Who will reach 1000 first?

11-26-2002, 09:06 PM
Which active player will be first to play 1000 pro matches?

11-26-2002, 09:14 PM
As long as Agassihole continues to feel inadequate compared to Sampras, I think he will continue to play. 40 more matches is just another year for him anyway, so . . .

I think Pete & Kafel will retire soon, and Chang is definitely retiring this year (last I heard). I don't think Goran will play 85 more matches before Agassi plays 40.

Agassi will play 40 next year alone if he doesn't retire.

Pete should go out a winner IMO, and won't make it because he'll retire.

Same with Kafel (though he'll hopefully go out a winner by winning the Davis Cup. Otherwise, anything is possible).

Agassi :)

11-27-2002, 02:00 AM
I think Agassi will.

11-27-2002, 03:24 AM
Pete. He just needs to retire period :p

If Russia wins DC Finals, Zhenya might retire so I'm checking him off. Pete (although he is only 20 matches short)I think, will be retiring very soon. So I would have to say it's Andre.

:) Agassi :)

Pete should be the one, but Andre probably will

Definitely Agassi.

I think Pete should play at least 20 matches next year, but if not then Agassi.

Pete I guess

Andre is 19 matches short.. Sampras is still 16 matches short. Chang - 37. Goran - 85. Kafelnikov - 130..

The race is on between Pete and Andre. From now on they play pretty much similar schedule, and by French Open time we will likely have the winner. Odds are it will be Andre.. But you never know..

this guy...http://www.greetingsdepot.com/cards/card1226.jpg

and that's absolutely fine with me...

having beaten Andre at the USO last year -- the sweetest victory he could have asked for outside of winning yet another Wimby -- i don't think the 'Droid really wants to ever touch a racket again.

02-19-2003, 12:10 AM
Pete will probably reach 1000, but Agassi may be the first.

02-19-2003, 12:22 AM
Agassi. It seems that he is more willing to play lesser tournaments than Sampras.

02-19-2003, 12:49 AM
what lesser tournies is Andre playing??

and do you want me to remind you of the string of basement tournies that the 'Droid desperately chased down all over Europe just so that he could get the points to end as #1 for the 6th year in a row? puh-lease...

02-19-2003, 03:30 PM
I'd say Pete.......definately.

02-19-2003, 10:51 PM
Agassi because Pete hasn't played for a while. Even if he starts playing again today, it will take him a while to hit himself into some form

02-19-2003, 10:58 PM
I wish it would be Pete just because I have a crush on him

02-20-2003, 01:03 AM
Just check both their stats, Pete's record is 762-222 and Andre's 750-231 so the number of matches are actually very close now. So with Pete not playing at the moment, Agassi is more likely to get to 1000 first. It would also be interesting to see who will win the winning percentage department.

02-20-2003, 02:44 AM
Both of them are committed to Scottsdale, IW, Miami.. If Pete makes two finals and one semifinal in those tournaments (he-he, wouldn't bet my house on that..) , he'll get to 1000..

I think Andre will reach 1000 matches played first. AND will end up having a higher winning percentage by the time both players retire. Just basing on current form of Andre and assumed frequencey of play and form from Pete I guess.

I wasn't dissing your fave! Sorry if it came off that way. To answer the first question I think San Jose is an International Gold Series tournament which is lower the TMS.

As to your other point I agree Sampras ran around like mad during 6 years to get that #1 rank and now he's not willling to do that anymore but Andre seems willing to do that now (well to the extent that his 33 yr-old body can take it) Hence my conclusion that Andre will reach 1000 first.

02-21-2003, 01:30 PM
I think (and hope) that Agassi will get to 1000 first...even if Sampras has a good result at one tournament, he will probably withdraw from the next.

02-21-2003, 01:36 PM
San Jose is International Series, which is below International Series Gold which is below the Masters Series events.
