Butch Buchholz's plan

If it has already been posted, please delete.

Its an article from the most important Argentine Newspaper...

link (http://www.clarin.com/diario/2005/03/26/deportes/d-05904.htm)

If someone who speaks English better than me can translate it, thanks.

These are the main parts:

He has had the idea for a couple of years. And is prompting it again this year...

He wants to make three tournaments, slightly smaller than the GS but bigger than the TMS.

Those three tournaments would be: Miami, one in China and another in South America... (the first option is Buenos Aires).

He has already talked with the ATP and the WTA.

He is looking for a strong sponsor with an international image...

About the Tournament in Buenos Aires (which he says is the right place to do it), he wants to build a Stadium like the one in Miami in Nordelta (which is outside the city of Buenos AIres, in the North).

If this happens it would be a dream come true, at least for me...

What do you think?

I've read this last year, and apparently he wants to go on with the idea...Let's hope it's true.

I have heard his idea about a TMS in Buenos Aires many times... but not about where exactly would be held, and what other tournament he was planning to create...

and I never heard about making these three tournaments bigger that the TMS...

I think its a great idea... this would change the Tennis map radically.
There would be only missing a big tournament in Africa (South Africa maybe?)

The 4 biggest tournaments:

Wimbledon (Europe) - Roland Garros (Europe) - US Open (North America) - Australian Open (Australia)

Then these 3 tournaments:

Miami (North America) - Buenos Aires (South America) - Shanghai/Beijing/ or other (Asia)

And then the Masters Series:

Cincinnati - Toronto/Montreal - Indian Wells (North America)

Hamburg - Rome - Monte Carlo - Madrid - Paris (Europe)

Maybe they would have to get rid of a AMS... I am really not good with the tennis calendar.

More important than TMS?

No one wants to go to South America.

And Miami has the worst weather conditions to hold a tournament, a big reason why all the seeds are out.

No one wants to go to South America.

lets suppose its like that (I don't think so), I don't think it would matter...

I mean, the atp tournament of Buenos Aires is a small tournament (US $355,000) with a small Central Court (no more than 6000 seats) and still manages to attract almost 60.000 fans... the Central court is always full in the night sessions and in the final stances of the tournament.

There are a lot of true tennis fans in Argentina, plus a big tournament like the one Buchholz wants to create would attract many fans from other south american countries, like Chile or Brazil...

People wants to watch tennis... even without Coria, Nalbandian, Kuerten, Massu and Gonzalez lots of people went to the tournament this year... with Gaudio, Moya, Cañas and Nadal as the main attractions...

Imagine if Federer, Safin, Roddick, Henman, Haas... + fan favorites Coria and Nalbandian played the tournament... the amount of public would increase radically, specially with a stadium twice bigger than the Buenos Aires Lawn Tennis Club's Central Court.
