I'm a little worried about Pim's schedule.

He's playing in France, and then San Jose, and then Memphis, and then Davis Cup, and then Indian Wells? That seems like a heavy schedule.

Sharon
02-06-2005, 12:18 AM
maybe if he does really well in france, we could see him pull outta san jose? cuz i dont see him pullin out memphis as defending champ or DC and of course not indian wells cuz thats quite a big tourney :p

it's a crazy schedule. Of course, I know he wants to collect all the points he can before the clay season starts.

But!!!!! He must NOT get injured before Indian Wells. He came into Indian Wells last year carrying an injury, and I only got to see him play ONE match and he LOST to Wayne Odensek of all people.

I guess I'm just confused about his schedule then. But you are right. He's not playing either San Jose or Memphis. And he is playing in Rotterdam.

I guess if I were him, I would like to play in Europe and remain closer to home. Since he's relocated to London, playing in France and Rotterdam keeps him close to his home base.

WHAT THE PLAYERS SAID:

Johansson: “Yes, it's my first title in Europe. It's nice to win tournaments all over the world but I haven't really thought about it that much. From 4-3 in the first set, I started to play better and to create more chances. At the start I had trouble reading his serve but then I started returning closer to the baseline. I got a lot more balls back in play and put more pressure on him.

“I served well today, with more accuracy. I think I'm playing better than when six months ago, making less errors and more solid in the rallies.

“I got a new coach at the end of last year and things are going well. I've been working on coming in more after my serve and that worked well this week. So it's a good sign that I didn't drop serve all week, especially when experimenting with something new.

“It's great to break into the Top 10. It's been a dream of mine since I was a kid and hopefully I can stay there.”

Ljubicic: “Up until 5-5 in the first set I think I played a good match and was creating chances on his serve. But at 5-5, he raised his game and started making less mistakes, putting a lot of balls in court. He put more pressure on me and I missed a few shots."

“Against a player like him you don't expect a lot of breaks. But I think he's improved since last year. He's taking less risks, less big shots, and is more solid from the baseline. He didn't miss much today.”

Johansson earns top 10 spot
From correspondents in Marseille
February 14, 2005

SWEDEN's Joachim Johansson, seeded three, won the ATP indoor event in Marseilles this morning (AEDT), beating Ivan Ljubicic of Croatia 7-5 6-4.

It was the in-form Johansson's second title of the year – and his third overall – after his success in Adelaide last month and will push him into the top 10 for the first time.

The final represented a stand-off between two big hitters with Ljubicic – who was suffering from bronchitis – fancying his chances after seeing off the Swede on their two previous meetings.

It proved a balanced affair with the first 10 games going to serve before Johansson finally broke to go 6-5, then serving out for 7-5.

"Up to 5-5 it was like the last times we played, I was feeling comfortable," said Ljubicic.

"But after that he raised his game, with lots of shots in play. That's what made the difference."

The imposing Johansson, who measures 1.88m, broke to go 3-2 up in the second set, a game that proved decisive as he went on to wrap up his win and uphold his record of not dropping his serve here this week.

In all he fired down 19 aces in the final compared to 13 for Ljubicic.

"It's my first title in Europe," said Johansson who will be trying to build on this in Rotterdam this week.

"From 4-3 in the first set, I started to play better and to create more chances.

"At the start I had trouble reading his serve but then I started returning closer to the baseline. I got a lot more balls back in play and put more pressure on him."

Johansson overpowers Ljubicic to win in Marseille
2005-02-13 18:02:26 GMT (Reuters)

By Jean-Francois Rosnoblet

MARSEILLE, Feb 13 (Reuters) - Sweden's Joachim Johansson clinched his second ATP title of the year at the Marseille Open on Sunday, unleashing 19 aces on his way to a 7-5 6-4 victory over Croatia's Ivan Ljubicic.

The towering Swede, seeded third and winner in Adelaide last month, broke his opponent once in each set.

"I made a slow start today," said Johansson, who powered down 93 aces during the week. "I was not particularly nervous but I found it hard to read the way Ljubicic was playing.

"But I slightly changed my receiving position when he was serving and everything got much better. My game swiftly improved."

Eighth seed Ljubicic, playing in his second ATP Tour final this year, struggled to cope with the Swede's power.

"I never thought about breaking him," said the Croat. "But after we got to 5-5 in the first set, I had the feeling I had a chance to win.

"But he then lifted the level of his game and put much more pressure on me. I tried to force him to make mistakes but instead it was me who made them."

Victory provided sweet revenge for the Swede who twice lost to Ljubicic last year, at the Olympic Games and at the Madrid Open.

"I have improved dramatically over the last six months," added Johansson. "My serve is more solid and consistent, and I'm also much more patient on court."

The Swede, ranked 11th last week, should break into the world's top 10 with the third ATP title of his career.

"You have to set yourselves targets, like being in the top 100 and then in the top 10, if you want to become world number one," he said.

Thank you  I could change my avater like every 10 minutes, cos I have so many pics I want to use :) Very difficult to decide which one to take, so this is why I change my avater quite often ;)

Pina, no problem. I don´t how long I needed, but it took very long time until I understood the repping thing :) (thanks to Alison ;) )
