Which Matches Do You Have On Tape?

I think that we have a wish list thread around here somewhere, or that we've discussed this. But I don't htink we've actually listed it.

If we have, I'll delete this ;)

I'm speaking strictly Ferrero matches.

I have the following:

2000

Davis Cup Finals, vs Hewitt. (complete)

2001

Rome Finals, vs Guga - I HAVE this somewhere, god knows where I put the tape  It can't have gone that far... Just the last two and a half sets.

Hamburg vs Lapentti - on the same, misteriously missing tape

French Open Semi Finals, vs Guga - last set or so.

French Open quarter finals, vs Hewitt - maybe about 3 points :p

I used to have have the hamburg finals as well, but I got pissed and recorded over it;)

2002

Monte Carlo Finals, vs Moya (complete including entire trophy presentation, the playing of the anthem, the whole shebang).

French Open Semi Finals, vs Marat - I'm missing the last half set, because I set the tape wrong. But I have most of it at least. Enough to see some butt kicking ;)

French Open Finals, vs Costa - my freind taped this for me, and somehow stopped recording before the ending. I had her tape for me so that I wouldn't mess it up (I taped too, just in case, and also messed it up). But, it is better I didn't see Costa's winning moment, and I am sure that the only use that tape is ever going to have, is a place for next years final *crosses finger*

Cincinatti Semi Finals, vs Moya - complete.

Madrid, vs Agassi - blech. Another one that we'll tape over ;)

Matches that I'm in the process of acquiring *crosses fingers* :

Toronto 2002, vs Enqvist - I was there, all three hours :D

French Open quarter final, vs Agassi - would you believe that they didn't televise it here

hmmm some other ones that I'm forgetting *will refresh her memory later*

Matches that I WILL be in the process of aquiring eventually:

French Open 2000, vs Guga - a MUST, second only to the Davis Cup finals for me. I'll likely have to wait untill the summer to be able to afford it.

Davis Cup 2000 Finals - I want all of it, even if Rafter did have to retire.

French Open 2000, vs Corretja - It was a lopsided scoreline, but I'd die to see it anyhow!

Barcelona 2001 Finals - where Ferrero beat moya 7-5 in the fifth.

*others I will add later*

I think that i'm forgetting a couple - most of my tape collection is at my moms, so I might bump this up and fix it in a month ;)

For the record I actually have rewatched all of them, with the exception of RG final.

Whoa, too many to mention! Plus I don't remember them all :o

I have:
2000--Davis Cup final vs Hewitt
2001--Roland Garros vs Guga, last set (I thought it would be broadcast on USA after the Sebby/Corretja match but it was being run at the same time on NBC! )
2001--TMS Montreal vs Pat (I think, I'm not sure)
2002--Roland Garros 4th rd vs Gaston Gaudio (only parts of it), QF vs Agassi, SF vs Safin, F vs Costa
2002--Wimbledon vs Morrison (only part of it)
2002--TMS Cincinnati 2RD vs Blake (tiebreaks & last set), 3RD vs Dent (only tiebreaks  ), QF vs Arthurs (WONDERFUL match), SF vs Moya
2002--US Open 1RD vs Arthurs, the tiebreaks
2002--TMS Madrid 2RD vs Jarkko Nieminen (can't wait to watch this one!!), QF vs Agassi (though it might have been taped over because I was so pissed)

TennisHack

And I have rewatched some of my tapes, but I tape for so many different players that I haven't had a chance to watch them all!!

lol, great thread Becca! :D

matches i have on tape:
2001 FO - Semi vs. Guga
2002 Monte Carlo - Final vs. Moya
2002 FO - QF vs. Agassi (the last set and half), SF vs. Marat. i used to have the Final but i taped over that match in a heartbeat :p
2002 Wimby - 2nd round vs. Morrison (partial)
2002 Cincy - 2nd round vs. Blake (last set and half of great tennis), 3rd round vs. Dent (the two tiebreaks), QF vs. Arthurs. i used to have the Semifinal vs. Moya but that was on the same tape as the Davenport/Rubin match from LA and i was so pissed that Lindsay lost that i immediately threw the tape away. too bad :p
2002 Madrid - 3rd round vs. Corretja

matches i MUST get:
1999 Mallorca - Final vs. Corretja (gotta have the first :D)
2000 DC - vs. Rafter and Hewitt
2001 Roma - Final vs. Guga
2001 Toronto - QF vs. Rafter
2001 TMC - RR matches vs. Goran, Guga, and Kaf :D
2002 FO - F vs. Gagassi (i want the complete match)

I have the Final of Hong Kong 2002 :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: That's the only one though. I have one tape on which I record matches from JC and Swedish players and I always tape a new match over the old match from that particular player. Sometimes regret that though, I had the 2000 DC final, taped over it and I'm soooooooooooo angry with myself for doing that :fiery:  :(

Leo7
11-09-2002, 03:59 PM

Vera

I always tape tennis but tape over with more tennis... I just started taping this year and keeping what I taped, so not much:

30 mins of RG SF, Juanqui vs Marat late 3rd set. (still very mad that TSN didn't show Juanqui dismantled Baldy match)

RG final, but quickly got that taped over, knowing that I will never ever watch this match ever again.

Juanqui's TB against Dent in Cincy, Juanqui's interview after beating Arthurs in Cincy (that's all TSN shown for the whole match, though I'm thankful that at least they show the interview)
Juanqui lost to Carlos in Cincy SF

Juanqui in USO, all the 20 mins coverage of him in USO, and he was blonde!

Juanqui vs Alex in Madrid, and him vs Baldy in Madrid.

That's all, also in the process of purchasing some more from the net.

:) Vera, which matches are you buying and from where? I have to look at those sites too and get more info. So many matches... not just of Juanqui, but Rafter, Alex, Rogi...

The highest priority on my list are these 3:
2002 JC vs Baldy, RG - QF
2001 JC vs Guga, Roma - Final
2000 JC vs Hewitt, DC - 4th rubber

Then, the rest will be purchased whenever there's dough...
2002 JC vs Moya, Hongkong - Final
2002 JC vs Moya, Monte Carlos - Final
2002 JC vs Blake, TO - 2nd round
2001 JC vs Pat, Toronto - QF
2000 JC vs Guga, RG - SF (that's a nailbitting classic)
2002 JC vs Gaudio, RG - 4th round (just bcos he came back in the 5th)
Pat vs Baldy in Wimby, SF 2000, 2001 (I can only find the final in my collection:mad:)

That's enough for now, it will probably require a high pay job to afford these. :D

Vera
11-10-2002, 10:22 PM
Oh, forgot to answer your "from where" question. I will probably get it from tennisvideo, the one that TH mentioned. They have better collections, and longer coverage for match. Some other place that I saw, the same match, were fewer minutes, maybe they've cut off a game or two, not sure why, but the longer the merrier. And they quoted me $19 pounds per match or 18 pounds per if I buy 3 in one order. So it seems quite okay.

Leo7
11-11-2002, 12:34 AM
oh yeah, i would also like to buy the Ferrero/Federer match from USO 2000. :)

i don't think i could watch the Ferrero/Guga semifinal from RG 2000. too depressing in the end since he was so close. :( but i would love to get the Magnus/Guga final.

Vera
11-11-2002, 05:12 AM
Well, losing to Guga is not so bad, but it's true that it's hard to watch him lost. He also lost to Pat in TO last year. But I was actually rooting for Pat at that match:o, but it's PAT!

I'm also considering that match, JC against Enqvist in TO this year. I think Becca watched that one live? It looks like a great match, based on the score.

Chloe le Bopper
11-11-2002, 07:19 AM
Yes, I saw that live ;)

It was a suspensful match - but I'm not sure it was great quality.

It was more a matter of "who's going to throw the match away first". But worth the watch IMO., all 3 hours or so ;)

I think jcsting saw it as well, if he's still around here.

I'm more interested in it because I'm easy to spot ;)

I still have my point-by-point analysis made on the perfect final, Cincinnati 2001. ;) What a match played by Guga. I was sad for Pat as he couldnt win once again, but then in Indianapolis they were there again, and this time Pat got as Guga got hurt. :D
Couldnt be anymore perfect.

Damn, how I wish that time could come back

As for Becca on Ferrero-Enqvist, she´s REALLY easy to spot. lol :D

Oh, then, I won't mind to get this one just to spot you, Becca.:D

Well, a perfect final for Guga, indeed. I remembered it completely. Pat's serve is just what the doctor prescripted for Guga, every single one is in Guga's ideal hitting zone:eek: That wasn't a pretty match for Pat's fans. I was so worried that Pat might gone bagelled. But I was truly amazed by Guga. I thought he's going to win the USO (and damn that injury) and every single hard court tourney after...

Another match I'm wondering. JC vs Blake in Cincy, 2nd round. I think you guys in US might have seen it on ESPN. But of course TSN didn't show. Did this one worth the dough? Again, the score was very very close, I think Juanqui beat Blake at TB in the 3rd or maybe 6-4.

Vera, I got the tiebreak they played on a replay. It seemed very good, I remember. I dont know about the rest of the match though. :(

They showed the last set and a half, I believe, and I have it on tape. It was an amazing match, with the players trading 11 breaks of serve  James and Juan Carlos have compatiable games, and it brings out the best in Juan Carlos's game, I thought. So yeah, it's worth it to me :)

Vera
11-11-2002, 10:28 PM
Cool then. I just amended my shopping list to put this one in.

And Blake does bring out the best of everyone (I mean, JC, Hewitt and even Roddick). But then, he probably doesn't like it so much of this fact, since he just can't beat any of them.:(

yeah, we got to see the end of the Ferrero-Blake match on espn. from what i saw it was a very competitive match with some incredible shot-making and long rallies. both players were blasting forehands. there were some sloppy moments though from both players, not the cleanest of matches. if i were you i wouldn't buy this match right away, maybe wait a little longer. i thought Juanqui's match against Taylor Dent in Cincy was better. well at least the tiebreaks we saw here had great tennis.

Just to update the list:

All of the Masters Cup matches:
RR vs Federer
RR vs Agassi (well, in the process of getting it)
RR vs Novak
SF vs Moya
and the first 4 sets of the final

I'm dying to see these matches if only to hear PMac's mighty transformation and the bet made on-air :D Cliffy still rocks :D

i have all of his TMC matches on tape also. except the final set of the final. ;)

Vera
11-21-2002, 01:21 AM
TSN showed 4 of the 5 Juanqui matches in TMC. Though all taped and got chopped up big time. I got my sister taped the live version for me too, so I have all 4 matches in long and short version. The only one that they didn't show and the one that I'm dying to watch is AA's match. And my sister forgot to tape that one:fiery: :fiery: :fiery: very very very bad luck. Now, 2 more sushi dinners' been scraped from next month's schedule to save up for the tape purchase.:(

But I'm happy with what I got for this tourney. Though the last 2 matches, the live versions, I only asked my sis to tape for a specific length but the matches are longer, so both matches got cutted off. But I also taped the TSN with the ending, so a completed match is on 2 different tapes. Well, sorry, that's a little complicated, but anyway. I just wasn't happy that there's no ceremony, even JC didn't win, I still want to watch the speech.

My fave Pat moments must have been in cincinatti, when against I forget who - Cliff asked Pat about the best passing shots in the game, and Pat quickly dismissed Ferrero saying that his don't count seeing as they are on clay.

Two days or so later against Moya in the semis, Pat all of a sudden has seen the light and is complimenting Ferrero's passing shot like it's the first time he's ever used it.

I have a question here to see if any of you can let me know. How long is the match of Ferrero Vs AA in the TMC? I saw it on tennistapes which is about 2 and a half hours but it's listed 2 hours on Sports Resources, both claimed it's a completed match. Naturally, I want the longer one, but I'll probably getting everything else from Sports Resources and it's a lot more work to buy from 2 different places. Anyway, for those of you who've seen the match, pls let me know how long is it. Thanks.

Leo7
12-03-2002, 09:49 PM
i saw the complete match and i think it is about 2 hours and 20 minutes, Vera. the tape from sports resources might just start from the 1st point. but the tape from tennistapes.com prolly includes all the espn crap from before that match and also the player's warm up, making it longer. i'm not sure though, this is just a guess.

Chloe le Bopper
12-04-2002, 05:28 AM
Do they intentionally put only 2 hours on each tape, or what?

Have they never head of different recording speeds? Bloody hell.

Though I suppose they can charge far more for two tapes than one

Vera
12-04-2002, 05:42 AM
Hi Becca. :wavey:

Actually, most of the matches in Sports Resources are longer than the one in Tennistapes, I mean, comparing the same match. I supposed the European coverage is usually more complete. Besides, tennistapes doesn't usually tell the length of the match they have. So I was surprised to see that for this particular match, Tennistapes is longer than SR.

Anyway, thanks Leo. I think I'm just going to get this match from Tennistape bcos I'm particularly interested in PMac's crap before the AA match, not to mention that I'm eagerly wanting to hear his disappointment after his beloved AA got beaten by JC.

I just watched the complete match of that TMC final the first time (I figured that I have to watch it to cure the heartbreak, sorta like face the demon). Anyway, I didn't realize that PMac mentioned he predicted on ESPN.com that Ferrero is going to win the match in 5 . Hypocrite. Everyone knows that he has no faith nor respect in Juan Carlos... or maybe he just want to jinx him. Damn.

Hi Vera!

PMac jinxed Rogi by predicting that he would win vs. Hewitt -- I'm pretty sure of it.

Hi RF.

I'm going to purchase those tapes but I'm not sure when. I feel kinda guilty to make any purchase since I'm not producing much these days :o. But maybe I'll go soft on myself and get a little birthday present for me :D. Besides, the withdrawal is having a serious effect on me so I'm not sure how long I can hold off the purchase. Anyway, whenever I get the tape, I'll let you know how the quality is. I will be buying that TMC AA tape from Tennistapes and other JC tapes from SR, so I can compare them ;).

Hihihi, I actually have the TMC final on tape, but only the 2 sets that JC won 6-2 6-2, :D Eurosport showed the match again on the monday morning after the final and I wasn't really in the mood to watch the other 3 sets and figured I'd propably never be, so why bother taping them?

:) I know how you feel, Vera... I'm kind of in the same situation. Not much work, therefore not much money AND I just paid off my vacation in Spain [a lot of money BUT well worth it -- I wouldn't put off such a luxury, which it is these days -- so many priceless memories and moments... :D ]. But I'm also in withdrawal... I have to carefully look over those sites and decide my top matches for my fave players, starting w Rogi, then Juanqui, Pat and Alex... that's already 4!!

The ones I really want are mostly the smaller European tournaments that we don't even get news about!

Vera
12-05-2002, 06:16 PM
lol RF.

I want to watch lots of those too. I want to watch Rogi and Hewitt in TMC cos everyone said it's a great match. And Pat's match is always very tempting (I think I have Wimby SF Vs AA on tapes somewhere but I can't seem to find them). But with limited resources, I have to feed my Juanqui crave first :). So Spain celebrates X'mas, right. They are a pretty religious country, I think. Tell me more about Spain if you can.

Francine, the first 2 sets of the final weren't so bad. Juanqui was down and out after losing 7 games in a roll and down 0-3 in the 2nd. And Cliffy started counting him out (and PMac probably were thinking "I told you so" at that point). But he came back and got the break back, that's the good part of the 2nd set. But you don't get to see PMac and Cliffy so maybe it doesn't matter. I think part of the fun is seeing those 2 bite their tongues, well not so for Cliffy bcos he's Ferrero friendly, but it's so for PMac.

Vera: Why do we never get the REALLY good matches?? Honestly! I have Pat's Semis vs. AA from 2000 and 2001 -- great matches! Pat's game is so beautiful to watch -- it's unique and that's one reason why I miss him so much, besides his smiling face!

So what do you know about Spain and what do you want to know? I can tell you that in my limited globetrotting, it's my fave country. Yeah, Provence is beautiful [I've been there twice] but it lacks sth that Spain has -- PASSION and COLOUR and DYNAMISM!! ;)

Vera
12-05-2002, 06:53 PM
Pat's game is beautiful, indeed. IMO, he's the best volleyer and I like Edberg too. But his personality is what makes him attractive, so carefree, yet so competitive. Anyway, I hope I do have that 2 SF. I have the Finals for both years but it's too heartbreaking to watch.

Any idea if we'll get the Tennis Channel here on cable? Bcos TSN sucks and Canada sucks in tennis that we never get to see the best of tennis on TV (ie, that AA vs JC in RG this year  ). What are those little tourneys that you want to watch? Let me guess, Vienna this year :)?

What do I want to know about Spain? Well, everything, cos I know nada so far, except that it's a tennis nation:). For starter, how do they celebrate X'mas, if it's any different from canadians.

Vera:

Here is some info I found; I know about some of these traditions, like NOCHEBUENA and TURRON, which is a delicacy of Alicante, where Villena is! The huge Catedral in Sevilla is amazing! It is the 3rd largest Christian church in the world I believe.

Christmas is a deeply religious holiday in Spain. The country's patron saint is the Virgin Mary and the Christmas season officially begins December 8, the feast of the Immaculate Conception. It is celebrated each year in front of the great Gothic cathedral in Seville with a ceremony called los Seises or the "dance of six." Oddly, the elaborate ritual dance is now performed by not six but ten elaborately costumed boys. It is a series of precise movements and gestures and is said to be quite moving and beautiful.

Christmas Eve is known as Nochebuena or "the Good Night." It is a time for family members to gather together to rejoice and feast around the Nativity scenes that are present in nearly every home. A traditional Christmas treat is turron, a kind of almond candy.

December 28 is the feast of the Holy Innocents. Young boys of a town or village light bonfires and one of them acts as the mayor who orders townspeople to perform civic chores such as sweeping the streets. Refusal to comply results in fines which are used to pay for the celebration.

As in many European countries, the children of Spain receive gifts on the feast of the Epiphany. The Magi are particularly revered in Spain. It is believed that they travel through the countryside reenacting their journey to Bethlehem every year at this time. Children leave their shoes on the windowsills and fill them with straw, carrots, and barley or the horses of the Wise Men. Their favorite is Balthazar who rides a donkey and is the one believed to leave the gifts.

:) Vera some more stuff on Spanish Christmas:

In Spain, the Christmas holiday season is full of the usual Christmas festivities, but there is one tradition, not at all common elsewhere. Named Hogueras (bonfires), this tradition originated long before Christmas itself. It is the observance of the winter solstice, the shortest day of the year and the beginning of winter. It is characterized by people jumping over fires as a symbolic protection against illness. This fire-jumping can be seen primarily in Granada and Jaen.

The more common traditions include incredibly elaborate Nacimiento (nativity scenes), Christmas trees, and remarkable Christmas markets scattered among villages and cities with piles of fruits, flowers, marzipan and other sweets, candles, decorations and hand-made Christmas gifts. Often, as the Christmas Eve stars appear in the heavens, tiny oil lamps are lighted, warming village windows. The crowds at the Christmas market thin as shoppers return to prepare for the coming meal. The Christmas Eve gaiety is interrupted at midnight be the ringing of bells calling the families to La Misa Del Gallo (The Mass of the Rooster). The most beautiful of these candlelight services is held at the monastery of Montserrat, high in the mountain near Barcelona, which is highlighted by a boy's choir described as performing the Mass in "one pure voice."

Christmas dinner is never eaten until after midnight. It is a family feast, and often highlighted with Pavo Trufado de Navidad (Christmas turkey with truffles; truffles are a mushroom-like delicacy found underground). After the meal, family members gather around the Christmas tree and sing Christmas carols and hymns of Christendom. The rejoicing continues through the wee hours of the morning. An old Spanish verse says...

Esta noche es Noche-Buena, Y no es noche de dormir.
This is the good-night, therefore it is not meant for sleep.

Christmas Day is spent at church, at feasts and in more merry-making. A custom peculiar to Spain is that of "swinging." Swings are set up throughout the courtyards and young people swing to the accompaniment of songs and laughter.

It is not Santa who comes to Spain bearing gifts, but the Three Wise Men. The Spanish Christmas continues for a few weeks after Dec. 25th. On the Eve of Epiphany, January 5th, children place their shoes on the doorstep, and in the secret of the night, the Three Wise Men pass leaving gifts. January 6th, Epiphany is heralded with parades in various cities where candy and cakes are distributed to throngs of children.

The three Wise men are seen everywhere in Spain at Christmas, visiting hospitals, orphanages, etc. The men who dress up in various "Wise men" garments are from all walks of life. The legend tells of the three Wise men traveling through the country on their way to Bethlehem. To properly receive them, the children fill their shoes with straw on Epiphany Eve. For their efforts, they find their shoes filled with presents the following (Epiphany) morning. Spanish children have a great fondness for the three Wise men, especially Balthazar

There may be some overlap of material here, but there's a bit more info!

More on Spain later... OLE!

Wow, so many traditions, I like it. I would be nice to experience X'mas in Spain once. I really think X'mas should be about traditions and religion, but X'mas here is so commercialized and most of the thoughts and meaning are lost. I bet Santa's created by a big retail corporation to create sales in the festive season :(.

Anyway, thanks for the info. I love all these stuffs so tell me more when you have time. Thanks.

I went browsing at the Tennis Channel site. Still didn't find anything to give me a clue of whether there's any alliance with the canadian cable company. But I saw the 8 tourneys that they will carry initially. Mostly are US tourneys and not the type Juanqui usually entered. So I think I won't be missing much in the initial state. But still, will be nice to see more tennis on TV.
