Rusedski boost for Davis Cup team

Rusedski threatened to quit Davis Cup after Tim Henman pulled out
Greg Rusedski has boosted Great Britain's Davis Cup chances by making himself available to face Israel.
Tim Henman's decision to quit playing Davis Cup tennis led to Rusedski considering his future.

But the British number two has now told the Lawn Tennis Association that he is available for the Euro-African Zone match in Tel Aviv on 4 March.

British captain Jeremy Bates had faced the prospect of fielding two inexperienced youngsters for the tie.

i think with greg in we should definately be the favoutrites now. Unless anything major happens before then i would suggest greg and alex to play the singles and use 2 different guys for the doubles.
Its a difficult choice tho as the israel have a great doubles pair so i dont rate our chances anyway.
Its hard to tell from doubles scores who of the 2 is better, Marray seems a strong choice but his singles form is deeply worrying. Could maybe put Andy in if he is fit, might be better to play that 1st than a dead rubber. Sherwood has been playing well too.
Do Marray and Sherwood ever play together? Kiernan is another strong contender.

Poor Bates he only had 1 tie where the choices were easy :)

i'd put in jonny marray and mark hilton for the doubles, they seem to be going good together!

I'd put Greg, Bogo, and Arvind in for singles selection...and Sherwood and Marray in for doubles (if they are compatible).

your problem there Jez is that theres no andrew murray, he will be taken as he is the only other player the general public have heard of, so if he's left out there would be lots of compliants about not giving rising talent the chance etc. If he plays and we lose fair enough he is young and will learn, if he doesnt play and we lose that will be the reason.

I hope we can provide some challenge to Greg in singles although I doubt it seeing as he is in pretty good shape. Maybe Noam Okun if he plays- he beat Enqvist last year in Indianapolis and nearly took a set off Hewitt at the U.S. Open when Hewitt was #1 in the world. I just hope he is feeling well enough after retiring in his first round match in a challenger in Cherbourg earlier this week :unsure:

Also a lot will depend on Harel Levy although he has had some shit results in the last couple of years :o Mind you, he did make it to the Canada TMS finals in 2000 stopped only by Safin so I hope he can provide a decent challenge.

Hilton/Marray would've been a great combo, but probably thats all Hilton would do, and JB might have considered it a risk doing that.
But anyway, I think we have a good chance of doing well, and although people are saying Levy and Okun are not great, I have seen them both play on a number of ocassions and I think they could cause some doubles.

To be fair I did expect Noam Okun to win this match anyway so I dont think all is lost at all for Great Britain.

You could see that the Israeli's didn't have a lot of tennis in the past, and they are not regular to be quite in tennis game's , but that made it so much fun. Im not saying that in the point's there was noise but in between the points it was very loud .
5000 fans ( the stadium has 5000 seats ) with a lot of noise and with drum's. Im sure the GB players were a little suprised .

what an effort from andy murray. i liken him to nalbandian in terms of the way he plays, not the biggest hitter but uses the angles and his hands very well. and to nadal in terms of his passion and energy on court. sherwood did well too but hada few too many sloppy games, but congrats to the pair of them on an excellent win
