here are the match stats. from the looks, it was a pretty close game, not bad. looks like JM had the advantage in most areas, just couldn't convert his break points. 14 aces overall to carlsen's 8. good match JMG! :worship:

Oh I cannot imagine his frustration right at the moment. He was so very close to his first semifinal in two years. Argh... But, he kept his points this week and that's always a good thing.

When I see pictures of him with endangered animals, it's just too sweet!
You can just tell that he respects them and is sort of...in awe of them? I can't really explain, but I went to the ATP Insider pics, and you can see the look in his eyes! :worship:

JMG-Good luck in Florida. I hope he can get a couple of wins (at least!) under his belt, purely for the confidence side of things... Relax and enjoy himself, then start the Clay court season (not his favourite :p but anyway,) and win RG for Jules and I ;).
Plus the time difference is better, so he'll have more time to chat online :D God, I'm so selfish.

Fee
02-27-2005, 06:37 PM
He has to play Indian Wells first, and he has points to defend there. Also, he may skip clay entirely this year, including Roland Garros. If he's not ranked in the Top 100 again by April 11th, he won't get direct entry and considering how he performs on clay I don't think he would enter qualifying. Personally, I think he should skip it all and I told him so in San Jose. It just knocks him off track for a while.

Deboogle!.
02-27-2005, 07:18 PM
Fee, if he skips the clay season, are there non-clay challengers or something that he could play instead in order to get some matches in, maybe pick up a few points here and there, and gain some confidence/momentum?

Fee
02-27-2005, 07:39 PM
Yep, there are 3 starting with the Tallahassee Challenger on April 4th, which is hardcourt and even without asking him, I'm pretty sure he will enter it. He has absolutely no points to defend after Miami, so he could just stay home and prepare for grass if he wanted to. I just don't want him anywhere near clay this year, not even Houston. It gets into his head and it takes him weeks to get over it. He'd be better off staying home and running the hills around his house (and I would be more than happy to go up there and chase him  !)

Well, I got a phone call from someone who was at the match and he was pretty disappointed afterwards. He tried, he didn't give up, but it seems that nothing was working for him today and he just had a very bad day at the office, so to speak. Hopefully, he can put this behind him but I have to wonder if all of these losses aren't just piling up in his brain and affecting the way he plays singles these days...

he had bad day at the office maybe that was his problem he should tried being on the court instead

seriously though poor jan-mike i knwo what you mean, i sometime sthink he might be better concentrating on doubles for a while to get his confidence back but then i think that he just just keep trying and just not let it affect him he needs to goin with a "what have i got to lose" state of mind, but i feel he keeps going in with a "shit i have win this" head and it messes with him, same with andy really.

they'll both come through it though.

JanMike was supposed to have a new coach this season, but the deal fell apart and that person is now coaching someone else. If there was anyone else out there that he could let himself trust, I think he would be willing to make the switch. He needs to do something different. There are certain things that he wants to accomplish in the last few years of his career and its not going to happen if he doesn't pick up his game soon.

Didn't care really, it won't help him play any better. But at this stage, any press he gets is better than none, so what the heck. Of course, the magazine editors have reserved the right to pick their own top ten from the final list, so it doesn't matter where he ends up, as long as he's on the list somewhere. I'm trying to get James into the top ten now.

I uploaded the last two games of an old match against Moya, but the quality got worse.

So I uploaded another video of the last game, which has a "watch in high quality" option:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s5FJpr0COEE

The quality of the match was poor I think, as Moya was pathetic. But what I found strange about it was Gambill's reaction after the match point. He had a facial expression of a psycho imo.

He earned that wild card by winning 6 matches in 3 days at the WC tournament a few weeks back. I'm glad to see he's playing doubles as well. This tournament is a test for him, he thinks he's finally healthy after 3 years and he's looking forward to getting back on court again.

I think he will make that decision after this week (or whenever, if he can get more wildcards for these tournaments in California). Right now he just wants to see how it all feels.
