Federer Fans, who do win want to win the AO final: Safin or Hewitt?

and why?

My pick is Safin because he beat Roger and now go and win the whole thing. :p

Safin, he is also a great player!
And I agree with Daniel's words!

I had wanted Safin to win the title right after the match, coz he beated Roger. He deserves the title now.

But I soon changed my mind. First, he hurt Roger so deep. Second, NOBODY could beat Roger like what happened on the MP, simply unbearable to me. Third, I'm thinking of the whole shit from his fans and the stupid media after the semi, bearing in mind it's only semi-final, what more shit will they come up with if he wins the title :o

I admit I'm not generous at all...

Never thought I will cheer for Hewitt plus it's a GS final and he will have 3 in his hand if he wins it, but still GOOOOOOOOOOOO Hewitt

Hello everyone. This is my first post in the Federer express forum. I hope Safin wins the final. He played a lot better than Hewitt in this tournament. I want him to destroy Hewitt in 3 easy sets
That would show everybody there was nothing wrong with Roger in the semi-final. Safin just played some excellent tennis. His lob on matchpoint was simply amazing. But I'm still angry about that point at 5-5 in the final set. That forehand was wide

I don't care who will win the title, only expect the better player in the final wins it.
Actually, I really hope no one wins the title, of course it's impossible.

I don't mind either of them winning it- but Marat has already lost 2 finals so it would be a shame if he would lose a third- besides if he won he would have all the pressure next year as defending champ, and Roger could give him a taste of his own medicine

Safin just turned 25, which is not that young in tennis terms (I doubt Safin has the motivation to play into his 30s when things become difficult) and he does deserve another slam, particularly AO where he has beaten everyone from Sampras to Federer.

At first I have planned to root for Marat if Rogi couldn't make it, but after the loss I was bitter and switched for Lleyton. I have calmed down today, so now I don't care who win.

Both have their own fairytale story ending if they win the title. Marat to win the title in his third tries or Lleyton to win it on the 100th anniversary of AO. The best man can't win it this year, so may the second best man win :p

BTW are they fighting for #2 too here along with the title?

MissMoJo

I'm also not actively rooting for anyone. Marat has my vote by default because he beat Rogi. If he were to lose to Hewitt, i'd be very upset because we all know if Rogi were there he would win the title. So Go Marat, i guess :clap2:

Hewitt. i don't like their games of both, but after fighting so many tough matches, Mr. Potato should deserve a GS in his homeland, and it's not bad to let Aussies see their player win it.

I voted for Marat cos if he defeatted Rogi, he has to be hte best this time., But also Lleyton is a fighter anbd wanst this sooo much
About rankings, I do not know, dont they started from o??
Roger has 50 point and will get 90 so hell be 140.,

Marat has no point so if he wins he{llhave the 200. And if Hewitt wins hell have 200 + 43 for the other 2 tournamets.
So Will Marat or Hewitt be number 1, then rogi and then andy pandy? Or they count and discount over the last year point. I do not get that method of all starting again. Why they give points to the MASTERS cup then... to last only 1 month?

The Indesit ATP Annual Race starts all again at the beginning of each year. But the real race, the ATP Entry Ranking, covers a period of 52 weeks. So, at the Entry Ranking, points will be after AO :

Federer 5975
Hewitt 4140 (or 4440 if he wins the final)
Roddick 3855
Safin 3060 (or 3360 if he wins the final)

Roger still #1 of course! And a new #2 now.

And I will vote for Safin, because I want him to reach #2 asap! No more semis between Roger and Marat please : only finales!

First, nobody knows but Roger if he was hurt "so deep" or not. I think it s more of him dissapointed than hurt. (I m trying to convince myself Roger is OK  ) And didnt we say this match will teach Roger to be better? Which is only a good thing. We saw how difficult is to beat Roger Federer.
Second, let's get over the match point fact. If you are thinking about the fact that he fell down, see, he was dead tired. That was just after all the tension and concentration disappared. And he did that also when he won.
Third, every single player has "amusing" fans. And so dose Roger... And the media, just wait until Roger wins again, usually they are the most bandwagoners.

Having said that, frankly now I find myself difficult to roof for Safin again like I did sometimes... so to anwser the thread question there is only one reason why I want safin to win.
- The gap between number one and number two (Hewitt) being wider.

And reasons why I want Hewitt to win.
-as much as I disliked him in the past Hewitt has grown on me during the last year. And in this open he has been amazing. I admire him to come back from I-don't-know-where whenever I thought he was out.
-He will have three slams, let the media and fans pressure him to win RG like they do Federer.
-I want to see Lundgren's face when Hewitt wins the match point.

My heart wants Hewitt to win and the Aussies to have their desire filled for a year, but I love Marat, too, and think he will win. I also like Marat at #2, so Roger and he only meet in finals. Of course, at #3, they might be on opposite sides of the draw sometimes? Anyhow. Hope it goes 5 sets!!!!! and has everything in it :)

To be honest I had warmed up to Hewitt for the past year, especially seeing how much he always try even when badly beaten by Rogi on court. Though lately his loud come one got into my nerves but I can't dismiss his determination and fighting spirit so far, also how he overcome all the tough matches to reach his first home slam final.

As for Safin, I never really like him but I think he also showed lots of class in his match vs Rogi. Besides, you can feel Rogi really likes him, so he must be a very nice guy ;)

But that last point when Rogi fell is still lingering on my mind  ...so call me sour or petty...I will be cheering for Hewitt this time :p

Though honestly, whoever wins I think really is worthy winner for this tournament...(ok, I'm actually forcing myself to write that :o )

First things first - I want Llyton to win it!

Itīs there man down there and itīs the 100th AO - so for once the aussie cup should stay in aussi-land - besides even if his tennis isnīt great - the guy knows how to fight - he could knock off the yelling, though

As for Marat - I never much liked the guy.Iīm not into that charissma thing - or is it ego? I espechaly donīt like guys who play a bad match and than say. they didnīt feel like playing -yah,right.
On the up side - Roger likes him and he likes Roger.

As for Lundren - he looks like a big,fat Garfilde (not Ronīs,of course),waiting for the pot with cream - I just wish the cream is sour by the time he gets it!!!!!!!!!

So CīMon Llyton - beat the guy that beat your guy - for this, one time .you have my support!

I vote for Marat. I do believe that losing a third final would be devastatimg to him. As talented as Marat, I can't not see him win only one slam in his career.Your guys are a tiny bit bitter after the semi, rigth? Don't worry, Roger will be back stronger than ever.He can't win it all.

There is no reason why Roger shouldnīt lose about any match he playīs . I never take his wins for granted - there are so many things, that can work for you or against you.
What really angerīs me is that the media makes thatch a big deal out of it.
Everytime Roger loses the other guy is the>greates< or the >next big thing< and Roger is going downhill.
Itīs very much OK to give the other players there due,but you donīt have to do it by tracking Roger down - thatīs what makes me sour and not just a little bit!
I know his loses are only a big deal because he wins so much - but how can you write things like >he has to lose at some time< and than put him down, when the unanvoidable happens?

SUKTUEN

It's Safin for me. He beat the best player in the world, so he deserves it. But I'm a spiteful little thing, and I'm bitter and resentful. So I'm grudgingly rooting for him. Hewitt is the most annoying player EVAH, and I can't stand him on the court or off the court. He's a troll. I can't root for him.

I'm kind of in war with myself over this one.

who cares what the media thinks...its what his true fans know and think about roger. Second I dont know why there is a huge discontent for lundgren. He was cheering for his man, Big Deal!
Third, lets all show some class and appreciate the tennis for itself and not necessarily who is striking the ball in the final. After all Roger's fans are an embodiment of roger himself, True class!

If it makes anyone feel any better once Safin found his range in the middle of the third set Hewitt really didnt have any answer and the scoreline in the 4th set was flattering to Hewitt as Safin had opportunities to break in every game while Hewitt hardly won a point on Safins serve.
Safin was at that high level for the vast majority of the Federer match.

Dirk
01-30-2005, 01:07 PM
Thanks Wyven. This loss is just hard to take because if one or two points went Roger's way he would have been the Oz champ again. So close yet so far. Glad Marat smashed Hewitt and finally won Oz. As long as Roger remains healthy he will only get better and stronger. He has a long career ahead of him.

WyveN

He has a long career ahead of him.

Exactly. Its easy to think "if only Roger would win that match point in the tb he would be AO champion" but winning to much can cause complacency and might have hurt Roger in the long term. This loss will be a wake up call and Roger will be doing all that he can to maintain a edge over the others.

Usually I would have wanted Marat to win after beating Roger but I have supported Lleyton for so long that I wanted him to win today. Just a shame that he didn't  Marat was too good.

Roger is of course my favourite player (probably of all time!) but I have always supported Lleyton too which is strange as they are so different in every way. I supported Lleyton and Roger when Lleyton was number 1 and Roger was climbing the ranks and I supported them when Roger was number 1 and Lleyton was down at 18 and now they are number 1 and 2. I feel like I'm cheating a bit by having the top two as my favourites but I have been supporting them both for many years so I think it is a reward instead :)

i really wanted Hewit to win but today Safin outplayed him, i can say its the best match of Safin so far, its not like the match with Federer, i was still hurt with this match coz the problem with ROGER's forehand made him out not because safin played the best over him. So take care and stay healthy, you shoud be stronger and free injury to move on and i have a faith!!!

But on the other hand I don't think Rogi needs to think too much into this loss too. I thought even before the match, he had that Houston TB at the back of his mind too much. I guess what I mean is that it's good for him to have something to urge him to improve on, and that normally comes from a loss than a win but I wouldn't want him to take too big deal out of this narrow loss and have his confidence over other top players tarnished.

I'm happy that the HIppo won his 2nd slam! Molodetz, Marat! After all, the guy who beat the #1 player [who is still the #1 player and didn't lose a final here!] deserved to win it all. Remember that Marat has PL, that coach of geniuses!!

I knew that it was more Marat's and not Lleyton's destiny to win this Aussie Open.

A little less pressure on Rogi w be good but tomorrow they'll be talking up the French Open... whatever...

Hi, everyone. First-time user here.
I'm happy that Marat has won the tournament.
He's one of my favorite players on the tour,
so even though I was stunned out of my mind when Fed actually lost,
I rooted for him last night.

I was getting so angry, though, when Marat played so poorly
in the beginning and handed the first set to Hewitt in 20 minutes.
My exact thoughts were
'You played one freak match to drive Fed out of the tournament,
and now this is how you play against Hewitt!!!!!!!'

Good thing he picked up his game later in the match.
Like many of you, I really missed Fed's presence in the final, too.
But Marat's acceptance speech was just hilarious.
He was almost a stand-up comic there.
