Mayer is currently in horrible form
But even he could find some time the way out of his slump, I wish him that, but I hope it's not against Kiwi...

And look who could be again waiting in the QF... Coria... that's not good for Kiwi, same shit like last year.

But first, he has to battle through Gonzalez who can be very tough if he's on fire.

I'm more concerned with Gonzalez than Coria. I saw too many times last summer that Nicolas would try and match power of Andy (who reminds of Fernando on his groundstrokes) and try and have a slug fest on the baseline. When Nicolas does that he tends to hit many errors and go for winners when he shouldn't. He needs to be patient and let Fernando make the errors.

Coria will be tough but his serve isn't what it used to be since his shoulder surgery and Nicolas has been returning really well lately (at least according to IW stats) :) But he needs to beat Mayer first :D

Not a bad draw for Kiwi ;)

Hope he will go further in the draw again this week in Miami

Good luck, Nico

I think the chance is bigger that he has to play the qualifier. Mayer had no chance against Phau last week and guys like Phau are there in the qualifying.

No, this pic is really new for me. It looks good, thanks for that! :yeah:
Maybe this pic shows an early Walt Landers practice method ;)

I'm steering clear of scoring threads so hopefully I won't be alone in this thread tomorrow :D.

I have last minute assignments due tomorrow but I will put it a side for Kiwi's match :).

Go Kiwi!! :bounce:

don't worry, enough annoying gamblers will be there, you will never be alone ;)

Logged on just in time :)

Neely, I meant alone in this thread. The gamblers is why I am no longer visiting the scoring threads. It's gotten to the point of ridiculous  . The only safe places are the specific threads.

1 ALL, 1st set

He was down 0-40. Saved all 3 BPs. But was still broken...2-3

3-5, 0-15

Looks like his serve % isn't great and he's not winning much points off it when it goes in either. If it's windy out there it's probably not me. I'm sure there are people who know more than me in the scoring thread but I'm not going to sift through all the crap to find out.

C'mon Kiwi!!! 4-5. Needs to break back!!!

Lost 1st set, 4-6.

Would be nice to have some company in here :)

Now it 0-2, 0-30 in the 2nd set

Not feeling very positive at the moment.

bad surprise, Mayer breaks out of his slump against Kiwi!

It looks like it was just a bad match

4-6 2-6

Well, he switched weeks of when he played a good MS so he shouldn't lose too many ranking spots. The points will balance out.

okay, the week is already over, and the next one, too! :sobbing:

It will be a very long time now until Monte Carlo!
Tooooooooo long

Kiwi is just too inconsistant these times

exactly, concerning the Masters results they will balance out! However, he has lost the points because of not getting equal results for defending his Scottsdale and Memphis points earlier in the season

Ouch...so he actually could have used the extra points. He's moving on to clay which has not always been good to him.

Personally, I'm loving it because clay is my favorite surface :D. Hopefully Kiwi will improve this year.

Exactly, not that Mayer is a bad player, he is not, he is quite the very opposite when his game is on and if that result happened last season during May to August, I wouldn't have been that much surprised.

The surprising thing here is not so much that Mayer won, but that he came out of NOWHERE based on his current results when he could do nothing at all for a long time. He was really horrible the weeks before (also due to some injury problems he brought into the new season) and hardly could get any win!

whatever, bad day for Kiefer, superb play by Mayer...

I hope so, I guess he will never be a real force on clay, he never was in his whole career so far, but he really doesn't have to lose anything on clay. He got only a few wins in 2004.

But still, IMO he has underachieved last season on clay. He faced very difficult opponents (Youzhny, Coria, Volandri, Federer) and I think he is a much better play on clay than his record is representing. He just doesn't have to face a total claycourt specialist every time and I think a 4th round in a clay Masters would be well within his reach.

Well, Kiwi did it last year when he made the Finals of Memphis & Scottsdale. Some people were wondering where his form came from

That's the problem. He really has a tournament schedule like a top ten player and doesn't see that he has to play more tournaments.

Tricky_Forehand
03-26-2005, 09:33 PM
I don't think he can handle more tournaments on a mental level. He'll burn out. Besides, I'm sure he expected to do better in Miami and then he would've only had one week off and not two.

JMG
03-26-2005, 09:45 PM
If he loses on the Monday in Monte Carlo, he will have another 3 weeks off. I already see that coming. :(

 Bad loss for Kiwi. I wonder if Mayer just outplayed him or if Nicolas was not having a good day. I'm glad I didn't go to Miami this year like I usually do to see this. I would have been disappointed. I hope he plays well in Cincy so I can see him play well there :D

Well if he gets any points during the clay season it will be a bonus since last year he didn't do so well. I was hoping for a good Miami result so he might possibly be seeded in these master clay events but I doubt that will happen now

Losing to Mayer... :haha: :haha:

Neely, wieso verliert Kiefer denn gegen den Geier? Nicht Jutta Adler.... ;)

Apparently Kiwi didnt even try at the match. He was just kinda there... And Mayer was playing well, but if Kiwi had been playing his own game he should have easily beat Mayer. I don't even know what to say anymore... I'm at a loss for words. Not just about this loss, but just at his mental state. He just seems to give up before the matches have even begun....

Unfortunately, that's not new news about Kiwi. His willingness to fight has been the new concept. I still never became used to the consistently fighting Kiwi...I guess that's why I'm rarely surprised on his "off" days

Wieso verliert man überhaupt?
Wieso gewinnt er nicht einfach alles?
