Agassi in 3. If Andre plays properly, he plays a much better game than Lleyton does so his gameplay should bring him to a win. However, if Andre plays like a dick vs the top guys like he's been doing for a while now, Hewitt will win.:o

These are two very evenly matched players. For a while Agassi couldn't seem to beat Hewitt. In the last two meetings, that has been reversed, but they have been close matches.

Hewitt needs to serve well. In his last two losses, he did not serve up to his capabilities. This could be a deciding factor in the match.

Go Andre! :bounce:

Yea, the backhand to backhand matchup...goes to Andre. I don't expect to see Andre running Hewitt around too much, he's just going to pound that Hewitt backhand into errors. Then Hewitt will try to take it up the line and avoid the backhand rally and this will either A) lead to Andre winnering Hewitt B) Hewitt making an error.

Andre is in great form and probably playing the best tennis I have seen him play since early 2003. I predict a straight set crushing of Hewitt and a major confidence boost to Agassi. If he keeps this form, he has a shot at beating Federer.

All false. Hewitt will beat Agassi in the backhand rally, so Agassi needs to move Hewitt around to win ... which he can do, so there's still hope for him. This match will probably be decided by the serve (like someone mentioned earlier in the thread). If Agassi keeps the pressure on then Hewitt's serve will collapse sooner or later. On the other hand if Agassi doesn't serve well himself he will get himself into too many 50-50 rallies which of course isn't good on your own serve.

And about your last remark, that's just plain stupid. Haven't you seen Agassi's last encounter with Federer. A TOTAL demolishing of Agassi, he was all over the court. Agassi's game just isn't good enough to beat the Federer of the last two years, cause he's always hitting the same shots which are too predictable for Federer. Agassi just can't hit enough winners and eventually Roger will start hitting his and then it's game over.

I think I found a new way to spell biased...Cervantes

Well, I would advise you to checkout the Cinncy match which Andre won against Hewitt. You will see the backhand rallies I am talking about. Andre flat out, hands down, no question has a superior backhand. It's only of the best ever.

Llyeton is consistant but he gets beat in the backhand rallies. As I desribed Andre just pounds Hewitt into a corner and then Hewitt either errors or Andre goes dnl for a winner. Hewitt eventually gets sick of that and he pulls the trigger too early.

The last time Fed and Andre played; Andre played twice in one day and that's too much for him. The time before that Andre wasn't playing his best tennis and he went for winners too early in the rallies.

Yea, you're right Agassi definitly isn't good enough to beat the Federer of the last two years. Even though Andre beat Fed in Kooyong 04' and took him to five sets at the USO in a match that could have gone either way. Oh yea, not to mention the last time Andre and Federer played here at (IW 04') in that tight three setter, when Andre was a break point and service hold away from winning the match. :o

To tell the truth Andre hasn't really played great tennis in awhile. If he continues to play the way he is now then he can easily takout Hewitt and pose a challenge for Federer if they do meet. :D

03-18-2005, 07:02 PM
I think that in his current shape Agassi could win the match, but it will be very difficult. I think Agassi will have to move Hewitt around very much and try to target Lleyton's backhand. I don't think that Lleyton will be able to win the backhand encounter. Both players have pretty good forehands and it will be good to see how they go about the match. I think it will all come down to who serves better. I think Andre takes the cake in that department, he is just much more consistent and in my opinion much more variety. But whatever happens I hope it will be a good match, sometimes these matches can just be very disappointing. But good luck to them both!! ;)

TennisLurker

I think vintage Andre can beat Fed on hardcourts, but now he is 35 and inconsistent, and very often bad andre shows up, the same happens to other older players like conchita, she was playing great last year making semifinals, final of a tier 1, then she sucked for months, won only one game against davenport, and after that she has been playing great again (and we are not even in the clay season)

Like once they are so old they can only play good tennis sporadically, for a few weeks.

Both players have pretty good forehands and it will be good to see how they go about the match.I'd be curious to see some statistics on where Lleyton's UEs actually come from. If my memory serves me correct, Hewitt's forehand will actually break down before his backhand. His BH, while not overly powerful, is consistent and two of his biggest "shots"...down-the-line and lob...come best off of that side. True, he might make more errors on the backhand side...but that's because I think he sometimes tries to go for too much. An error, nonetheless, but if the forehand goes...he'll have a very, very difficult battle. With no real weapon to speak off (other than his fitness), Hewitt will need all cylinders working tonight to prevail.

Are you implying he can beat Roddick? I am surprised you think so (not just because Andy is your favorite player). While he would get the better of Roddick in baseline rallys, seeing as how Agassi struggled against the high-kicking second serves of Ljubicic recently - Roddick has a great kick serve and a nuclear 1st serve - his run will likely end in the semifinal.

Watch the 04' cincy semifinals. Yea the serve is an issue for Andre but, once the ball gets into play he can take advantage of Andy. It would be close if the two played but Andre is clearly playing better tennis than Andy is. If Andy and Andre meet up it'll be a real tight match for sure. :D
