Geez Kim can speak better English than Ezel, Ezel has that heavy French-Belgian accent when she talks. Kim sounds pretty Belgian, but one time I swore she sounded British a couple of times while talking.

This weekend, when I was grocery shopping, I bought marinated chicken wing/drumstick mix and I had them with rice tonight... they're very good... but a bit too much for one person (they come in packs of 15, so I ate all of them for dinner :o ) and were a bit greasy.... A little tidbit I caught from an article:

BOX SEAT: World No. 1 Lleyton Hewitt was cheering on a compatriot Sunday, but not at the Australian Open. Hewitt advanced to the fourth round with a three-set knockout of Czech Republic player Radek Stepanek on Saturday night.

On Sunday he was ringside as Kostya Tszyu, a Russian-born Australian, successfully defended his undisputed world boxing titles in the super lightweight (140 pounds) division.

:fiery: :fiery: :fiery: :fiery: At Lleyton for finding the time to go watch some boxing ( ) but not going to watch Kim :(

Pff, I have a like a 7 year headstart on you....

I was sweet and innocent once too (shocking, huh? :p) LOL... in fact I moved on campus just before I turned 16, and not long after that a group of people I lived with (they were all 18+) were sitting together and talking and they mentioned that someone in my building had picked up the previous night and 'done the deed'... and I just went like  and blurted out, "OMG, you mean <person's name> had SEX?!?!" .... and everyone else basically started pissing themselves laughing at me.. :o

LOL... and the Australian college culture is a bit wild.... basically dates are almost unheard of.... you pick up at nightclubs and have one night stands.... and if it happens with the same person enough times in a row, it becomes a relationship. The North American exchange students get a real shock when they first move on campus.... but the guys end up absolutely loving it, because (well, at the uni I'm at anyway) the Australian girls all trip over themselves getting in line to bat their eyelashes at the North American guys.... they LURRRVE the accent. :p...

Angele

LOL at Kim :o

A bit of horseplay

Count Anastasia Myskina as living proof that a Russian tennis player can participate in the occasional controversial photo shoot and still make it through to the second week of a grand slam tournament. Off the court, the 21-year-old, who plays Chanda Rubin today, is most famous for featuring in a GQ magazine photo spread, "Eastern Block Hotties", alongside Daniela Hanuchova and Elena Dementieva late last year. Anastasia appeared naked atop a horse (she wasn't, really, she says, it just looked like she was), with a strategically designed hairstyle a la Lady Godiva. The picture was a hit with Myskina's coach/boyfriend, not so popular with her mother, and a talking point with fellow players. At a tournament in Brazil not long after the magazine came out, Myskina was approached by a curious Kim Clijsters, who just had to know: Was she really naked on that horse?

Well once I'm in college I'll fill you in on the North American college scene :p But for some reason I think it probably compares a lot to the Australian colleges ;) And oh my god, if you replace australian girls with north american girls and north american guys with aussies, you've got me in a nutshell :D I could listen to Aussies just talk all day about anything at all and just swoon :hearts: This summer at work, I'm pretty sure I flirted with every Aussie guy that came into the store :o

LOL! Strange huh? We all find exotic things desirable....(now where can I find myself an elf? :o ) You wouldn't be the first North American who's told me that, about the Aust. accent...

But... what sort of 'Australian accent'? The really thick one like Paul Hogan in Crocodile Dundee? :p

Angele
01-19-2003, 02:33 PM
No I like soft accents better, like Lleyton's :hearts: :hearts: But all the Aussie accents are great though *swoon* And the accents are wonderful so of course I'm not the first one to notice :p And Aussies accents are the very best, better than British, southern, whatever :p

:o at you and your Elf lol :p

Hrmm... one of these days, I should actually get a TV and find out what Lleyton sounds like.... I'm curious now... I don't have a strong impression in my mind as to what his accent's like...

The way I speak myself is kinda messed up... when I was real tiny I picked up a North American accent from TV (my relatives all swear to me that it was astonishingly real) but then when I entered primary school I screwed it up and started speaking like the other kids... then I came to Aus when I was 13.... some people tell me I sound North American, some people tell me I don't really have an accent at all, some people tell me they can detect all three influences, and a few years back, a little old lady actually came up to me in a shop (I was talking to a classmate) and asked me how long I'd spent in Ireland! :o

Angele
01-19-2003, 02:43 PM
Just listen to one of Lleyton's interviews from the Aussie Open site :D He sounds dreamy :hearts:

So even after these years in Aus you haven't picked up the accent at all? That's odd :p If I could hear you speak I'd give you my opinion but meh, I can't lol

Puss-in-Boots
01-19-2003, 02:48 PM
No... 13 is a bit too old to absorb a new accent completely...if I had come here when I was like 5 or so, probably... but not at 13...judging by the number of people who say so (compared to the other responses) the North American influence on my accent is the strongest... which makes sense... cos it was the first one I picked up.

Angele
01-19-2003, 02:54 PM
So you have a North American accent... but you've never been to North America? lol :o You're one odd cookie

Puss-in-Boots
01-19-2003, 02:57 PM
I am very odd, indeed! :p But it's good to be different! :D I wouldn't call it a 'real' North American accent.... more of just possessing a reasonably strong influence.

Angele
01-19-2003, 03:01 PM
I think my accent would probably fall in the odd department as well... I'm french but I don't really have a french accent  I'm sure you've heard those thick french accents where it sounds like the person can hardly talk english right? Well mine's not like that at all... but it's not really north american either

Puss-in-Boots
01-19-2003, 03:02 PM
Hrmm... maybe I should conduct some sort of poll....

OK... all the other non-Australians that eventually read this, are Australian accents (e.g. Lleyton's) sexy?

Puss-in-Boots
01-19-2003, 03:04 PM
Yes, I think I do understand....kinda like mine... at least a couple of influences, but not 'definitely' in one category or the other....

Angele
01-19-2003, 03:05 PM
Everybody finds Lleyton's accent sexy  :hearts: :lick:

My Girl 2 is on tv :D :D It's one of my favorite movies  But the first one is better :p

Puss-in-Boots
01-19-2003, 03:06 PM
BTW, do you like the Harry Potter books?

Angele
01-19-2003, 03:10 PM
We'll I've never actually read one of watched the movies :o But no lol... fantasy isn't really my kind of thing although I do plan to rent LOTR just for you ;) lol

Marly likes Harry Potter though... are you a fan?

Angele
01-19-2003, 03:12 PM
Aww the kids in this movie and are so cute :hearts:

Puss-in-Boots
01-19-2003, 03:15 PM
Actually for the longest time, I avoided anything to do with HP... but my sisters took me to see the second movie... then I read their books... then I bought my own :o :o ....so I'm a recent convert... LOL yeah... Marly and I have had quite a lengthy discussion about various aspects of the HP books already LOL!

I love fantasy... probably my favourite genre... LOTR, Wheel of Time series, etc. etc... y'all will now find it so hard to believe, but I actually did read all of LOTR (and the Hobbit) years and years ago... and now thanks to the bloody movie, I can't pick up that book anymore without feeling *horny*. :p

Yes...go rent the movie and watch it.... everything about Legolas just SCREAMS SEX! (well, IMO anyway :o ) :D I've not seen the first movie... but most people I've spoken to that's seen both prefer the second movie and think it's better... but if you haven't read the book yet, I guess it'd prolly be best to start with the first movie.

Peridotpixie
01-19-2003, 03:20 PM
Harry Potter is great!
So Kim has a night match, huh? No way I'll get coverage of that, or be home if I do by some miracle. Bah.
Well, Kim ought to get past Amanda and then Rubin or Myskina. Unfortunately, there's pretty much no one who could even semi-threaten Serena until Kim. I really hope she creams her in the semis. Actually, even a win by a narrow margin would be acceptable. Just a Kim win would be fine by me. Yes.

Angele
01-19-2003, 03:22 PM
Well I'd like to read the books though, even if it's not really my kind of thing :o I've made it my goal in life to read all those classics that everybody knows about but so far I haven't gotten very far :o Pride and Prejudice is just gathering dust on my desk lol

But I'll probably end up renting the LOTR movies and maybe HP as well because watching a movie isn't too time consuming, even if I don't enjoy them :o

But for the most part I'm stick with my sappy, gooberish, "it's never going to end up that way in real life" love stories :hearts:

Puss-in-Boots
01-19-2003, 03:22 PM
But anyway... I was just curious cos I was wondering if there was anyone else here besides Marly and myself who'll be eagerly waiting for book 5 of HP this June.... Geez, I've kinda regressed and become a really big kid this year... first HP, then Legolas pics and posters.... I was never like this when I was younger LOL

Puss-in-Boots
01-19-2003, 03:24 PM
Well, then you should like P&P, Angele.... it's basically an 18th century version of a romantic comedy....

:wavey: Jilli! Long time no see :)

Angele
01-19-2003, 03:29 PM
Marly thinks I'll like P&P as well... and she's been gushing about the book since I met her so I figured I might as well read it, which is why I got my mom to buy that and Jane Eyre for me but the problem is that I also got a ton a those sappy romances that I love for xmas so all I've been reading lately is that :D

:wavey: Jilli!

ESPN is showing Kim's match tomorrow at 1:30 in the afternoon... it's on tape but better than nothing :D And 1:30 is my time so it might be 12:30 for you

Ah... I wish I had more time to sit in bed and read.... the one nice thing about not having my laptop earlier this month was that I spent so many hours curled up in bed with a book....I actually want to go through the entire Wheel of Time series (well, what's out anyway) again.... but first I'd actually have to buy all of them, and then find the time to read 9 huge novels... prolly not happening this year...

Peridotpixie
01-19-2003, 03:33 PM
Hi Allan! Hi Angele! I know, I'm so in another world lately.
Oh, Pride & Prejudice is great! Definitely Austen's best book. Worlds better than Mansfield Park.
Hmm, maybe I can convince my parents to drive me back to school AFTER Kim's match. ;)

I've never heard of Wheel of Time :o What is it?

Peridotpixie
01-19-2003, 03:35 PM
I read the first Wheel of Time book, but that's as far as I've gotten, even though I still have the second. It's actually my ex-boyfriend's, and we don't really talk anymore, so...
I guess I should return it one of these days. Anyway, I think the mythology in that series is just slightly too intense for me. I got really confused really quickly--and everything is completely unpronouncable! So, yeah, I think that's one series that will be left off my reading list.

Angele
01-19-2003, 03:36 PM
Allan  Was great talking to you :D Goodnight

Angele
01-19-2003, 03:38 PM
So what exactly is Wheel of Time

Puss-in-Boots
01-19-2003, 03:40 PM
Angele, it's a HUGE series of fantasy novels by Robert Jordan....

I loved reading them... but I'd agree with Jilli, the mythology behind it is very complex and I think I'd benefit from starting all over and reading through them all again....

LOL.... all the fantasy books I've read, I completely ignore the pronunciation guides they give, and just invent my own.

Puss-in-Boots
01-19-2003, 03:42 PM

Goodnight.... again ;)

Peridotpixie
01-19-2003, 03:56 PM
Goodnight Allan! Hmm, I'd better go pack.

Peridotpixie
01-19-2003, 03:57 PM
Well, Wheel of Time is VERY confusing. Have you read Lord of the Rings yet? The writing is harder, but the concepts are much easier. Of course, there's nothing wrong with avoiding fantasy/adventure altogether. But one comment--you absolutely MUST read The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy if you haven't already. And with that, I'm going to pack.

No Marly, the correct response would be go Raiders! :p

To answer Allan's earlier question yes Aussie accents are the best, Lleyton's is just swoonworthy. Sometimes my little sister and I sound British when we say certain words, more my sister because my mum's entire side is from England. When they moved here my mum was only 7, but my uncle was 12 so his didn't change that much but my mum sounds totally American. Being around my nan is just enough to say things different. My sister's school put her in a speech class because her accent isn't totally "Americanized".

oh my god that stupid movie Kangaroo Jack is number one this weekend. I can't believe it, I was hoping it would tank.

Kate05

I feel bad because I hope that they don't get compared to Sum 41 just because their both Canadian. Sum 41(who I now call The Sums lol) sound totally different than SP.

I love Andy too, when he first came out I had such a crush on him. At the time I was still harboring crushes on Pat Rafter and Pete Sampras from when I was a little kid lol.

I didn't say I didn't like punk, I said I didn't really listen to it because I didn't go looking for it or anything but I just listen to whatever's on much and Simple Plan is :D And they're good :D

Marly, get a life :p I don't need to hunt out punk anymore than you need to read romantic books ;)

Sum 41 and SP sound totally different to me so hopefully they won't be lumped together too much

lmao at my friend Sarah's away message. That is so going into my sig.
I didnt know running into the wall would hurt as much as it did. But here I am, laying in a pile of my own blood in a coma, hoping that my faithful penguin sends for help. Last time this happened the penguin just called me a pussy, took my shoes, and went to see "The Mask." To this day I still dont know if he liked it, and whenever I ask he just calls me a slut and throws ice cubes at me.

Clever poem.

You do realize that in order to be #1, you have to win on surfaces other than clay, right? ;)
