It's not redemption until the beats the Russians in the next round.

Good win anyway Mathieu.

It is redemption enough for the choke in the third set.

Well his biggest failure was the final. I wonder if it's 2-2 and he plays Youzhny does his mind think about what happened in France the last time they played.

wonder what court we're gonna put down for France.

either Taraflex or clay
both good for us.

Would you say he's the Mauresmo/Clijsters of men's tennis?

I think they should lay down the clay.

TBE, at least the Swedes won in Madrid.

won what ?? not more golds than us
but i was cheering for the Kallur twins  and they got a 1/2 ;)

been a pretty good 3 days in Madrid.
that Stefan Holm is a freak  , must be the only 1m60 (j/k) high jumper to clear 2m40 :o )

Yes, the midget did very well in Madrid, though he is not Sjöberg. Russians are always good at athletics.

Btw, I think they should lay down clay for the Frenchies? What's your take on it?

i'd go with clay for simple reason that Mathieu is the only person from France who can play on it and he is a choker. Rest are pretty ordinary on clay and also chokers.

Against our classic 4 nutters, it evens things out.

Clay indoors... Ehhhh.... :p

Come on who wants stable Russian players? That would be boring and it's bad when Kolya is considered the most stable out of Misha, Oaf and Andreev.

I think it has to be on clay as they can all play on the surface and why doesn't Chesnokov become captain.

Paulo has chased his demons, whether you want it or not. He has shown he was a great DC player. He has dominated PimPim as outrageously in his first match as he has done with Tomas today...during the 2 first sets. Tomas seemed to be without solution at first. And congratulations to him to have kept the faith because saving 2 match points at 5/4 in the 3rd set, on Paul's serve was really courageous, mostly the way he did it.

The appointment is settled now in July. With the Russians. We'll see.

it was an incredible match. he almost choked again though.

2 sets to 0 up, 5-4 in the third serving for the tie...misses 2 match points and gets broken. then loses 3rd on a tie break and trails 4-2 in the 4th. i thought here we go again. but he did incredibly well to bring it back. i thought for most of the match he played incredibly well, he really is very talented and if he could sort out his mental state he could definitely be a top 10 player on clay. this win might give him some major confidence

for that to happen the Putin would have to remove Tarpischev, he seems to think its a lifetime honour to lead both Fed and Davis Cup teams :o ever since Yeltsin appointed him over 10 yrs ago.
and look what he has done to www.rustennis.com (http://www.rustennis.com) (just check where it leads to :rolls: )

I have noticed the Tarp has been around for ages and maybe he'll be like Brezhnev or Andropov and die in the job.

What propaganda he is Russian tennis in his own eyes. That is shocking.

Forget the cap and look at this pic: does Paulo look like Pete Sampras ?
(it's always been my opinion)

not at all ;)

btw he will remain the last player to beat pete the great :yeah:

I don't think he looks like Sampras. In some pictures Mattieu is very good looking to me, and in others he looks like a mule. There is just no inbetween  He doesn't look bad there, weird happy face aside.

Eyes, nose, smiling...awww I insist, they look like each other :(
And it's not an insult ! (my Pete  )

why did the french team wear argentina's colors? :tape:

I suppose it might be because the tie was played in Strasbourg (home town of PHM), and light blue is the color of the Strasbourg football club ?
