Remember his name because Boggy is chasing fame

He is a raw, left-handed teenager with a lethal one-handed backhand whom the British know little about and the Australians nothing.
But the lanky Alex Bogdanovic has been thrust into Britain's Davis Cup limelight, and of the sacrificial squad of no-names is the one most likely to pose a few problems for Australia's gun team. That is if he can overcome his hero worship of Australian star Lleyton Hewitt.
Hewitt is Bogdanovic's favourite player because "of his attitude on court" .
Sounding a touch precocious, like his idol, Bogdanovic has said he plays tennis because he wants to be the best in the world and to become famous.
At just 18 he has a headline nickname (Boggy), a dramatic history (his family fled Yugoslavia when he was eight) and a couple of junior titles built on his solid baseline play. Last season he gave 16th-seeded Frenchman Nicolas Escude a fright during the first round of Wimbledon by taking the match to four sets, and he won the Queen's Club junior title, lifting his world ranking from 722 to 457.
But a match-up against Hewitt or Mark Philippoussis or Wayne Arthurs or Todd Woodbridge would have seemed an illusion to Bogdanovic a short time ago.
Yet here he is just a day away from facing them on clay in the first tie of the Davis Cup.
"I think he has the quality to play, and we all have to start sometime," said British Davis Cup coach Jeremy Bates when Bogdanovic was a surprise pick.
Britain has been depleted with the loss of senior players Tim Henman and Greg Rusedski through injury. Henman has had problems with fitness and his shoulder and Rusedski is recovering from a foot operation.
Such is this team's inexperience, the British tennis authorities have few details about their own players. And all week the same players have been off-limits, not only to Australian media but to their own as well.
Last night was to be the moment of truth when everyone would discover whether the British players were intimidated or just excited. But the media conference was inexplicably cancelled as it was due to start.
But what is known is that Bogdanovic has more than a little feel for clay, on which he has practised regularly with his former coach, Argentine Tito Vasques.
And just before Christmas, when it became clear the British team would be struggling, Bogdanovic and the 28-year-old Scot Miles Maclagan trained on the slow, red surface in Spain.
The Brits understand that it will take a small miracle to wrest any sort of concessions from the Australians. And history is also on the side of the home team. Britain last triumphed on Australian soil in 1912.
