I hope he can make it much better than in Marsaille, so we can finally can put that tournament behind

It would be our luck that he would have to play someone like Karlovic in the first match. What a bummer!! Can't the guy catch a break somehow? Draw a qualie, something.

Look what happened to Coria with a qualy guy! It doesn't matter who he plays, what matters is if he wants to win it or not...

We keep saying how important these mini-tournaments are for him, to gain confidence and even some points. But I'm not sure he really cares about them...He doesn't play the same way in GS or Masters than in IS tournaments. I don't think he's too motivated to play them, and that's an aspect he has to work on.
A journalist that has been talking to David is saying what David told to Hewitt at the end of the match: "You're a great player and a big champion, but you're not well educated"

Hi guys - just checking in from wet, cold, windy Rotterdam and still chuckling at the sight of "weasel" Coria looking bedraggled in his red woolly hat  Aren't I cruel? Nothing to report yet - no draw around here yet - I haven't been to the Venue yet as I only got here a couple of hours ago but they're still playing quallies at the moment. Internet time sadly limited and very expensive from this Hotel so my check-ins will be quicker than before to enable me to check my emails and do other stuff. Will keep you posted though. Bye for now :wavey:

as we all know, his state always up and down easily, so even his diehard fans can't forecast his next match. AO is the good example, he played crappy, never that worse in 1st round, but did amazing job when playing Coria. I even can't believe that two matches are played by the same guy!!!
so i will keep my usual optimistic, even his Marseille performance really made me disappointed, you never know if he will fire himself on in Rotterdam. Maybe a surprise or sth, coz we know he is never afraid of any big player. but now we can only wait and see.

of couse David-Roger final is my forever dreaming final :D

Sorry to be uncool GWH :) And I saw plenty of his studliness in action last week in a Bar in Marseille - enough to last me a lifetime anyway. Actually he seems like a nice enough guy - don't really know him - and he's certainly playing well, so unless David wakes up from his Marseille stupour I'll be going home pretty damn soon.

No I didn't go to practice today - I had a few things to do here at the Hotel and also some work to do, so I didn't bother going down to the Venue. Jud was there earlier because she phoned me - she was with CooCooCachoo and some others. Hopefully I'll catch up with her at his match - I think it will be Tuesday - he's definately not scheduled for tomorrow. I saw David this morning briefly - he seemed OK but I didn't spend too long with him. Mariano hasn't got it yet - just Eduardo - and I think I'm getting it because I started coughing at practice and couldn't stop  Practice was a quiet affair - no one to disturb the peace and quiet which means CooCoo and friends can't have been there!

David practised with Sjeng - he served like an idiot as usual  and whinged a lot. Poor, sweet Eduardo was coughing like crazy at the side of the court looking like he wanted to be anywhere else than being shouted out when he feels ill  I wanted to slap David and tell him not to be so horrible but I was coughing too much myself by this stage. David signed lots of autographs and posed for loads of photos afterwards - he seems happy enough - hope he takes Vicky out somewhere nice tonight for Valentine's Day - she deserves it! She looks so bored half the time poor soul.

Btw - Jud and my Dutch friends - you didn't warn me how much food the Dutch eat!!! OMG - the portions are enormous  The venue is nice though - a vast improvement on Marseille (it's clean for a start!) and you can sit down in comfort. It's a bit chilly though - and waiting for transport after practice was a disaster - I nearly froze to death!!!

Still no OOP as I write this - started to watch a bit of Coria after practice, but the weasel doesn't do anything for me and I got bored and came back here to warmth and comfort!!

Talk to you all later.

Very true - I know David and his coach are not that close - I wouldn't allow it for a start  You're right about the changing weather conditions though - it was 40 degrees C in Australia, and now it's well below freezing, although this flu/fever whatever it is seems to have started in Marseille where it was much warmer.

Don't get me wrong Jud - the food is lovely, - just too much of it for me!!! And the variety of salads and pasta and stuff at the Venue today was a great relief from the normal Venue food of burgers and hot dogs - neither of which I eat which always causes a problem for me. The Food Hall was great there - and some of the cakes and pastries looked awesome though I haven't tried any yet. All the Dutch people are very friendly and all speak excellent English which is great for me as I don't know one word of Dutch and my German is pretty non-existant.

The staff here still think I'm a coach though - just like they did in Marseille  It cracks me up - totally - I walked in on my own today - nowhere near any of Team "N" and not even wearing a badge or anything, and they still thought that!

The staff here still think I'm a coach though - just like they did in Marseille  It cracks me up - totally - I walked in on my own today - nowhere near any of Team "N" and not even wearing a badge or anything, and they still thought that!

Will you apply for a spot on Team "N". Remember-you're the publicist.

So I guess if he loses to Radek then I'm sacked  Though Eduardo knows I'm going to Monte Carlo and tells me I still have a job there - so - maybe they are faithful to their staff!!

He refused to play in Latin America to get better results, great idea! I hope next year at least he plays in Bs As, so his people can see him lose in the first round

David  I didn't see the match, just followed the live scoreboards, so I don't know what went wrong in terms of the quality of his play. I hope he can find his form again in time for Indian Wells and Miami - he could potentially build a lot of new points at those TMS as he has nothing to defend from that same time last year.

lol, jazz, i guess it's nothing with which tourney he played. If he lost 1st round in BS AS, just in front of you, you also will feel sad, won't u? i just more worry what happen to him. That's not the point. He went to Europe to play indoor cause it's better for his game, but all he did was play like crap and lost early when he could have done the same in Bs As. I'm sorry, but that's how I feel. I was mad at first when I heard he wasn't coming, but then I understood cause it was gonna be good for his career. But to lose like this, and with almost no fight? i totally understand u, jazz. Remember i support u to hope him play Bs As at preference? we all understand that he made that choice for his future career, coz he can earn more points on hard surface in euro. i do think he also didn't want to play that shit. Of course we didn't watch this match, so can't say much about it. But it's not only the fighting problem yet. When i watched the marseille matches, i saw he was fighting, running on the baselines and saved every ball he could in both matches, and how's the result? Fighting can do some sense in the match, but not not all. He shouldn't play hard court in a clay way, which always stick on baselines. This results his negative situation on the court, and also add the errors.

so maybe he was fighting today, otherwise he can't play back 2nd set. But he should think about his late matches playing, especially figure that loss reason out before TMS. Also we are waiting for our live watching friends for the report, maybe can does some sense.

i am mad too ~~~

ok, jud and Rosie, we need your reports and know how he plays, just can't stand this down.

Actually I don't so much feel like writing a report right now - I feel like jumping in the river opposite this Hotel - but - don't worry - I'm not that stupid! OK - so - basically - he was crap, - sad, pathetic, useless pile of crap. If I thought Marseille was bad - this was much, much worse. I am so angry at the moment - he let himself down badly - played worse than I could - no excuses. He didn't seem to want to fight or be out there or even try - honestly I am disgusted - this is why I didn't want to write this now - maybe I sound too harsh and you will all be angry with me. There didn't seem to be any sign of injury or sickness - just sheer lack of fight and effort to be honest.

I always had a bad feeling about this match - and was proved right. He was in a bad mood first thing this morning, in a vile mood at practice, and played worse than I've ever seen him in a match. Radek served well - he volleyed well too - he did his best - take noithing away from his efforts - he was consistent and fired up - and today his best was more than good enough to beat David. I feel so sorry for poor, poor Vicky - I could just hug the poor girl - she is so loyal and loving and he lets her down badly and it's makes me mad. And as for poor Eduardo and Mariano - they deserve better than this crap - sorry - they are too good for him - all 3 of them are.

Maybe Jud will be able to write a report later that is less vitriolic - I hope so. I met her today for the first time - she is lovely and it was a pleasure to spend time with you Jud  And nice to meet Martijn (CooCooCachoo too) - meeting them was the highlight of my day.

Don't know whether I will go home tomorrow or Thursday - depends on transport and if I can change my ticket with no charge.

Sorry to be miserable - love you all

Rosie

Thanks, Rosie. I think David's going through a mental and emotional slump. I don't know what it is, but one would never know until after the fact. I didn't see the match live so I couldn't tell you what was going on. I'm sure that aspect will come out later. Right now, David needs to rest and think about what's next. He shouldn't play Dubai, in my opinion, because he's not emotionally or mentally fit to do so.

I really don't know what to think about it. I am sad and angry and especially very pessimist for the rest of the year. He just can't go on playing as he does! Do something David! React!

I hope this is the worst we'll ever see, but my mind is telling me otherwise.

Ey, ey, girls!!!This is not something for being proud, but is just another match, he has more future!!!!
and Rose, you know i love you girl, but the 3 of them are to much for David? I´m desagree, cause the only person who gets in the court is David, and remember, he lost much more than one match a couple of months ago, and that´s is something that afect you in every moment....He can fight aggainst his mind since now, but will be dificult, i can understand cause i´m mad too, but girls, we know that with him nothing is eassy, so just let´s start to think in the next step........

Absolutely not - no Dubai - I haven't even heard a rumour about him going there from anyone here - where did that idea come from? I guess he could be suffering from a bad reaction to his recent bereavement - things like that affect different people in different ways - but even so - if he felt he needed the time off he should have taken it. I know the Team well enough that they would not have pushed him if he didn't feel ready - coming here would have been his decision ultimately - they would not have forced him into it unwillingly. I think he needs to go home, regroup, spend some time with his Mum - and think about the future.

Maybe Jazz is right - he would have done better in Buenos Aires - he would have felt at home and - I'm sorry - no matter what he says - until his serve improves - he is better off on clay - he got some of his best resukts on clay last year.

I looked at the schedule, and he wasn't really confirmed as going, but I hope he doesn't get the idea and go. He's much better off going home and thinking about things rather than go into another tournament. He has nothing to lose from this point on until the middle of April. I'm not saying "skip the whole American hardcourt swing"-by no means. What I'm trying to say is "go home, get your head together, and come see us when you're well again". Clearly, he's not well right now.

It is too soon to be negative, but my guess is that the indoor courts are playing too fast for his game. Just a guess. I may be wrong....

Apparently he's coming to Bs As next year, the same with Coria. I don't know if it's confirmed, but the organizators are already looking for a bigger place to held the tournament cause it's too small now. They said somthing like: It was sold out for days without having David and Guillermo, we're gonna need something bigger for next year with both of them here. Besides, the ATP is studying to "force" the players to play at their home tournaments, when the country only has 1 tournament per year...

I guess the calendar may change again next year so perhaps he can fit in both there and Rotterdam - don't know. Marseille would be no loss because it is a s*** tournament, but Rotterdam is actually a good tourney and I'm sure he could do well here in future.

OK - I've been thinking since my first report - and I was too hard on David - far too hard. His head is in a mess - until you have been in his position you don't know how hard it is and how it affects different people in different ways. I was too hard before and I apologise to David and to you all here. Talking to Eduardo has made me see things very differently - he is a calm person - he looks at things rationally and logically - he is invariably always right too. He knew how I was feeling and he comforted me when I was crying with anger and disillusionment and he put me right very quickly - thanks Eduardo - for taking the time to listen to my concerns and my fears and sort my head out too  . David will come back - but it will take time. I don't personally care if he drops out of the Top 10 or the Top 20 - who gives a toss about rankings anyway. I care that David is fit and strong and happy inside himself. The people who care will always support him - he needs us more now than when he is on top form - he needs Vicky, and Eduardo and Mariano - and - yes - he needs us too - he is very aware of the support that we give him and is greatful for it. He took the time to thank me today - he felt like shit but he still cared -that is why I support him and always will.

He seems to have his priorities straight now and that's what matters.

I am glad that David is finally going home. He needs to be with his family and get his head and heart straight. He can come back later, but some things must take precedence now. Most of us understand that, and we must support him in doing what he needs to do. Yeah, this indoor season was dreadful for him, by all accounts, but he will be back stronger and more eager than ever when this dark time passes.

When I saw that David had lost to Stepanek, I wondered if he was still feeling emotional after his father's passing... he has been brave going back on tour after his loss, trying to occupy his mind and body but it's just too much to take.

David needs to be back home w his family and friends for awhile until he feels ready to return to the tour. Pobre de David! It's still too soon... I thought about James Blake's loss also and how it affected him physically... let's hope David can deal w it and be healthy in body and mind.

I realize more and more just how thoughtful and sensitive David is, despite appearances. He is a quiet guy of few words. Makes me appreciate him more all the time.

Take care of yourself, David!

Actually I agree Sigma....I was pissed with him yesterday afternoon....well I checked the result as soon as I came out of recovery....and I was down because a) be lost and b) Jud was there and she was so excited by that. Of course I understand that it was impossible for him to have started the year the way he did because of his loss....now he needs to go away and get over things. That will take time....but he will be back....he has the whole of the year to show what he can do.... :) and if he doesn't I know I will still cheer him on....

Rosie
Ok well I was really late at home yesterday and in the same kind of mood as Rose, so didn't post much. I was sitting next to Martijn during the match, and he was a great friend

wel what can I say...it wasn't really briljant. It was very obvious that he didn't had a good day. There was something missing, like power or something... and well Radek played Ok, with a good serve. So well not much to say about the first set I guess, it was over very quick.. best part I thought were the messages from Rosie, that really made me laugh!

The second serve he won, but well he also had to thank Radec for it, Radek didn't play that treat during the second set,his serve went down and made a lot of Double faults, that is the reason why David could break him. During the break I think Radek made 2 or 3 double faults. SO well it was good that we had this 3 set.
Still remember that I said to Martijn, hopefully it will be better....

But then in the 3 set Radek started to serve better again, with less double faults. And well like I said earlier David was missing something, so he couldn't make it. Although he did make some great points in the 3 set, but there where not enough nice points to win more games.

Was really sorry to see he lossed, but if you are really honest with the way he played yesterday he didn't deserve to win. Radek had this good serve and played decent.

And yes Rose, it was nice to meet you too  Hope the picture is ok. Thanks for all the textmessages during the match and later when i was going home! You are really nice and sweet!

Hope you had a safe trip back, and well do hope we can have a chat soon again. But do know you want to have everything in order first and spend time with your boys and family. So guess we will have our chat next week!

Love RosieYeah you are right Rose, missing somebody so close and who is so important to you is always hard to deal with and it really takes a lot of time. And well when it is so sudden and there is no time to say goodbye or say some nice words it makes it even harder..

I even remember it very well when it happend to me. The days that I was walking around doing my stuff whit no idea what I was doing and if it felt right or not or why I should do it anyway...so guess David has the same kind of thing. So guess its good that he is going home, to his family. Calm down a bit and don't need to preform.

Thanks for your nice post Rosie. It's true that you were a bit hard on him. We all were, but we were just so disappointed. According to the Dutch press David fought for every point.... And after the match he said that he liked the tournament and will be back next year.

That's good to hear. Are there any updates? I know it's a day later, but I already miss him.

Hey, I just realized that no one mentioned Javier. Hasn't he been with David the last couple of weeks? Maybe he needs him there...

Another Dutch newspaper called the way David played a disaster and doubts if Krajicek (the director of the tournament) will pay the same amount of money next year, considering he didn't play like a top ten player. "Maybe if will achieve his 3 goals this year". And according to him his 3 goals are: a grand slam, the Davis Cup and to finish the year in the top 3...

Good thing is that he's already on his way to Bs As and can't read that ;)

Those are some ambitious goals. One at a time, I say. The Dutch newspaper, like many newspapers, look for the "angle" in a story, and I doubt very seriously if Krajicek would think that. Anyhow, no one knows the whole story, so whether he "tanked" the match is not an issue right now. He took Stepanek to three sets before losing, so it's not like he didn't try. It would be different if he lost love and love.

In fact, I forgot to say that it is a lousy newspaper. I regret allready that I surfed on their lousy site to read their lousy articles written by suckers. I promise you it won't happen again.

I’m absolutely sure that David didn’t play the tournament for the money and if he hears or reads these kinds of words he will immediately return the money back.

I know he has a great relationship with Eduardo and all. But I think he needs Javier there, he's family and he's going through the same thing than him...

Javier may have had to stay behind for reasons not disclosed? Who knows.
