Sigh Marat, go get a fucking brain transplant. SOme of the women are better mentaly than you are.:tape: If Federer wins this event now, boresville. The bottom half of the draw is desimated now, some really retarded person is gonna make a TMS finals now.:haha:

he was so freaking streaky, holding at love twice and then losing serve.....i don't even know what happened that last set, i stopped watching while playing hot shots golf fore at 1-4. I guess its upto Nalbandian? :)

There are others. Besides, let's not try to crowbar Federer into a thread about Safin's defeat.

I was rooting for the Dominator today, maybe I shouldn't have since Safin had a golden chance to take the no. 3 spot away from Roddick, but his Houdini-like escapes in the early rounds of big tournaments are starting to annoy me - his only two ATP wins since the AO have come 7-5 and 7-6 in the third, saving matchpoints and being two points away from losing respectively, and I have to stick up for the fellow lefties whom he beat in those matches. Still, it was Hrbaty who almost choked away the first set, had he lost the tiebreak after letting a double break lead slip then we would probably be here talking about a 7-6, 6-1 victory for Safin. It isn't that big a surprise, he still hasn't beaten Hrbaty outdoors and had that AO QF not had the roof closed, the whole tournament might have had a very different result.

You can always count on Marat to fuck up when he's got a decent draw.

All praise to Dominik for driving Marat nuts and beating him again!

Naldo, the man with no respect for anyone outside his favourite band of brainless power-hitters. It's nice to know that Nalbandian and Ljubicic are "really retarded" players, although you could simply be toeing the tangerine line here.

Did anyone actually SEE this match live? What was the general standard? Was Marat poor, or did Dominik play amazing tennis - especially in the 2nd set?

There still is Nalby, Ljuby or Monfils :) ;) Not Forgeting Nadal or The Ageless One ;)

Well, a first set W-UE ratio of 8-23 for Hrbaty and 8-22 for Safin doesn't exactly suggest they were lighting up the court with the quality of their play - I imagine Safin fell away mentally in the second set.

Somehow it is Federer's fault when the number No 3 seed can't get through a "routine" third roud match to challenge him in the finals.

Only Federer can beat himself. There really is no one to challenge him, which is sad to see. Players that I think will be able to challenge him in the future when they get better as players are Monfils and Nadal. They both are very talented and Nadal did beat Federer last year in Miami by the way. Federer is really on his own for the time being. Lleyton just has not been able to find a way to beat him. Roddick really has no answers too. If Marat would play better and they could meet up again soon, then we would know if a rivalry is going to develop or not. It is hard to tell so far.

Miami is no fifth-slam with three of the top four out. The bottom half really is a joke now. Don't worry Marat, I'm sure you'll do well at Bercy again this year. That's the fifth slam.

It is for Safin, that's for sure... It's quite funny that after all the whining about boring and predictable Federer-Hewitt/Roddick finals, now the draw has opened up in the bottom half and people are complaining about that. This is a great opportunity for several players to climb the rankings, for us to see new and interesting match-ups that we haven't seen at this stage of a tournament before, and hopefully an unusual player making the final and shock horror, perhaps even winning it. I don't think it's a given that a) Federer will reach the final and b) that he'll win it, considering that in the bottom half there is his nemesis and two men who have pushed him all the way this year.

He beat the vaunted Bye. Quite impressive victories, but he seems to use up too much energy to beat them which is why he loses in the next round. Just look at that 6-1 in the second set against Hrbatey.

For a TMS final as big as this? Ljubicic would be a very odd finalist (yes he's playing great but Ljubicic a TMS finalist makes me laugh), Nalbandian isn't the player he once was in 2002/2003, he was better then. Moya, who chokes at almost every opportunity given to him? Ok I'd put him as a decent finalist. Meh maybe I could have done without the retarded and used something like "wierd" or "odd" but whatever, you can't deny that the bottom half of the draw is wide-fucking open and a bizzare finalist will arise from it. I agree though that from this, we'll get to see someone else on tv, I guess that's something good coming out of this.:p

Oh and Blaze, note that I never blamed Federer for Marat doing his usualy "I dont care, lets tank a match" style of play.:retard: On another note, Sjengster I think for people to stop whinning, Federer would have to NOT make the finals. Face it he's been in too many finals and it doesn't matter who he faces, many will find it boring. Though props to Federer for having such outstanding results/wins/game/etc. Obviously not his fans and people who enjoy watching him play will find it boring. To bring up the fact that people whinned about the obvious outcomes of the Fed vs Hewitt/Roddick matches are silly to whine about a new finals opponent I find is dumb because we all know that Federer will roll past anyone in the bottom half of the draw slight exception to Ljubicic, but something tells me Federer won't let this match go the distance as the previous 2 have gone). Anyways, the women's side looks to be getting really interesting, fun possible matches.:D

Hewitt didn't show up due to injury. Roddick showed up and was forced to retire by Verdasco. Safin was beaten by Hrbaty.

This makes it easier for Federer to win his first Lipton.

Hmm I like the draw and I hardly find it boring, actually on contrary...I do hope Rafa will take out Ljubo, and Ferrero and Nadal will make the semis - that would be worth watching...and then maybe JC again give some troubles to Roger ....or maybe Radek

I think you guys are getting to ahead of yourselves. It's not a certain thing that Federer will make the final. Now that Roddick, Safin and Nalbandian are gone, his half of the draw looks much more promising and dangerous. There are Agassi, Henman and Coria. And Federer is most likely to fall in front of a not-so top player like the ones he'll probably face during the tournament until the semifinal than to Roddick or Hewitt these days.

I do hope he wins Miami, though. He hasn't won it yet and got to the final once. Good luck, Ninja!

Given the factors of heat, wind and humidity, anybody can beat him if he's slightly off, but not likely in final though.

Yay Dominik
Good win, especially for a TMS event. Wish you didnt have to almost choke away the first set though :p

I see that it isnt enough that most of the MTF threads are already about Federer, even a thread about a Safin-Hrbaty match has to be turned into one about Fed. Dont forget that Hrbaty is still alive on the bottom half and leads the H2H vs Fed.

Safin often seems to put a hat on backwards whenever he wants to make sure the American crowd knows that he's tanking. Still, as he said in the press conference, the tournaments will come (i.e. he'll win some more this year, presumably), but his fans will just have to be patient. As for players who'll have a chance to trouble Federer, Ancic, Haas(!), Mayer, Gonzalez, Ferrero, Novak, Ljubicic and Nadal are my candidates. Should they come up against him, they'll be able to win some service games. Of that I'm confident.

This is who Marat is. This is who he will continue to be for the rest of his tennis career.

But no matter how many times I tell myself that I can never get over how he tanks so many matches.

You just gotta keep hoping that he'll find is brain, and his game.
