He might really be building on the form he showed against Roger in Dubai!
Juan, when fit, is one hell of a player, and kicking Andreev's ass like this isn't quite a walk in the park!

Something tells me JC will go on a tear during the clay season.

the stats looked pretty good from jcf....no break points faced, won a very high % of points on his 1st serve. returned well. i can see him beating moya

It's interesting that this is Ferrero's worst TMS event by far - 1 win, 4 losses, that solitary win coming against Sargsian in a tough three-setter (and in the round after that he was kind enough to follow Warhol's maxim and grant 15 minutes of fame to the American tennis legend that is Brian Vahaly). I'm not sure how Moya will play after his pretty poor claycourt season, so this match is hard to predict. Hopefully, if they're both below their best, the result will be the same as it usually is when they're both close to their best.

Ferrero will win in straight sets, I'm going to put most of my vCash on that.

I'm still unconvinced that Ferrero is feeling the groove again.

I need to see one of his matches on ESPN for me to judge accurately.

But still, go JC :)

from IW website...
Ferrero Breezes into Second Round

Juan Carlos Ferrero continues to wipe out the disappointing memories of 2004 when illness and injury sidelined him so often. The Spaniard, who is unseeded at the Pacific Life Open, cruised past Russian Igor Andreev 6-3, 6-3 and will now come up against friend and Davis Cup team-mate Carlos Moya, the seventh seed, in the second round.
i like the "continues" bit :)

It is if Igor isn't hitting too many forehands in that day. Or if he's hitting a lot of backhands period. :p

If somebody already mentioned this, ignore. I didn't read the whole thread.

Andreev's confidence is pretty low at the moment - I don't think he's won back to back matches this year, and I saw him play against Henman in Dubai and completely fold in the second set after a very tight and competitive opening set which he lost on the tiebreak. But 3 and 3 is still an impressive scoreline regardless. Wouldn't it be ironic if Ferrero's comeback came at IW, of all places?

"I hope Ferrero wins."

If you like. ;) And not entirely for Ferrero's sake either, in ranking terms it would be useful if Careless Moya didn't gain any new points here after that first-round exit last year. :p

For some reason I don't htink he's ever been past the third round here.

Yes, I mentioned earlier in the thread that he gave the great Brian Vahaly his 15 minutes of fame a couple of years ago. Nice to see Brian back in the main draw, eh?

Damn Brian. He beat Gonzo, Ferrero and Robredo that tournament :fiery: Oh, and then I had to read from certain posters around here how this was "just beginning". The beginning of what exactly I'm not sure, but I don't imagine this is how they envisioned it.

Just thought your sentence was a bit "all around the houses", that's all. I felt it warranted a translation! :p [...and I was sure it didn't mean "I hope Moya wins." ;)]

Sjengster

Ha ha! Now I come to think of it, weren't all those three players victims of the food poisoning outbreak that swept through IW that year, partly causing (I'm sure the Safin fans hope and pray) his 0 and 1 demolition by Bubba Ginepri in the third round? I know Robredo certainly was, though he got his revenge at Wimbledon later in the year. Vahaly eventually lost to fellow grinder Vince in the quarters in a match of exhausting cross-court backhand rallies, after which the Sky presenter made the dry comment, "I thought cloning was banned on the ATP Tour."

It was all around the houses, up the high street and into the town centre, but you got the gist of it eventually. :p

Heh.

I saw Vahaly lose in qualies at the USO last year. I think he was playing... Ivo H? I'm not sure though. I can't imagine that I would have shown up just for Vahaly though. He's short.

That's pretty damn good... I think Andreev has put two wins together this year, in Sydney maybe? I'm not entirely sure, but I just remember watching him and thinking he was in pretty good form? Anyhoo, I don't particularly like him, so top stuff JC.
