Porn appeal shocks Swedish conservatives

A candidate in Sweden's general election has called for pornography to be broadcast on television every Saturday to encourage people to have more sex.

Teres Kirpikli says she wants to help boost the Swedish economy by encouraging people to have more children.

Her party, the conservative Christian Democrats, has reacted by asking her to leave its women's association and withdraw her candidacy from the election.

"People would feel like having more sex," said Ms Kirpikli, a 35-year-old mother of three originally of Turkish origin.

Ms Kirpikli, a councillor in the southern town of Skoevde, is standing for parliament in the election on 15 September - a vote the ruling Social Democrats are tipped to win.

"I want erotica and porn on television every Saturday and all day," she said.

"I think most people like porn, even though they don't want to admit it," she added.

The Christian Democrats have been actively fighting pornography and have called for a complete ban in all media.

'Totally out of line'

Ulla-Britt Hagstroem, head of the women's association, said she planned to meet Ms Kirpikli and that she would probably not be re-elected to the board of the association.

"This has nothing to do with our official platform," she said regarding Ms Kirpikli's views.

"This is totally against our policy."

The Skoevde councillor reacted by saying she had wanted to "start a debate on how to get more children".

She added that she understood the party was "mad" at her because she had gone against the official line.

Sweden has a negative natural growth rate, with more deaths than births now registered every year.

Well, Kim was in Spain to support Lleyton for the final. In all the pics I've seen of her there--at the actual matches, and at the DC parties--she doesn't have that ring on.

BUT at the '01 OZ Open, she's got it on. That was the ring's first appearance, and the reporters asked her about it in her first round press conference.

So personally I just think that Lleyton proposed to her (yes, proposed, I think they're already secretly engaged!) some time between the DC final in late Nov/early Dec and early January.

Yeah, she is she had it when she was 3 she still has to take medicine twice a day and cant do too much exercise but apart from that
btw if you're interested here's the boring bit, she only had 3 ventricles so all the blood was going into her lungs, she had two ops but they didn't work and she was REALLY ill so she had a heart transplant and was on a life support machine for 6 weeks and before she had her op she was really blue and weak and she still has to have check-ups but apart from that you wouldn't know she had one

But yeah... we used to have a Dame as headteacher! :o :p

'Outstanding' teachers honoured
The vital work carried out by lecturers, teachers and crossing patrol wardens has been recognised in the New Year's Honours List.
A Downing Street spokesman said the awards reflected the government's commitment to education.

"Nothing we plan is possible without the skill and determination of the people who work in our public services."

The honours aimed "to reward those who work at the sharp end, people who have really changed things or have given outstanding service to others in difficult situations", the spokesman added.

Among those recognised is emeritus professor of politics, University of London, Bernard Crick.

A prolific author specialising in American politics and biographer of George Orwell, Professor Crick receives a knighthood.

Another new knight is vice-principal and professor of medicine, King's College London, Graeme Catto.

Elected president of the General Medical Council in November, the 56-year-old says he wants the council to do "fewer things better" and intends to reform the National Health Service complaints procedure.

Warden's reward

Also knighted are headteacher at Parrs Wood Technology College in Manchester, Iain Hall, and vice-chancellor, University of York, Professor Ronald Cooke.

Headteacher of Davison High School for Girls in Worthing, West Sussex, Mrs Sheila Wallis, is made a dame.

Actually, they showed her for a moment at the beginning of the third set after they talked about Lleyton looking at her during the changeover, and she looked relatively calm. But that was probably for his sake. She looked pretty, but I didn't really like her necklace. She was wearing it during her last doubles match, too.

Hmm. Well, it would explain why Lleyton's father was so confident that the eiffel tower story was, as he put it, bs, because obviously if they were already engaged he wouldn't have proposed again. Did Kim actually ever say that they weren't engaged, or did she just say that the eiffel tower story wasn't true?
The only flaw in the logic, as far as I can see, is that in Dec. 2000 Kim was 17, I repeat, 17 years old. And...well, yeesh.

zanychick

Yes, I definitely agree with the "agreement" theory. I think when people are as close as these two are, it's not important to have a "proposal moment." They probably just have a general idea that they'll get married in a couple of years. Unless they already are! (Laughter)

:wavey: Y'all! Here is an extract from a really old and gooberish article I have :hearts:

;)

Mad about the girl

Kim Clijsters is a popular, well-adjusted teenager heading for the top ten. Kim Trengrove finds out why everybody’s crazy about Belgium’s new No.1 player.

It’s the second week of the Australian Open and a famous golden-haired couple sit high in the press seats on Showcourt watching a junior match. Kim Clijsters & Lleyton Hewitt keep their affection for one another low key, touching thighs, shoulders pressed together. He looks smitten with the 17-year old Belgian and throws her a bemused look after she yells encouragement to his sister Jaslyn, playing a first round match against top Spanish junior, Maria Jose Lopez.

“C’mon Jaslyn,” yells Clijsters after each key point. Lleyton puts his arm around his girlfriend and strokes her rib cage. “Run, run, run,” he urges Jaslyn under his breath. They talk in hushed tones about having seen the film “Castaway” the night before and just as some kids start drawing nearer with over-sized tennis balls to autograph. Clijsters slips away to play a doubles match.

It is not hard to see why Hewitt has fallen for a girl like Kim. She may not be the most glamorous of the teen queens, but she’s one of the more down-to-earth and genuinely happy young players to join the circuit.

Hi Angele! :wavey:

don't think so, because if it was just a new year's gift, why to hide that fact and tell it's a birthday thing?

isn't making much sense.

I take it she wanted to hide the real reason for the ring, hence her -bad- explanation.

But it doesn't need to be a formal engagement ring at all, of course. Can be just as a token of their understanding or something, anyway, with enough meaning imo that she felt it necessary to give it a fishy explanation.

I know, he is crazy!!! When we went to Turkey, he asked to the vendors iff they had euros, they always let them look in their pay-desk!!! They trusted him!!! It was funny! Some vendor was like, he collects what, money!!! Is he crazy!!! My sis and I were like: YES HE IS!!!!

Even if Lleyton would go out on court in a pink outfit, he wouldn't get as many pics as certain US players.

Better do some shopping though! Being on some sort of a diet because your parents aren't home isn't ideal.

I'd say come over here but I don't live in your neighbourhood...

Maybe, coz they phoned yesterday evening right after he played!!! But I don't think so, coz my dad only wanted to know what Belgium did!!! My mom was more concerned about me, iff she didn't woke me up, by calling still that late!!! She thought I was already in bed!!!
