I find it interesting in all the interviews he's been doing lately, he hasn't been citing fatigue like he did last year. I remember in a lot of events last year, he would mention he was very tired or exhausted when he went deep into a tournament. He's also on pace to play more matches this year than last year (80). 27 (not even including the exhibition tournament).

It was a nagging injury to the foot that he sustained in his last match. Fitness was not the issue

Yes I think fitness had a lot to do with his defeat.
