been lying on the road for 25 mins), but I still play with it

Maybe they even cash in for every raquet smashed, it is the best way for raquets to get attention if you know waht I mean....

Two.

The first one, it broke apiece two days later. But I wasn't too angry, because it was an uncontrollable reaction when I smashed it on the ground (after a dumb error).

The other one, it was more intentional. It was already worn and I wanted to buy a new one anyway, so I thought "Smash it, then you don't have a choice". :p

I have never smashed one. instead, when i do something stupid, i yell out an explitive really loud. it doesn't matter, cause i'm just playing with friends.

i did throw my racquet once. it didn't break, but it slid across the court a good 30 feet and got scratched up pretty badly. i still use that racquet to this day. i need *correction-want* a new one though.

Heh. Some good responses.

Weeelllll, my turn for story time now. When I first started playing, my dad (coach) told me that the quickest way for me to get sent off the court by him was to abuse my racquet. So I grew up with a pretty good temper.

Until I became a teen.

I think the first racquet that I deliberately smashed into the ground was a Prince model that I was using when I was 13. I was at the racquet club with my older brother (who was my practice partner) and I wasn't getting my forehand in the court. Out of nowhere I just raised the racquet above my head, smashed it onto the court and snapped it in half. (see attachment..the racquet looked something like that). Later once I got home my dad had a sit down with me and said that wasn't what to do when you're playing bad, yada yada yada.

Didn't smash another racquet for two years. I began playing with the Wilson Hammer H6 and found that I could throw it pretty well and hard without it smashing. My dad works for a racquet club and gets extremely good deals on all racquets, so that helped for when I DID need a new stick.

About a year ago I signed a "development racquet deal" with Wilson (which basically means they sponsor anything I need tennis-wise) and I must say that I've become a bit of a spoiled brat in taking advantage of it -- I've cracked one too many racquets since then.

I switched to the Wilson nCode n1 racquet at the end of 04 and it didnt take long to find how much easier it'll snap.. which stinks, becasue I used to be able to get away with throwing the racquet without cracking it. Not any more.

Anyway, if I had to take a guess at how many racquets I've smashed total, it'd be somewhere between 20-30. I've never smashed one while playing a match though, so that's one thing to be proud of.

I never, ever abuse my racquet.

First off, I'm not a professional - the company doesn't give me frames customized the way I like them for free. I have to buy them!

Second off, what's the point? If you're feeling frustrated, do it the Aussie way:

1. Pull a Rafter (ie. 2001 Indian Wells Quarterfinal) and be a majorette. Throw your racquet up high and catch it.

2. Be Hewitt. Just fix your strings.

2 racquets. The most recent one was pretty retardedly hilarious too.

I was playing a match and it was quite competitive, etc. I got lobbed while at the net, and I run back towards the baseline quickly. The lob was pretty heavy so it took off and after I hit it back I sort of ran into the fence. During running into the fence, one of my shoe laces got caught in one of the wire things at the bottom of the fence, and I became temporarily stuck to the fence. I had returned his lob successfully, but while I was stuck to the fence my opponent finished the point easily. I was a bit pissed off at the bs of the fence, so I hit my racquet into the fence out of frustration. I had intended to just simply hit the soft, flexible part of the fence where the racquet would not be damaged at all. Instead I accidently ended up hitting one of the very hard metal posts that holds the fence up and it totally cracked the side of the frame of my racquet. I ended up winning the match tho!
