I have no idea...He just played two clay matches this year, in the DC and won both of them, but that doesn't say anything...

It depends on his draw. Writing Coria off on clay, especially before seeing the draw, is never smart.

If he plays in the tournament he is defending his title. So definitely, yes. Do you mean ''repeat''?

Sorry Chloe, judging on his Miami performance he's gonna have to bring alot more on clay!

Dent is a superior HC player though, so it's tough to say. Dent would have won 8 of 10 if played over or again.

But good observation Chlo!

Let's hope Coria doesn't blow like Mogilny's knee! lolol!

Agreed. The proper title should've been "Will Coria Repeat as Monte Carlo champion?"

Top draw, Kensington! (buddyholly)

I agree that he hasn't demonstrated the same form as last year and that it will be difficult for him to win unless he steps it up. If he doesn't, he's out of the top 10, so pressure might be a factor. He probably won't be my pick when the draw comes out  I just won't write him off

When was his last Grand Slam win? They showed him in the Miami "champions" commercial here on ESPN. He must be thought of as someone with a promising clay court season!

Vamos Guillermo Coria (Yaremo!) :woohoo:

And yes, Mogilny's best days were in Buffalo when he tallied 76 goals in the 94-95 (I think) season!! Lucky for him, he was acquired by NJ so he picked up his ring (or did he  )

What do you mean? He won 3 matches in Australia before losing to Nalbandian. That was a good showing, all things considered.

He's popular among the 12 year olds because he kind of looks like them. That's probably why they are pimping him off in commercials :yeah:

Yeah, he did. Mogilny is okay by me, he's just old and injured and useless a lot of the time. He's good when he can play, but then he just breaks again. Just like all the other geezers in Toronto.

Who knows? I would say no because the odds are against it just the like the odds are against most players winning the tournament at the start (see betting rates) other than super dominant players like Federer or Sampras in the past.

Ok. This is a hard ass post to pull off, but I'm attempting to work on quoting individual phrases and replying as necessary. Props Chloe!

I was just curious. Didn't he pick up a French along the way? He had a great fight against Gaudio last year!

lol, He's got that babyface to him, huh? :) Pretty smooth. He must use alot of soap and water, and a nice shave too BTW!

Mogilny can still put up 20 I think. He should be used as a PK threat as well + 1st/2nd line. Klee is slow and aging. But you have a great team! I really hate Belfour though. 99 finals!! Grrr! NO GOAL!

Mwa-ha-ha!!! *looking for psychic smilie*

NATAS, you're  because you have one of the best Baldy avatars.

was thinking about stealing one, but aren't we ?

Now, Will Coria win MonteCarlo?

Last year, the easy answer was YES, of course he will win (No draw was needed, just give him the trophy)

An now, the easy answer is No....

but Coria is Coria and is working hard to win Monte Carlo again.

Great things happen in clay season.

LOL! This is absolute classic! Thank you so much! I take pride in this because it's hand crafted - Resized and cropped to perfection, to get the hand in there as if he's calling the spirit world - His head acting as the crystal ball - and the pure smile on the face - He always has that "dazed" look.. lol Gotta love Dr Dre! :wavey:

I would absolutely love for you to cop one of my Andre pics! I pick them myself and do the work, I'll resize for you and everything - Good quality too! Just PM me if you want your own DELUXE DR DRE of THUGANOMICS avatar!!! (COLLECT ALL 8 ! ) :bounce:

What would you say, in your own words, is Coria's main problem this year compared to last? Groundstrokes? Movement? Maybe a past injury lingering??

I think he has a great chance to save his many clay court points! Vamos Yaremo! :yeah:

He might be in a bit of a slump trying to find his game, but clay is his favorite surface we shouldnt forget. He surely can, will he? Thats up for grabs, I'd say hes got a good chance to repeat if he finds his rhythm and good form.

I'd pick him to win whatever the draw. He is el mago on clay. This is the point of the season where he rediscovers his best form.

Lack of confidence and the past injury lingering in his mind.

He had to change his serve motion.

He does, you can expect him to be better on clay.

Ok, what injury was it? Sounds like shoulder or abdominal strain.

Thanks for the breakdown of King Coria, PMac! ;)

Wow! I hope he does! So many people saying great things about his clay game! It's a shame ESPN doesn't show these clay tourneys! I hope an American faces a gaucho at RG, sounds like real good stuff! :yeah:

I hope he faces Federer in the queterfinal or something so federer can destroy him on clay once again. Coria fans seem to think the hamburg final was only a fluke or that the surface was not enought clay, now I want Federer to beat him once in every of these 3 events but I am not sure he will get far enought to face him, or if even Coria will be good enought.

I doubt that Coria can defend his title. He's not playing as well this year as he played last year.

That said, I would be overjoyed if he won. I'd love for him to be kissing that big trophy once again. :)

Nope, Coria can win Hamburg this year if Federer wins Monte Carlo and Rome, but as this is almost impossible, I just want each to take one of the clay AMS events and let the other to Nadal or Gaudio, hehe.

Vamos Coria! ;)

He hasn't played that many matches on clay, so who knows? although if he has the form from last year, then possibly yes.

Coria is always a chance in any claycourt event and I think he should be able to get back into claycourt tennis without too many problems, as for whether he will defend the title. I am not sure about that I would like to see the draw first, but he is very comfortable playing in Monte Carlo and that will help him.

well, considering the odds he has to win RG, whatever draws he has from now on it shouldnt really matter right, he'll be supposed to win anyone except Roger....but I as many ppl doubt he's got the best form right now to win in MC, so I'd rather say No. but u never know right.

i watched Coria's matches from last year (the tennis channel is replaying them this weekend), and i think he can do it again. he is just so awesome on clay. and you get the sense that he is always strategising, always thinking, always trying to figure out a way to manipulate racket and ball to help him win. he can do it again. and he has my permission to beat Federer just this once ;)

Sjengster
04-09-2005, 04:39 PM
With that draw I can't see him losing before the semis; Mathieu, Beck, the awesome might of Lisnard/Johansson the Elder on clay and then Ferrer, Henman or Zab in the quarters won't have him shaking in his shoes. Then things get a little more interesting...
