So if 2002 was the "year of mr nobody", what does 2003 have in store?

I believe it was The Boiled Egg who coined 2002 as "the year of Mr Nobody". It may also be known as the year of "WTF?!", the year of "did that REALLY happen, or are you just making that up?", etc etc...

Anyhow, so any thoughts on what 2003 may hold? :o

I was thinking something along the lines of "the year of Mr FINALLY" :D

That is:

-Hewitt finally does well in Australia, maybe wins it.
-Ferrero or Corretja finally wins Roland Garros.
-Safin finally stops being a one slam wonder, and takes over number 1 again.
-Henman finally wins Wimbledon? ;) Okay so maybe Rafter comes back and finally wins it, or Mark P finally holds up long enough...
-Haas finally finds it in himself to win a slam (I left the US Open for him)
-Pete and Andre finally retire? ;) (jk)

Anyone else have ideas? :D

- The year of "No Americans in the top 10"

- The first time in many years (or perhaps ever??) that an Asian player reaches the top 10 (Srichapan, of course)

I don't think this was the year of nobodies. only Johanssen and Costa came out of "nowhere" all the other slams and masters tournaments were won by top 15 players.

Next year Richard and Mario will screw up everyone's best laid plans. :)

Roddick will soar through the rankings and win some titles and probably 1 slam too:)

1. You can hope for some great results for Ferrero but.. even at RG, he will be an underdog against healthy Guga or motivated Safin.

2. The biggest puzzle is Wimbledon, Hewitt won it this year mostly by default ( look at his path to the titile )..

3. Australian Open will be won by a European player

4. Safin will win at least 2 Slams

5. Goran will find out that hi serve is much less effective with new bigger balls.

6. We will hear some new names..

7. Sampras won't win Roland Garros.

ys, you also laughed at me last year when I said that Ferrero would make the year end top 5 for this year.

I hope your chronic habbit of underestimating him continues

Don't worry you are in good company, the entire US media agrees with you ;)

You are keen on the "Mr Nobody" theme?

I was too for the most part - as long as Ferrero doesn't make the finals of a slam again, only to lose to Franco Squillari, I will be a happy camper ;)

it's much more exciting - who would ever predict Johansson to win in Melbourne, David making finals in Wimbledon or Pete winning at US Open (not like he's nobody but looking at his record during the year...)

Yes, I agree it's exciting - to an extent. But seeing the so called top players consistently fail on the big stage gets a little dissapointing after a while (yes Safin, Federer, Haas, Ferrero, that means you! *points finger*)

yeh this year was pretty bad...... RG final was boring with ferrero choking to costa of all people.

Well Moya will continue his comeback and win RG

Mark P will play Davis Cup and will go through year fit and maybe win wimbledon

Hewitt will win Us Open but will lose number 1 to Safin who will win Aussie Open

Safin will win 7 tournaments again like he did in 2000

well thats what i hope happens

So my call that this would be the year of "Mr Finally" was pretty good ;)

Ferrero, Fed, Roddick, all *finally* won slams (though Roddick is ahead of schedule compared to the other two, we've been hearing about him forever it seems :p), Mark almost *finally* did it at Wimbledon, Henman *finally* won a MS, etc. etc.

My individual suggestions sucked, but overall it was a great call.

it will be a good idea to make the thread not until the TM Cup is over or after Davis Cup Final.

Ah yes... I'd like to see Marat and Haas, among others, come back and make some sort of impact. Great title :)

I wouldn't count on that happening.

Why not? 2003 has already been a year of "name" players winning the Slams - AO-Agassi, FO-Ferrero, Wimbledon-Federer, USO-Roddick. Looking at these names, it it the top players who kicked in and played consistently throughout the year and the ones that are in the top 8 at the year end Masters Cup.

Why should 2004 be any different? True, it may not be the exact same 4 as there are several other "name" players moving up like Coria and Nalbandian that I think will continue to make their presence felt and maybe pull off a Slam win.

And Congrats for Naldo and Hurley predicting correctly 3 of the 4 slams winner. There is a bit of a discussion about Andy winning the U.S. Open it's funny.

It couldn't possibley be more amusing than the people who actually thought that Ferrero was going to lose to Verkerk in the finals of RG... :)

Federer to dominate

Roddick will continue to dominate Ferrero

So Roddick is dominating Ferrero at 1-0 in their H2H? Sure, of course Roddick has the advantage on a fast outdoor DecoTurf court in front of a home crowd. Let's put them on clay together and see what happens. :D
