Ferrer vs. Hrbaty on ESPN? Nope! Williams vs. Williams.... again.

This is like that time they showed Roddick's match three times.

It's just stupid. If you can't bother watching a match the first time, tough shit. You could tape it or SOMETHING.

I was looking forward to some great tennis tomorrow from players I like... and no Americans playing tomorrow! I should have known ESPN would find a way to ruin it. :)

They showed more men than women at Indian Wells (since Davenport was the only prominent American woman playing) so they are probably trying to "make up" for it by showing more women this time.

The best thing for us tennis fans to do is buy all of the Williams sisters' "fashion" items in bulk. When their business takes off, then they will be convinced to retire from tennis and pursue their "fashion" interests full time. Then more TV time will be cleared for other players.

I guess there's no use in being happy the American players are all out of it if all they do then is replay their earlier matches after they've gone. So sad. This is just as good as replaying an Agassi match from 2004 which they did when they had a chunk of time to spare during IW.

How about current World No.1, 4 slam champion and top seed Roger Federer? They can show Federer vs Ancic last night if they want to air Williams sisters this afternoon (since the schedule was out early yesterday).

Anyways I don't get why they would show 3 women's matches in a day.

I did that a couple of hours ago, the Labadze comment on the Georgia mix-up was certainly good for a few laughs. "Is Georgia not a Russian state, as California is an American one?" Imagine how insulting that must be to a Georgian, although coming from the genius that is the tennis media it's probably not too surprising.

Who in healthy mind would expect ESPN to show these two when they didn't have a chance to have all Williams match in convinient for watchers time? Even if they hadn't had Williamsx2 to show.. There are some fantastic doubles matches going live at the moment...and they'll never see the light of a fiber optic cable.

As for the bottom half of the draw, ok, it may not be as exciting as it could be. But neither are the WS. They never play well against each other and last night was no exception.

I was looking forward to seeing one of the Mens matches that was not shown the first time around, like Ancic vs Haas, Federer vs Ancic, or Henman vs Stepanek. When I found out the Wiliiams sisters were playing I stopped my replay tv from recording it and am only recording now so I can fast forward to see if they show clips from any other matches. I don't know anyone that wants to see the Williams sisters and I wish they would stop putting them on tv multiple times and putting them on the cover of the Miami Herald(not just the sports page). The only one to get a large picture on the sports page so far has been Agassi, and he wasn't put on the front page like the Williams sisters.

It's the propaganda machine. The sisters are on Oprah today promoting their latest book, see ;) And I suspect ESPN get loads of money promoting the book  PMac had mentioned it numerous time and they even showed the book during the match :p

If you're gonna show Clijsters, at least don't broadcast it during Rafa's time frame. We're already seething as it is. I thought they schedule everything around TV broadcasting, so why not put Rafa first and Clijsters second if ESPN is so keen on showing women's matches?

Lemme guess, NCAA women's basketball takes precedent?

Ferrer/Hrbaty= 0 ratings. ESPN isn't dumb, Just because they dont tailor matches to suit your needs doesn't mean that they're doing a bad job. I highly doubt it gets any better than venus vs Serena in the US, which is, after all, ESPN's audience. It was a pretty good match anyways.:p

Anyone with half a brain cell knows why ESPN does this, but that doesn't mean those who don't like seeing a boring, tape delayed match shown twice in a row have to praise ESPN for it. Most probably think it's futile, and perhaps it ultimately will be, but if ESPN hears even some negative news about their decisions it could possibly influence their decisions even if slightly.

I was happily surprised to see that as well. Loved that I got the chance to see Roger throw a raquet down and yell at himself. It is a rare site indeed.

It was funny though that at the end of the broadcast the still had the Nadal/Johansson outcome blank on the bracket. Why didn't they just fill it in?
