We've decided to throw you a going away party, Mrs. B! We're going to miss you while you're in the islands, so I thought it would be nice to set up a thread for you, to easily keep you updating on what's going on here on the boards (and so you could have one place to post updates yourself, because you know we're going to be living vicariously through you!!)

And what better place to put it than in the Rogi forum? :)

I also just want to say again what a great addition you've been to our forums, both here and in the Juanqui forum. I always enjoy reading your posts, be they about food  or boys :lick: or the beautiful mountains right outside your door  It's just not going to be the same without you.

:) Hey, Mrs. B.!

We'll try our best to keep the boards lively even without your bright and cheery posts! We may not be able to make the great food you create, but we'll add our own little treats. ;)

Whatever news we find, we'll post it for you.

Any Rogi tidbits will be duly noted in your absence!

We're already missing you!!

:wavey: Mrs. B :wavey:

Have fun on your vacation. Don't forget to take lots of pictures of the beautiful islands of Phillippines and show us :) . And don't forget to put the suntan lotion on:D. I'm sure you'll have fun with your family and relatives there. We'll miss you very much while you are away but we'll try to keep this place warm so you don't feel the difference when you come back from the tropical zone.

:wavey: Hi Mrs. B! :wavey:

Have a nice vacation. Remember us when you are grilling those yummy fishes with banana leaves.

May be the islands will inspire more songs from you and we all can one day have a CD by Mrs. B.

Bon Voyage!

Mrs. B!!!!! :)

We are really gonna miss you. It's just not going to be the same without you. And while you're on the islands, remember all the snow people you've left behind. :D I hope you have a great time and just for you, i've written this little poem.....

Mrs. B is her name
she's funny, smart and classy
I got to know her here
cause she's a fan of Rogi

She's always been so nice to me
and to everyone else too
she always opens the day with a smile
a cheery warm welcome for you

She lives in the land of Rogi
so close to the sexy Swiss
i wonder if he'd ever ask her to
if she'd drop the Mrs. for Miss!

Happy travels we all say
we'll miss you while you're gone
the party girl we know you are
sleeping all day and up til dawn!

;) :)

Hey, Guys!!!

What a thoughtful thing to do in my absence, creating a thread for me!!!

You guys are really sweet. You make me feel at home here. For sure i'm gonna miss you all and i'm gonna miss it coming here on a regular basis. :( What'll i do during the Australian Open? It won't be the same and i wonder if i'll have access of that tournament where i'll be.
But i'm pretty sure you'll keep the thread going... cheering on for our dear Rogi (& Juanqui)...

Lily, thanx for the lovely poem. *hugs* that's really sweet of you. :)

and of course, BIG HUGS to everyone else (this is a group hug!)---i love you guys! One couldn't ask for better friends on the net.

Sorry I'm a bit late for the party, but I'm here now. ;) This really is a wonderful thread, kudos to TH for creating it. :)

Mrs. B, you're a truly wonderful poster  and the board just won't be the same without you. I really hope you can stay in touch and fill our cold winter days with some of your sunshine. :) When can we expect you back?

Anyway, enjoy the good life, the beaches, the delicious food (which I hope you'll describe in mouth-watering details ;) ), the cocktails :D , strumming on your guitar, lying on the beach... Ooops, I'm getting carried away. :o And take some pics of Rogi with you, so you don't miss the picture threads too much. ;)

Here's looking at you Mrs. B - a beautiful, intelligent, funny and incredibly warm and joyful woman (not to mention a fabulous cook)! http://www.smilies.org/basesmilies/bier.gif

:) Hello all!

Mrs. B. you must be getting excited about taking off to the warmth of your homeland! It snowed today -- but just a lot of lovely flakes -- now it's sunny and most of it has melted away...

I loved Lily's poem to you! It is beautiful and touching and clever! It brings a tear to MY eye too! :)

Hello again! :wavey:

My in-laws just left, they had to eat my leftovers...and brought some more things with them as I have to clean and unplug my ref tomorrow. Gosh, i wish i could sit still and chat with u guys but i still have many things to do...finish my laundry, iron, clean up the flat, shop tomorrow for cheese to bring, and finally, to give my car to the new owner. We'll also eat out tomorrow so i don't have to make any more mess in my kitchen, so i might come in a bit later...but for sure i'll expect you guys here to have a drink with me!!!

And for sure i'll report to you on this thread about my activities, same as i'll read here what has happened in my absence and also with keeping up with the latest results from our darling players... :)

See you all tomorrow!!!

You must be so excited
Going home,and to the sun
To see your friends and family
And have many weeks of fun :)

Everyone will miss you
You know that much is true
But we all hope you enjoy yourself
In whatever you do

The sun will be shining brightly
Having x-mas on the beach
And thinking of me freezing here
Whilst you are exposed to heat!

Take all our thoughts and words with you
On your journey across the world
Ill cheer for Rogi in your absence
Cant wait until you return!

Let It Snow!

Oh, the weather outside is frightful,
But the fire is so delightful,
And since we've no place to go,
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.

It doesn't show signs of stopping,
And I brought some corn for popping;
The lights are turned way down low,
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.

When we finally say good night,
How I'll hate going out in the storm;
But if you really hold me tight,
All the way home I'll be warm.

The fire is slowly dying,
And, my dear, we're still good-bye-ing,
But as long as you love me so.
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.

The Twelve Days of Christmas
On the first day of Christmas,

All I Want For Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth
Every body stops
and stares at me
These two teeth are
gone as you can see
I don't know just who
to blame for this catastrophe!
But my one wish on Christmas Eve
is as plain as it can be!

All I want for Christmas
is my two front teeth,
my two front teeth,
see my two front teeth!

Gee, if I could only
have my two front teeth,
then I could wish you
"Merry Christmas."
It seems so long since I could say,
"Sister Susie sitting on a thistle!"
Gosh oh gee, how happy I'd be,
if I could only whistle (thhhh, thhhh)

All I want for Christmas
is my two front teeth,
my two front teeth,
see my two front teeth.

Gee, if I could only
have my two front teeth,
then I could wish you
"Merry Christmas!"

Yuletide carols being sung by a choir
And folks dressed up like Eskimos
Everybody knows a turkey and some
Mistletoe help to make the season bright

Will find it hard to sleep tonight
They know that Santa’s on his way
He’s loaded lots of toys and goodies
On his sleigh

The Holiday Season (or Happy Holiday)http://www.stopstart.freeserve.co.uk/smilie/partysmiley.gif

Happy Holiday
Happy Holiday
While the merry bells keep ringing
May your every wish come true

Happy Holiday
Happy Holiday
May the calendar keep bringing
Happy Holidays to you

It's the holiday season
And Santa Claus is coming back
The Christmas snow is white on the ground
When old Santa gets into town
He'll be coming down the chimney, down
Coming down the chimney, down

It's the holiday season
And Santa Claus has got a toy
For every good girl and good little boy
He's a great big bundle of joy
He'll be coming down the chimney, down
Coming down the chimney, down

He'll have a big fat pack upon his back
And lots of goodies for you and me
So leave a peppermint stick for old St. Nick
Hanging on the Christmas tree

It's the holiday season
With the whoop-de-do and hickory dock
And don't forget to hang up your sock
"Cause just exactly at 12 o'clock
He'll be coming down the chimney
Coming down the chimney
Coming down the chimney, down!

Happy Holiday
Happy Holiday
While the merry bells keep bringing
Happy Holidays to you

Happy Holiday

May the calendar keep bringing

:) Hi all! Popping in between work...

Yeah I love that song too Mrs. B. I have the music for it and every year I try to play it on my piano!! [I'm hopeless at the jazzy improv section but I try!]

Yeah and I do know that song you posted... my mind is elsewhere these days!

How about this one? Did anyone post it yet? Diana Krall did this one a couple of years ago:

Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas
from the film Meet Me In St. Louis
Hugh Martin, Ralph Blane 1943

Have yourself a merry little Christmas,
Let your heart be light
From now on,
our troubles will be out of sight
Have yourself a merry little Christmas,
Make the Yule-tide gay,
From now on,
our troubles will be miles away.

Here we are as in olden days,
happy golden days of yore.
Faithful friends who are dear to us
gather near to us once more.

Through the years we all will be together
If the Fates allow
Hang a shining star upon the highest bough.
And have yourself a merry little Christmas now.

Gonna miss ya something awful, Mrs. B.!

EL DESEMBRE CONGELAT

Traditional Catalonian Carol

El desembre congelat,
Confus es retira.
Abril de flors coronat,
Tot el mon admira,
Quan en un jadi d'amor
Neix una divina flor.
D'una ro ro ro,
D'una sa sa sa,
D'una ro, d'una sa,
D'una rosa bella,
Fecunda y poncella.

El primer Pare causa
Le nit tenevrosa
Que a tot el mon ofusca
La vista penosa
Mes en una mitja nit
Brilla el sol que n'es eixit
D'una bel bel bel,
D'una la la la,
D'una bel, d'una la,
D'una bella aurora
Que el cel enamora.

El mes de maig ha florit,
Sense ser encara,
Un lliri blanc y polit
De fragancia rara,
Que per tot el mon se sent,
De Llevant fins a Ponent,
Tota sa sa sa
Tota dul dul dul,
Tota sa, tota dul,
Tota sa dulcura
I olor, amb ventura.

English Translation: THE ICY DECEMBER

Cold December's winds were stilled
In the month of snowing.
As the world fell dark one night,
Springtime's Hope was growing;
Then one rose-tree blossomed new,
One sweet Flower on it grew.
On the tree once bare,
Grew the Rose so fair,
Ah, the Rose, ah, the Rose,
Ah the Rose tree blooming,
Sweet the air perfuming.

When the darkness fell that night,
Bringing sweet reposing,
All the land was hid from sight,
Sleep our eyes was closing.
Suddenly, there came a gleam
From the sky, the wondrous beam
Of a heav'nly star,
Giving light afar;
Ah, the star, ah, the star,
Ah, the star-beam glowing,
Brightness ever growing.

Now the month of May was here,
Filled with God's own radiance;
Now the purest Lily bloomed,
Flow'r of sweeted fragrance.
To the people far and near
Came a breath of heav'nly cheer;
O, the incense rare
Of the Lily there!
Ah, the scent, ah, the scent
Of the Lily blooming,
All the air perfuming!

Another of my personal faves . . . ;)

God rest ye merry, gentlemen; let nothing you dismay.
Remember, Christ our Savior was born on Christmas Day
To save us all from Satan's pow'r when we were gone astray.

Chorus:
O tidings of comfort and joy, comfort and joy!
O tiding of comfor and joy!

In Bethlehem, in Israel, the blessed Babe was born,
And laid within a manger upon this blessed morn;
The which His Mother Mary did nothing take in scorn.

Chorus

From God our heav'nly Father, a blessed angel came;
And unto certain shepherds brought tiding of the same;
How that in Bethlehem was born the Son of God by name.

Good King Wenceslas look'd out on the feast of Stephen,
When the snow lay round about, deep and crisp and even.
Brightly shone the moon that night, though the frost was cruel,
When a poor man came in sight, gath'ring winter fuel.

"Hither, page, and stand by me, if thou know'st it, telling,
Yonder peasan, who is he? Where and what his dwelling?"
"Sire, he lives a good league hence, underneath the mountain;
Right against the forest fence, by Saint Anges' fountain."

"Bring me flesh and bring me wine, bring me pine logs hither.
Thou and I will see him dine, when we bear him thither."
Page and monarch forth they went, forth they went together.
Through the rude wind's wild lament and the bitter weather.

"Sire, the night is darker now, and the wind blows stronger.
Fails my heart, I know not how, I can go no longer."
"Mark my footsteps, my good page, tread thou in them boldly.
Thou shalt find the winter's rage freeze thy blood less coldly."

In his master's steps he trod, where the snow lay dinted.
Heat was in the very sod which the Saint had printed.
Therefore, Christian men, be sure, wealth or rank possessing;
Ye woh now will bless the poor shall yourselves find blessing.

Glory to the newborn King;
Peace on earth, and mercy mild,

Joyful all ye nations, rise,
Join the triumph of the skies;

Hark! the herald angels sing,

Christ, by highest heaven adored
Christ, the everlasting Lord;
Late in time behold Him come
Offspring of a virgin's womb.
Veiled in flesh the Godhead see;
Hail th' Incarnate Deity,
Pleased as man with man to dwell;
Jesus, our Emmanuel.
Come, Desire of nations come,
Fix in us Thy humble home;
Rise, the Woman's conquering Seed,
Bruise in us the Serpent's head.

Second Adam, from above,
Reinstate us in thy love.
Hail, the heav'n-born Prince of Peace!
Hail, the Son of Righteousness!
Light and life to all He brings,
Ris'n with healing in His wings.
Mild He lays His glory by,
Born that man no more may die,
Born to raise the sons of earth,
Born to give them second birth.

Well, regardless . . . this is probably my favorite religious carol. The lyrics don't do it justice -- the music is the real mover.

O holy night, the stars are brightly shining;
It is the night of the dear Savior’s birth!
Long lay the world in sin and error pining,
Till He appeared and the soul felt its worth.
A thrill of hope, the weary soul rejoices,
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn.

Refrain

Fall on your knees, O hear the angel voices!
O night divine, O night when Christ was born!
O night, O holy night, O night divine!

Led by the light of faith serenely beaming,
With glowing hearts by His cradle we stand.
So led by light of a star sweetly gleaming,
Here came the wise men from Orient land.
The King of kings lay thus in lowly manger,
In all our trials born to be our friend!

Refrain

Truly He taught us to love one another;
His law is love and His Gospel is peace.
Chains shall He break for the slave is our brother
And in His Name all oppression shall cease.
Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we,
Let all within us praise His holy Name!

Refrain

The first Noel, the angel did say,
Was to certain poor shepherds in fields as they lay;
In fields where they lay keeping their sheep,
On a cold winter's night that was so deep.
Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel,
Born is the King of Israel.

They looked up and saw a star
Shining in the East, beyond them far;
And to the earth it gave great light,
And so it continued both day and night.
Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel,
Born is the King of Israel.

And by the light of that same star,
Three wise men came from country far;
To seek for a King was their intent,
And to follow the star wherever it went.
Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel,
Born is the King of Israel.

This star drew night to the northwest,
O'er Bethlehem it took its rest;
And there it did both stop and stay,
Right over the place where Jesus lay.
Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel,
Born is the King of Israel.

Then entered in those wise men three,
Full reverently upon their knee;
And offered there in his presence,
Their gold, and myrrh, and frankincense.
Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel,
Born is the King of Israel.

Give ye heed to what we say:

And he is in the manger now.
Christ is born to-day!
Christ is born to-day!

Good Christian men, rejoice,
With heart and soul, and voice;
Now ye hear of endless bliss:

He hath oped the heavenly door,
And man is blessed evermore.
Christ was born for this!

Good Christian men, rejoice,

Carol of the Bells
Carol of the Bells is an adaptation of an ancient Ukrainian folk song called a "shchedrivka". An arrangement by Mykola Leontovych (1877-1921) was popularized in the 1930's by Oleksander Koshyts (1875-1944), a Ukrainian choir director who worked in the US and Canada. It has since become an American Christmas classic.

Hark how the bells,
sweet silver bells,
all seem to say,
throw cares away

Christmas is here,
bringing good cheer,
to young and old,
meek and the bold,
ding dong ding
that is their song
with joyful ring
all caroling

one seems to hear
words of good cheer
from everywhere
filling the air

Oh how they pound,
raising the sound,
o'er hill and dale,
telling their tale,

Gaily they ring
while people sing
songs of good cheer,
Christmas is here,

Merry, merry, merry, merry Christmas,
Merry, merry, merry, merry Christmas,
On on they send ,
on without end,
their joyful tone to every home
Dong Ding dong ding, dong Bong

Let There Be Peace on Earth and let it begin with me.
Let There Be Peace on Earth, the peace that was meant to be!
With God as our Father, brothers all are we.
Let me walk with my brother in perfect harmony.

Let peace begin with me. Let this be the moment now.
With ev'ry breath I take, let this be my solemn vow;
To take each moment and live each moment in peace eternally!
Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me!

In cloud, and majesty, and awe. Refrain

O come, Thou Rod of Jesse, free
Thine own from Satan's tyranny;
From depths of hell Thy people save
And give them victory o'er the grave.

Refrain

O come, Thou Dayspring, come and cheer
Our spirits by Thine advent here;
Disperse the gloomy clouds of night,
And death's dark shadows put to flight.

Refrain

O come, Thou Key of David, come,
And open wide our heavenly home;
Make safe the way that leads on high,
And close the path to misery.

Refrain

O come, Thou Wisdom from on high,
And order all things, far and nigh;
To us the path of knowledge show,
And cause us in her ways to go. Refrain

O come, Desire of nations, bind
In one the hearts of all mankind;
Bid Thou our sad divisions cease,
And be Thyself our King of peace.

Said the night wind to the little lamb,
"Do you see what I see?
Way up in the sky, little lamb,
Do you see what I see?
A star, a star, dancing in the night
With a tail as big as a kite,
With a tail as big as a kite."

Said the little lamb to the shepherd boy,
"Do you hear what I hear?
Ringing through the sky, shepherd boy,
Do you hear what I hear?
A song, a song high above the trees
With a voice as big as the the sea,
With a voice as big as the the sea."

Said the shepherd boy to the mighty king,
"Do you know what I know?
In your palace warm, mighty king,
Do you know what I know?
A Child, a Child shivers in the cold--
Let us bring him silver and gold,
Let us bring him silver and gold."

Said the king to the people everywhere,
"Listen to what I say!
Pray for peace, people, everywhere,
Listen to what I say!
The Child, the Child sleeping in the night
He will bring us goodness and light,
He will bring us goodness and light."

City sidewalks, busy sidewalks
Dressed in holiday style
In the air
There's a feeling
of Christmas
Children laughing
People passing
Meeting smile after smile
And on ev'ry street corner you'll hear

Silver bells, silver bells
It's Christmas time in the city
Ring-a-ling, hear them sing
Soon it will be Christmas day

Strings of street lights
Even stop lights
Blink a bright red and green
As the shoppers rush
home with their treasures

Hear the snow crunch
See the kids bunch
This is Santa's big scene
And above all this bustle
You'll hear
Silver bells, silver bells
It's Christmas time in the city
Ring-a-ling, hear them sing
Soon it will be Christmas day

Up on the housetop reindeer pause
Out jumps good old Santa Claus
Down thru the chimney with lots of toys
All for the little ones
Christmas joys

Chorus
Ho, ho, ho!
Who wouldn't go!
Ho, ho, ho!
Who wouldn't go!
Up on the housetop
Click, click, click
Down thru the chimney with
Good Saint Nick

First comes the stocking
Of little Nell
Oh, dear Santa
Fill it well
Give her a dolly
That laughs and cries
One that will open
And shut her eyes

Repeat Chorus

Next comes the stocking
Of little Will
Oh, just see what
A glorious fill
Here is a hammer
And lots of tacks
Also a ball
And a whip that cracks

Repeat Chorus

Oh Little Town of Bethlehem
O little town of Bethlehem,
How still we see thee lie!
Above thy deep and dreamless sleep
The silent stars go by;
Yet in thy dark streets shineth
The everlasting Light;
The hopes and fears of all the years
Are met in thee to-night.

For Christ is born of Mary,
And gathered all above,
While mortals sleep, the angels keep
Their watch of wondering love.
O morning stars, together
Proclaim the holy birth!
And praises sing to God the King,
And peace to men on earth.

How silently, how silently,
The wondrous gift is given!
So God imparts to human hearts
The blessings of his heaven.
No ear may hear his coming,
But in this world of sin,
Where meek souls will receive him, still
The dear Christ enters in.

Where children pure and happy
Pray to the blessed Child,
Where misery cries out to thee,
Son of the mother mild;
Where charity stands watching
And faith holds wide the door,
The dark night wakes, the glory breaks,
And Christmas comes once more.

O holy Child of Bethlehem!
Descend to us, we pray;
Cast out our sin and enter in,
Be born in us to-day.
We hear the Christmas angels
The great glad tidings tell;
O come to us, abide with us,
Our Lord Emmanuel!

We three kings of Orient are
Bearing gifts we traverse afar.
Field and fountain, moor and mountain,
Following yonder star.

Chorus
O star of wonder, star of night,
Star with royal beauty bright,
Westward leading, still proceeding,
Guide us to thy perfect Light.

Born a king on Bethlehem's plain,
Gold I bring to crown Him again,
King forever, ceasing never
Over us all to reign.
(Chorus)

Frankincense to offer have I.
Incense owns a Deity nigh.
Prayer and praising all men raising,
Worship Him, God on high.
(Chorus)

Myrrh is mine: Its bitter perfume
Breaths a life of gathering gloom.
Sorrowing, sighing, bleeding dying,
Sealed in the stone-cold tomb.
(Chorus)

Glorious now behold Him arise,
King and God and Sacrifice.
Alleluia, alleluia!
Sounds through the earth and skies.

Have a holly, jolly Christmas;
It's the best time of the year
I don't know if there'll be snow,
but have a cup of cheer.
Have a holly, jolly Christmas;
And when you walk down the street
Say Hello to friends you know
and everyone you meet.

Oh, ho, the mistletoe
hung where you can see;
Somebody waits for you;
Kiss her once for me.
Have a holly jolly Christmas,
and in case you didn't hear,
Oh by golly, have a holly,
jolly Christmas this year.

For those with their first snows of the year . . . :)

Oh, the weather outside is frightful,
But the fire is so delightful,
And since we've no place to go,
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.

It doesn't show signs of stopping,
And I brought some corn for popping;
The lights are turned way down low,
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.

When we finally say good night,
How I'll hate going out in the storm;
But if you really hold me tight,
All the way home I'll be warm.

The fire is slowly dying,
And, my dear, we're still good-bye-ing,
But as long as you love me so.
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.

AAUGH!! I FOUND IT!!!

This is the version of "Sleigh Ride" that I like -- LEROY ANDERSON!!

Anyway, it's better without the words, but:

Just hear those sleigh bells jingle-ing
Ring ting tingle-ing too
Come on, it's lovely weather
For a sleigh ride together with you

Outside the snow is falling
And friends are calling "You Hoo"
Come on, it's lovely weather
For a sleigh ride together with you

Giddy-yap giddy-yap giddy-yap let's go
Let's look at the snow
We're riding in a wonderland of snow

Giddy-yap giddy-yap giddy-yap it's grand
Just holding your hand
We're gliding along with the song
Of a wintry fairy land

Our cheeks are nice and rosy
And comfy cozy are we
We're snuggled up together like two
Birds of a feather would be

Let's take the road before us
And sing a chorus or two
Come on, it's lovely weather
For a sleigh ride together with you

There's a birthday party at the home of Farmer Gray
It'll be the perfect ending of a perfect day
We'll be singing the songs we love to sing without a single stop
At the fireplace while we watch the chestnuts pop
Pop! Pop! Pop!

There's a happy feeling nothing in the world can buy
When they pass around the coffee and the pumpkin pie
It'll nearly be like a picture print by Currier and Ives
These wonderful things are the things
We remember all through our lives

Sleigh bells ring, are you listening,
in the lane, snow is glistening
A beautiful sight,
we're happy tonight,
walking in a winter wonderland.

Gone away is the bluebird,
here to stay is a new bird
He sings a love song,
as we go along,
walking in a winter wonderland.

In the meadow we can build a snowman,
Then pretend that he is Parson Brown
He'll say: Are you married?
we'll say: No man,
But you can do the job
when you're in town.

Later on, we'll conspire,
as we dream by the fire
To face unafraid,
the plans that we've made,
walking in a winter wonderland.

In the meadow we can build a snowman,
and pretend that he's a circus clown
We'll have lots of fun with mister snowman,
until the other kiddies knock him down.

When it snows, ain't it thrilling,
Though your nose gets a chilling
We'll frolic and play, the Eskimo way,
walking in a winter wonderland.

Walking in a winter wonderland,
walking in a winter wonderland.

HAPPY XMAS (War Is Over)
(Lennon/Ono)

So this is Christmas
And what have you done
Another year over
And a new one just begun
And so this is Christmas
I hope you have fun
The near and the dear one
The old and the young

Chorus:
A very Merry Christmas
And a happy New Year
Let's hope it's a good one
Without any fear

And so this is Christmas
For weak and for strong
For rich and the poor ones
The world is so wrong
And so happy Christmas
For black and for white
For yellow and red ones
Let's stop all the fight

Chorus

And so this is Christmas
And what have we done
Another year over
A new one just begun
And so happy Christmas
We hope you have fun
The near and the dear one
The old and the young

Chorus

War is over, if you want it
War is over now

Happy Christmas

One last song before i go. Not a carol, but one of my personal faves. Written by Tom Waits. Sung by Rickie Lee Jones

Rainbow Sleeves

You used to dream yourself away each night
To places that you'd never been
On wings made of wishes
That you whispered to yourself
Back when every night the moon and you
Would sweep away to places
That you knew
Where you would never get the blues

Well now, whiskey gives you wings
To carry
Each one of your dreams
And the moon does not belong to you
But I believe
That your heart keeps young dreams
Well, I've been told
To keep from ever growing old
And a heart that has been broken
Will be stronger when it mends

Don't let the blues stop you from singing
Darling, you've only got a broken wing
Hey, you just hang on to my rainbow
Hang on to my rainbow
Hang on to my rainbow sleeves

:)

:( Sorry, Mrs. B. and Doris but Rogi lost his match to Koubek today in St-Anton... good thing it's only an exo!

Here is the info in German [sorry!]

Koubek steht im Finale - gegen Kiefer, Schalken oder Novak

Der zweite Tag der tele.ring Tennis Trophy in St. Anton am Arlberg - hier alle Match-Berichte!

Stefan Koubek - Roger Federer
6:4, 6:1

LOOKS like it's Koubek/Kiefer in the final or sth...
:p

OK Rogi, go back to Switzerland for the Awards...

:) Hi everyone and Mrs. B. and Doris!

Well, Simon Ammann won the Credit Suisse Sports Awards last night but that's what we expected -- he looks 12 years old to me! Funny guy!

But at least Rogi came in 2nd this year!! Next year I'm going to try to vote for him! Sportler des Jahres: 1. Simon Ammann (Skispringen) 45,9 Stimmenprozente. 2. Roger Federer (Tennis) 19,7.

They [mytennis.ch francais] said that this would have been the crowning touch on Rogi's year. Even though he had his ups and downs, he has been steadily gaining ground in the world's elite of tennis players. After a brilliant start and his wins in Sydney and first TMS Hamburg, he experienced a crisis which culminated in the tragic loss of his mentor Peter Carter. Yet Roger managed to rebound in the fall, coming back in the US Open, getting to the semis in Basel and winning his 3rd title in Vienna. Finally he qualified for Shanghai where he played a brilliant TMC, reaching the semis until the eventual champion defeated him. Roger ended up #6 in the Race, the best ranking for a Swiss tennis player.

So, we have to be very proud of our Rogi -- he's a champion in our eyes! Congratulations, Rogi, for a year well done!! :D

And they didn't mention his doubles titles w Max in Rotterdam and Moscow!

Mrs. B emailed me and said she couldn't get into the board :( but this is what she has to say:

"Hi, Hackie, i cant get into atpworld :( so please relay to everyone my warmest regards. I cant write that well either, the light's so bad and and i can't stay that long. Thankx for keeping me posted, will read hitman's part as well as go to juanqui's forum and see what everybody's been up to, but not yet. The trip went smooth, not much turbulence but i couldn't sleep either, still having problems with the time zone but it's getting better. Today we finally hit the beach and we have a small bungalow right in front of the beach--perfect. We stayed in Cebu for a few days and spent time with my hubby's friends, played tennis, went shopping, etc. Couldn't do it in SG as our connecting flight was quick. Just had dinner now with my brother and his wife and will go to bed soon, we partied till 5 this morning drinking rum & coke. Haven't had those in ages. Well i don't intend to drink my holidays away, that's for sure, and tomorrow i'll go snorkeling and just laze around and read a book... got to go..will keep you posted. Ciao!!!!! Hi Mrs. B:wavey:

Glad to hear that you arrived safely and already having a lot of fun. So keep enjoying. Hope you got to come online once in awhile. The talented members of the gangs have cooked up a lot of goodies in the JCF forum. But beware, it's very addictive, not to mention great fun:D .

Wow that was quite a shocking loss from Roger!!

Well good to hear that Mrs.B had a save trip and is enjoying herself!!
Well as you can see I`m still alive too ;)
Just to bad it`s raining so we canceled the walk we wanted to do this afternoon.

Lily I promis I still cheer for Roger as hard as I can even though I`m not able to voice myself ;) Can`t wait till the season starts in Doha - then Sydney and AO (where I`m going to miss the first week thanks to the furniture fair in Cologne.... :( grrrr)

Well that`s it for now.

Nice to hear from you! I trust your trip went well too and you're now enjoying your vacation! Great! Yeah too bad about Rogi in St-Anton but it was only an exo. He should be practising for 2003 now I guess, then it'll be Christmas and he's off to Doha! I can't believe the season will be starting ALL OVER AGAIN!! OMG! Better buy my videotapes!

We'll all be cheering for Rogi soon, no matter where we are!

HELLO EVERYONE!!!!! :wavey:

Greetings from the beach! :D :D :D And it's full moon tonight!!!

I'm so happy i'm able to get in here today and will read up on what i've missed these last week. :)

Well, things are good in paradise. Pretty hot today and it's only 9 :30 a.m. Went to an Italian restaurant last night and met some of my brother's expat friends, 2 who are tennis players so i'm trying to play later in the afternoon, apparently there's a hardcourt place somewhere. We are staying on the far end of this 2 kilometer long beach and it's pretty quiet where we are, and our thatched hut is just in front of the water. Shells abound the sandy beach and there's a big drop off about a hundred meters beyond, it's teeming with marine life. Palm trees line the edges of our bungalow. Behind there are tall acasia trees and they cool the area.. There are also bungalows at the back, but we got the best place, i think. ;) There's not a lot of tourists around, i think everyone's scared from these terrorist threats, although some people from the city come over for the weekends. My brother and his wife are renting a house at the back. They used to dive in another area of the Philippines but are bent now on settling here. They have bought land and will start building their house...It's an ideal location with their child in tow, as it's quite close to the main town and they can still do their diving instructions.

Lily, i've only partied in Cebu that late, blame it on the jetlag, but we haven't even hit the bars on this beach. We've been hanging out mostly with my brother or we just read our books and go to bed early. All that sun makes you tired pretty easily.

Yeah, congrats to Simon Amman, i knew it. But good that Roger was second. One Slam win and he'll be in. It won't be long now. I read that he lost to Koubek in St Anton. Never mind...he probably still was in the Thailand state of mind... :)

OK, i gotta catch up on the rest of the thread as well as Juanqui's so catch u all later.

Big hugs and warm greetings to everyone---Hackie, Emma, RogiFan, Nina, Doris (in NZ), Lily, Layla, Hitman, Beat, Leo, Vera, Lee, Marie, Fonky, Becca...hope i haven't forgotten anyone...

:) Hi all! Here's an article on Rogi in German. If Beat is around, what does it say (just the main points)? Something about money and sponsors, new manager, in the big leagues now, eh, Rogi?

Artikel vom 18. Dezember 2002 / Quelle: Blick

:p

Breaking News...

I just read from someone who said they know a friend who knows a friend that Tommy had surgery yesterday. Major surgery on his shoulder, as we all know thats been bothering him for a while and he'll be out for 6 months.

I could be wrong, well they could be wrong so if someone can confirm this...Its still very early though.

Thanks RF, yes I decided to add Rogi's motto to my sig. I thought it was only fair since I am a Rogi fan and already having a quote from Guga. It was just the right thing to do and I love his motto. :)

Hi RF
Haven`t got time to translate it the way I usually do. It says that Roger contract with nike is running out and there hasn`t been signed a new one yet. He has good chances to make a big deal with a new clothing contract.

At the other hand the person Bill Ryan who took care of Roger at IMG has left the company. So rumors are around that Roger may break the contract with IMG as well.

Well I have to go dinner`s ready. Hope you all have a great time. I for sure have :). Just spend a wonderful day with my friends at the beach and doing some of thouse wonderful bushwalks in NewYealand.
Catch up with you guys later.

:) This from ATP:

ATP NEWS Dec. 26, 2002

The Storylines and Personalities Return For 2003

3.) Will Spaniard Juan-Carlos Ferrero and Switzerland's Roger Federer continue their quest for the No. 1 spot? Ferrero captured his second Tennis Masters Series event in 2002, Federer his first, and both nearly upset Lleyton Hewitt in the late stages of the Tennis Masters Cup Shanghai. With both of their games on the rise, these two stars could give Hewitt some serious heat.

4.) Are Grand Slam champions Marat Safin and Gustavo Kuerten ready again to challenge for the world's top ranking? Safin didn't win a title until November of last year, at the Tennis Masters Series event in Paris, while Kuerten spent most of 2002 recovering from hip surgery. But both of these popular stars can never be counted out for big-time tennis glory.

5.) In 2002, Carlos Moya had a superb season, capturing four ATP titles and winning a personal-best 59 matches. Now, rejuvenated at age 26, he looks to prove that he can add more titles - both on hard and on clay - to his mantle.

HOPP ROGI!! :D

Hope everyone had a lovely holiday! ;)

Hi, Everyone!!!!!!!!!!! :wavey:

Finally, a chance to drop by, it's been a while!

But first and foremost a belated Merry Christmas and HAPPY NEW YEAR to all of you!!!!!

I see atpworld had a facelift...:)

Well, where do i start, had a great Xmas with my family, to answer your question Vera, we don't do turkey, we have the traditional "lechon", which is whole roasted pig, and ate loads of fresh seafood, which was what i expected from home, and of course, drinking ice cold beer...:):) :) Good to see my brothers and we exchanged funny stories, sang songs, the women played mahjong, my nephews and nieces kept me good company. I think hubby and me put on a few kilos after those fews days...

We are now here in the island of Boracay and had a great New Year's Eve party, friends of hubby from Bern are also here, and we prepared a nice buffet, got some good red wines, and the kids threw loads of firecrackers in the garden! I hate those but it's part of the tradition here... Then there were 2 big parties on the beach, with dj's and all, we stayed up till 4 a.m.

Am trying to get back to the island rhythm after all that partying and i really want to work on my fitness. I swim when i get up, play frisbee in the afternoon, and do some beach balls as well. I met a girl who plays tennis and we arranged to play some time. We're doing a petangue tournament next week, and i'm reviewing for a diving course, but no rush, we're here till the 18th and in between it's nice to chill out in the hammock and read. Ah, beach life. The drawback is that reality bites! There's tons of mosquitoes in our cottage and in the compound while it's full of plants and trees, so i use insect repellent a lot, otherwise they're really vicious and leave an itch and a swollen red spot. The roosters start crowing after midnight  but you get used to it after a while. Otherwise, it's good to be here and to enjoy the nice tropical weather.

Gotta go, connection is quite slow here, but i'll be dropping by more frequently here than i did in the beginning of my journey. Sorry i can't read the other forums and will have a lot of catching up to do when i get back to Bern but i'm really happy that you guys are keeping in touch with me on this thread and i sure appreciate it that you haven't forgotten me. What can i say, I MISS YOU ALL and it's shit that i can't even follow tennis over here, but i've earned this vacation.

Anyways, BIG HUGS to all of you. Ciao!

LOL, RF and I had a time figuring out the pictures from Doha, but we've posted a ton of them. Michel won his first match of the year with a bagel :D but came up short against Roger, and Yves Allergo was also in the main draw so we've had a great time this week :)

Beach life sounds great. Lots of seafood:lick: yum! And *Mosquito* really bites:D :D :D. Okay, in real life, I hate Mosquito bcos every time I got bite, it turns into a big rash bigger than a loonie, it's terrible. So I can understand why Juanqui don't like to be called Mosquito bcos it's just an extremely annoying insect. Anyway, lots of food and lots of exercise, it's just great.

Well, enjoy it there. We'll be here waiting for your return. Rogi is doing fine at the moment and we'll be here to cheer him on for you.

DOHA Jan. 2, 2003

Federer Dumped by Gambill, El Aynaoui Also Wins
Moroccan still looking for Doha repeat.

Jan-Michael Gambill is having a blistering start to the 2003 season defeating top seed Roger Federer in straight sets to reach the semifinals of the Qatar ExxonMobil Open in Doha. Just one year ago, Gambill went 0-3 in January before turning his season around in February and March.

Now Gambill is having the kind of start to the season he had in 2001, when he reached the quarterfinals in seven of his first eight tournaments. Gambill finished 40th in the year-end ATP Champions Race in 2002.

In a match-up of former Doha champions, defending champion Younes El Aynaoui of Morocco defeated 2000 champion Fabrice Santoro of France in three sets to keep his hopes alive at becoming the first man since Stefan Edberg in 1995 to successfully defend a title here.

Also advancing were Mikhail Youzhny of Russia and Austria's Stefan Koubek. Koubek, who reached the quarterfinals at the Australian Open last year, lost his last 10 matches in 2002, but now finds himself in the semifinals of an ATP event for the first time since reaching the semifinals in Vienna in 2001.

What the players said:

GAMBILL: "He [Federer] is a very good player, one of the best in the world. I think we played solid tennis at a high level today. I had pretty good nerves the whole match and I didn't get angry. I kept hitting the ball hard. My ground strokes were as good as they have ever been, I'm very happy about that. I think I can improve my service pace and be more consistent."

"To win here would be the best preparation for the Australian Open. I've never won a match there, I would like to change that."

FEDERER: "My only problem was that my serve wasn't working too well. It made it difficult and he could attack on the returns. I missed some big occasions but he deserved to win in the end. I tried everything without success. He was volleying better that he has in our previous meetings. I've been maneuvering the ball better against him in the past."

"I didn't get close to my best tennis, that's disappointing. As the number one seed I had higher expectations that the quarterfinals. I think I missed a big occasion to go further in the tournament and maybe win it."

Let's hope he can do better next week in Sydney! ;)

I hate real mosquitoes too. When I got those swollen red spots, they can stay for over a week!!:fiery: :fiery:

BTW, if you guys don't know what is a loonie as mentioned by Vera, it's a one Canadian dollar coin. I think it's a bit bigger than 1" in diameter.

Hello again, guys! :wavey:

Island connection is still slow and this place is so crammed i'm sitting elbow to elbow with 4 other users. But like i said i could drop by more often than before, even if i can't stay that long.

Sorry to hear about Roger's loss, hope he'll fare better in Australia, i'm really keeping my fingers crossed for that. Hopefully i'll be able to catch it live on tv somewhere.

Hit/Diss: hurray i'm finally playing tennis this afternoon. There are 2 hardcourts at the back of the beach, but it's mostly booked in the afternoon and you can make reservations one day before.
We're having strong winds blowing from the north since New Year's day and it's pretty ideal for sailing.

Lee: yes, mahjong is pretty popular here but even if i know how to play it i'd rather use my time to play tennis or do something more productive.

Alrighty, gotta go, catch u all later...CIAO!!!!!!

Hi, Mrs. B :wavey:

Very nice to see you again :) Okay, if your connection is slow then I'll post everything in this thread for you.

So far so good, next week is when full play starts. So far, no luck finding a listing for Michel, but everyone else is playing in Sydney, except Richard Gasquet, who was invited to play the Kooying exhibition in Sampras's place :eek:

I wrote another installment for the story :) Nothing big yet, just keeping you posted on that.

I wrote a rant in the Juan Carlos thread, and I'll just c/p it here so you don't have to go dig:

All I can say is JUANQUI, just prove them wrong!! I think he can do it this year -- win a GS, that is!! Just VAMOS Juanqui all year!! ;) Moya too! For that matter, why not Safin and Federer, they're good on clay too AND can play on all surfaces, like the Spaniards!

You know, I was thinking about this last night as I was watching Juan Carlos's & Roger's Masters Cup match. And I've come to the conclusion that no matter what Juan Carlos does, he will be looked down upon.

If he ever wins the Australian Open/US Open/Masters Cup, it will either be called a fluke or blamed on the medium-to-slow surface. If he ever reaches #1 he will be called a fluke, no matter how long he holds onto it. Look at the fact that Corretja and Moya have either won the year-ending championships or reached #1, and they are STILL called clay court specialists.

If he ever wins Wimbledon I think the entire commentating community will have a fucking cow :D And it would automatically be blamed on a weakened draw or a fluke of luck.

The only way that I could see he would ever get respect as something other than a "clay court specialist" is if he managed to stranglehold the #1 spot for more than 2 years and/or defend a non-clay Grand Slam. Only if he was the biggest thing in your face a la Potato man this year would he get respect for his abilities.

Or perhaps if he totally decimated the US Davis Cup team (on whatever surface) more or less by himself. Which he could very well do this year :D

Hope you can visit again soon, but have fun playing this week! :bounce: We'll keep you updated :)

Blake upsets Hewitt to win Hopman Cup for United States
11 minutes ago

PERTH, Australia - James Blake upset Lleyton Hewitt 6-3, 6-4 and Serena Williams (news - web sites) beat Alicia Molik 6-2, 6-3 Saturday to give the United States its second Hopman Cup team tennis title.

The victories gave the Americans a winning 2-0 lead over Australia with a mixed doubles match to follow. The United States were losing finalists the past two years.

It was Blake's first win in five matches against Hewitt and came in just 64 minutes.

Molik, ranked No. 94, had not dropped a set in the mixed teams event heading into the opening singles Saturday, but world top-ranked Williams was an easy winner.

Hello again! :wavey:

Hubby and i are the first people here this morning so it's quiet. But connection is still slow...nevermind...;)

Hackie, thanks for the updates. Congrats to the USA for winning the Hopman Cup, Blake & Serena are a mighty tough pair to beat i guess, and i have no doubts in James' ability to beat anyone, including Hewitt. Can't wait for more tennis news!

There's been loads of winds blowing around here since New Year's and somehow it limits your beach activities unless you're into sailing or windsurfing. The New Year crowd has left and the island's back to it's quite groove again. Hubby and i spent the morning walking around the other side of the island, tide's pretty low and you see a couple of locals digging into the sand to look for clams.

We had raclette last night!!! Our friends from Bern seemed to be enjoying it and even the cheese quality wasn't bad. Funny what you can get from the islands these days... :) Even had English breakfast this morning!

Ok, big hugs to all of you and see ya later.
Ciao.

Hi Mrs. B :wavey:

Sounds like despite the wind you're having fun. I hope the rest of your vacation is just what you need, a little chill time :)

LOL at the food choices ;) Guess everyone is becoming a little bit Westernized.

As for tennis news, here's the Sydney draw. It has the potential to be a mouth-watering affair. Juanqui was scheduled to play Fabrice Santoro in the first round but Santoro pulled out with an elbow injury. Things are certainly shaping up for an interesting Australian Open.

:D Hey, Mrs. B.!

Good to hear from you again! Is it nicer now that most of the "tourists" have left? Raclette and English breakie -- sounds delic'! Watched a "cool" Filipino show on TV today called "Flip" -- it's about the Filipino community in/around Toronto -- with young hip hosts! I missed the food part though!!

Cheer for Rogi with us, Mrs. B.! Did you know that Mirka was in Doha w him? ;)

:wavey: Mrs. B, I come bearing bad news unfortunately :(

Roger lost in the first round of Sydney! He lost to Franco Squillari. Apparently he injured his leg in Doha, however (match against JMG, aka "Ken Doll"), and he's going to play the Aussie Open, he won't pull out. There's more in the Sydney thread in this forum if you'd like to read it.

Unfortunately, Michel failed in his mission to defeat the Ken Doll in Auckland  The boy needs some serious help for his head.

Jarkko and Juanqui are still in action Down Under, but both face tough assignments in the second round -- Jarkko gets Marat and Juan Carlos gets Youzhny  They play today so we'll see what happens.

Hey Mrs. B :)

Its nice to see that you can stop by more often. I hope you had a good New Years. This place still isnt the same, but it sounds like you're having a nice time. We miss you!

Well, everyone is very sad about Rogi and his injury, but he is determined to play the AO so we shall see. Only 6 more days!

A Paradorn update for you- He's doing very well lately. He won Chennai last week beating Kucera in the finals. It's his 3rd title in 5 months and now he's #14. He's playing Sydney now and yesterday he won his match v Draper. Dont know how w having no rest. Next he plays Max. I like them both, so whoever wins will be good. I'll keep you updated on what happens.

Talk to you soon, Mrs. B :)

Ferrero, Davenport Through to Sydney Finals
36 minutes ago
By Julian Linden

SYDNEY (Reuters) - Juan Carlos Ferrero recovered from losing the first to beat Rainer Schuettler and reach the men's final at the Sydney International Friday while Lindsay Davenport (news) booked her place in the women's final by beating Tatiana Panova after a long rain delay,

Ferrero blew a 3-1 lead to drop the first set against Schuettler before fighting back to win 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 and advance to his 15th career final.

Davenport, who won the Sydney tournament in 1999, beat Panova 6-3, 7-5 after their match was interrupted for more than an hour by a passing thunderstorm, giving the former world number one the chance of winning her first title since 2001.

Davenport raced through the first set and was level at 4-4 in the second when the skies opened up. Panova held her first service game after the re-start to lead 5-4 but the American won the next three on the trot to seal victory.

She will play the winner of the all-Belgian clash between Kim Clijsters and Justine Henin-Hardenne in Saturday's final while Ferrero faces either Wayne Ferreira or Korean qualifier Lee Hyung-taik in the men's championship decider.

Ferrero is the last remaining seed in the men's draw and showed why he was the favorite to win with a polished display.

The Spanish world number four even abandoned his traditional baseline game to approach the net and show off his volleying skills, which he said he's practicing to boost his chances of winning the Australian Open (news - web sites).

"I'm trying to be more aggressive on hard courts, going to the net more to close out the points," Ferrero said.

"I'm trying, I'm working on it, and I think today I did it well."

Davenport hasn't won a title since 2001 after injuries forced her to miss most of last season and said she was thrilled just to make the final at Sydney.

"I've definitely come a long way and it's exciting to see the progress I've made," she said.

Hi Mrs B

Hope you're enjoying your holidays. By the sound of it you do ;)

Well mine are already over. Managed to see one WTA match in Auckland Granville vs Gagliardi with Manu on the winning side :) !!
The men were a week later so no chance for me to check out on them. Michel might have already been in Auckland when I was there but just didn't bump into him :P oh well guess the place is just a little to big.

Well hope you'll do your extra cheering for Roger so he'll get well soon. (You may have heard that his right leg is bothering him - problems with the adduktoren - his muscels aren't long enough...)

enjoy the rest of your stay.

Hi Mrs. B :)

Just to update you, Paradorn ended up losing to Juanqui in the qts, which is still a pretty good result.

Rogi plays Flavio Saretta of Brasil in the 1st rd of AO. Haven't heard much of his injury lately, but hopefully he'll be okay in time for play. He's in the top half of the draw and they all play on Tues. We'll all be cheering for him here. :)

Take care, Mrs. B! :)

Kratochvil first through to second-round
Monday, 13 January, 2003
by Ashley Browne

Michel Kratochvil has become the first player through the second-round of the men's draw at Australian Open 2003 after an easy 6-3, 6-0, 6-3 win over Italy's Davide Sanguinetti.

On a sweltering opening day at Melbourne Park, in front of an enormous crowd, the 23-year-old from Switzerland was joined in the second-round by Karol Kucera, who beat Jan Vacek 6-2, 6-1, 6-4. Kucera was a semi-finalist here in 1998, after defeating Pete Sampras in the quarter-finals.

Also through to the second-round is Ecuador's Nicolas Lappenti, who defeated France's Melbourne Park-debutant Jean Benneteau 6-0, 6-4, 6-0.

Among the big names in action during the opening few hours of the men's draw are Thailand's Paradorn Srichapan who received treatment on an injured finger from a trainer on the court midway through the first set, French Open champion Albert Costa, South African veteran Wayne Ferreira and Australian left-hander Scott Draper.

Srichapan was awarded the honour of playing the first match of the Australian Open - the Grand Slam of Asia/Pacific - on Rod Laver Arena.
