When does the draw come out?

Probably this weekend. I am not optimistic about Miami, Jazz, to be honest with you-no matter what his draw looks like.

I don't want to cheer for him...I "hate" him right now.

And I'm not optimistic at all - not just for Miami ...this looks bad.

I'd love to read a post match interview to see what the hell was in his head this afternoon...

I feel exactly the same at the moment. And sorry, Jazz, but who cares about the draw when he can't even beat Kiefer? He had an 'easy' draw in IW and look the result

Well "hate" is a strong word...and Kiefer is a very talented player who just took more of the chances last night......David needs to knuckle down and think about what he really wants because he doesn't look happy out there and well if you are not happy doing something, then don't do it. We all know he has the talent to be one of the best in the world, lets face it you don't get to where he is without it, so I think he needs help and thats the job of all those people surrounding him. However, would any of you guys like to be the one to tell him what to do, I don't think so!!!

No, i think in such situations nobody can help you. He is the only one that has to deal with it and go through lots of thinking and decisons. If he can't do it i'm afraid nobody can.

I don't think he should play there in my opinion. There are too many distractions, and his fragile mind will not be able to handle it. Rest, David. Don't play anymore until you feel like it.

but well I think that he is the only one at this point what can decide what is best and waht he wants to do.

For some persons having 2 weeks off help you a lot for others it doesn't help. To do your normal things( in his case, playing tennis matches) will help you to become stronger and to get the focus back. Because a good match, like he had against Monaco and the DC can help you a lot, that there is still something to work for and can give you some joy back into your live. You are searching for a lot of things, what way is the best to follow.Sometimes very tiny changes can help a lot to become better and to become stronger/more focussed. Some find that in taking time off others find that to do it in their normal lives and just keep trying and fighting...

So true, jud. What we exactly expect from him? If you expect him only to be happy everyday, then ok, he can skip any tourney he doesn't like to play, skip the windy match, skip the strong-light match..blabla...just like many over 100 ranking players. But if you expect him to reach the real success of his career, David, get rid of that childish attitude.

You can't stop playing everytime you got a depressing loss. If you did it one or two times, it can be considered as adjusting mood. But if you did almost everytime, I will call it "escaping attitude". Yes, no denying he is a talented player, but face to the fact, his huge up-and-down state decides his level can't be much higher than a hot-form kiefer or Dent or some out of 20+ ranking guy. He could lose any match when facing any one of them.

Maybe my words are over-heavy, but just as bov's saying, thinking your loss over, trying more, improving the weakness of your tennis, believing any winning over a small player can increase your confidence, and accumulate it until you really beat a big one who you think he is worth of beating. But if you stop playing, then you stop the chance of trying to win by yourself.

Yeah, I agree with you, Jazz and Nova, I think we've talked his IW loss over by now. We are all aware of the hard time David is going through, and whatever the reasons may be, there's not much we can do for him, except going on cheering for him and hoping he'll find a way...and being conscious that it may take a longer while than we expected. But as some of you said, David can give us so much joy that he deserves our support and understanding, and if he never becomes a world's number one...who cares ??

I know Tiff, but I didn't mean that I wanted him to become world's number one now. I know very well that it's too much to ask right now. But I do think that he has everything to become n°1 and to win a Grand Slam. I will be disappointed when he wil not achieve this before the end of his carreer.

Ti-Anne
03-18-2005, 06:09 PM
yeah, I didn't mean that he wasn't able to become a world's number one, on the contrary, I think he's got all it takes, but then again, even if he never becomes one, that won't change a bit what I think of him. What is sure is that right now, he's got too much stuff to sort out in his head to even think of such an opportunity. But you know, sometimes, those things just improve by themselves, so we just have to give him time and, once more, all our support.

what???, this has turned into the biggest deal, but it's really...not ...he just lose one match against a player that was on fire, it doesn't mean he has to stop. it was just a bad day, everybody have them (not federer of course), but what is this all ''come back when he's able'' thing, that's a little bit too much for me....so...just leave it, this was supposed to be a ''cheering for miami'' thread, not ''ask him to dissapear in a hole''....

Soda, it's clear that David is not up to the task. I'd personally rather see him rest and sort his issues out than see him languish on a tennis court and lose every opening round match he plays. If he continues down this path, his ranking will take a plunge. He can only go so far on his current results-and with no tournament wins in, gosh, how long....it won't be long before other players who have nothing to lose and lots to gain to catch him.

Hate Is a very strong word , indeed Sophia . ;)

But that's how I was feeling at the time...but of course I don't hate him, I think everybody here knows that ...I was mad and I apolozige if It was too strong.

I just want him to get his shit together...and do what his heart tells him to do right now. Playing Miami or not...in the end only he can take that decison.

That's how I see it.

Me, because he has the skills for it.
me too, Connie ;). maybe i am the one who cares his ranking most
He is the player who uses his brain to play tennis. In spite of that shitty serving, his skills are complete. Aggressive forehand, accurate backhand, sharp returning, good sense at net, and he can combine these into very good attacking-defending strategy :yeah:

BUT, his weakness is too fatal. If he can't improve his serving to a stable level, it's impossible for him to be the NO.1, even not sure to get any title. I believe this is partly related to his lately mentality, coz i watched his match video of his several 2003 matches and 2004 AO (those matches are before his chaining injuries last year), his serving was much better than now.

This morning, i rushed over GM for some information of his match against Kiefer since i didn't watch that match, even not followed the score, they focused on his shitty serving again, and Federer Express (?) even said any club players could smack it back. Can you imagine any NO.1 candidate with such a serving? i know most of us dislike powerful big servers, but facing the fact is, if you are ready to be the NO.1 or get big title, good serving is the must equipment. of course, you can ignore that if you have very very good luck, but we all know david's luck is one of the most worst ;)

I believe, david and his team know all the above, so, what we can do is only give them trust :) Think to the positive direction, it's very very difficult for a player with such shitty serving to fight into top10, which is already a great achievement :woohoo: and that means he still has very big space to improve :bounce:

yeah, I didn't mean that he wasn't able to become a world's number one, on the contrary, I think he's got all it takes, but then again, even if he never becomes one, that won't change a bit what I think of him. then how long do you suggest him to rest this time? ;)
When he lost his Marseille and Rotterdam, he did rest for over a week. After playing awesome DC, he comes back to IW with a stunning start, then lost again. You think he should take a rest, just because you think he didn't win the match which he should win. If he beated Kiefer, and lost to Roger in QF by 1-6 3-6, would you still suggest him to take a rest?

Besides, if he rests, his ranking still will take a plunge. He can earn the points from Miami which he didn't play last year. We know David has a lot points to defend in clay season. If he can get some from these two TMS, will be less pressure for him in later months.

sigmagirl91
03-19-2005, 02:23 AM
He didn't gain much from IW-and he didn't play that last year either. The draw at Nasdaq isn't a given either. The way his form is going, he could lose to player X in the second round. That would definitely put pressure on him to defend his results from the clay court season.

Remember his AO match against Ferrer? he played more than a pile of shit. But the following match beating Coria is one of his best matches. ;) you know he is the one who always gives you unexpectation. And even if he beated Kiefer, do you think he will win the match against Roger?

The good thing is, Indian Wells and Miami are back to back. Now those hot ones Roger, Duck and Potato are still live and have to fight for IW. David can prepare for Miami much earlier than them. Just trust he is a smart guy, and can deal with this loss. If following is a small tourney, skipping maybe ok. But TMS, no. Tiff, give him trust, and hope Miami can offer a good draw for him.

The other reason i think he should try in Miami is, the Miami court is more proper than IW for the current David. :D Court speed is somewhat like AO, bounce higher to fit David's hitting rhythm. Shitty serving will affect less, and his good returning can have more chance! :bounce:

cheer for Miami!!

I believe he can do it. I really do. There are two things that I don't believe: that Andy will defend or that Coria will make it out of the fourth round. Now, you can take it for what it's worth. If Coria falls early, his place in the top 10 is in serious jeopardy.

That's what I say. I hope he can prove the naysayers wrong someday by winning the big one. He certainly can do it, but he must work on that serve. That's the most troublesome part of his game and, unfortunately, the serve for most players is the cornerstone of their game. If David's gonna be competitive in big matches, he must get the serve going.

Jurgen isn't in good form right now. I watched his matches in IW, seems his mood is even worse than David. Jurgen could be very dangerous when he is on fire, but i believe David can beat him whatever.

I totally agree with you Tiff. But in my opinion it's not typically american. We (=the rest of the world) accuse the americans being money hungry and call it a bloody shame that Bush didn't sign the Kyoto protocol, but look at the European Union... That's really not much better. We don't care about the environment, jobless or homeless people etc. But let's not begin a political debate here....

Like you both said there's no need to begin a political debate - after all this not the say what you want thread. :o

But Connie just mentioned the European Union..and I have to say that I don't believe in such thing. European Union has no credit at all for me.

The only way I can follow it is if I go to bed for a few hours this evening and then get up again. Hi Dani and welcome :wavey: I've just been trawling through the tournament thread trying to find news about Malisse - but none so far. But they're all saying a default means he did something pretty serious to get kicked out the match - so maybe he did punch Ferrer

Jud said she wouldn't be able to join us tonight - it's already nearly midnight with her because her time is an hour ahead of mine. And Tiff said she was going out with the girls tonight so guess she is enjoying herself somewhere.

Hey guys this made me laugh. I haven't found anything out about Malisse yet but this is what they're saying about Roddick's wrist injury over on the tourney thread:-

"It was unclear when the injury occurred, but it may have been when Roddick lost his temper after double-faulting on the final point of the first set. He angrily launched a ball into the second deck of the stadium, then broke his racket by slamming it to the hardcourt. "

:haha: :haha:

Does anyone watch the live coverarge? Why the tournament that calls itself a fifth grand slam has a scoreboard like this. IW is much better.
David is leading 5-1. Please keep going on, David.
I don't like Ferrer. He always gives David a big trouble.
I hope to see David VS JC.
