So, from what I heard, Kim didn't thank her family, coach, trainer, or boyfriend. Uh...maybe she'll thank them in private?
Hey, if someone watches the ESPN match (I can't bring myself to get up at 6 am) please report if they mention Kim, or if they interview Lleyton and mention her!
Thanks!

That's true. She thanked the cute little Belgian contingent. But I think she just forgot to thank her dad, coach, etc. Poor Lei, he had to play Yhatzee all week long on the player's lounge an dnot even a thank you ;) I'm sure she'll thank them in other interviews.

BTW, Serena was definitely tired. But nobody can say Kim didn't play a great match. The way she got those 112 mph bombs back. Very cool:cool:

Peridotpixie
11-12-2002, 04:44 AM
I was SO nervous when she was serving for the match. Unfortunately, the pressure in those situations is enough to make a player completely self destruct.
Think Lleyton was watching on TV in China?

Angele
11-12-2002, 04:46 AM
It doesn't make sense that Serena is tired after one 3 set match... I mean she should be in better shape than that!

Angele
11-12-2002, 04:48 AM

Remember how Kim won three tough three-setters in Filderstadt and then just moved on to Zurich (I think). Kim is in better shape than Serena right now.

BTW, there's an idiot in wtaworld screatching about how Serena was robbed of the first set and obvioulsy the whole match because of that overrule. Get over it, dude. Kim won in straight sets.

Angele
11-12-2002, 04:53 AM
Unless a bad call was made on match point, I say get over it :p If Serena was so good she would of won despite that call!

And Kim is definetly in better shape than Serena :D

I'm trying not to give new meaning to the word smug.:D

I did hear Kim's Dutch bit. She said their support meant the world to her.

While she was thanking the sponsors and the ballboys, etc. somebody in the crowd yelled something. And she said "wait, in a little bit" or something like that. Did anybody catch what that person yelled?

This is also great for Kimmy in terms of the Aussie Open--she ought to go into the first tournaments of the year with quite a big lead over Henin and Momo now, and hopefully she'll get that fourth seed for the Oz open--that would be awesome.

Ok, I guess Lleyton won in three. But apparently
(match spoiler, watch out)
Moya beat Safin, which is a good sign, I think, because he couldn't last week.
I hope they ask Lleyton about Kim in his interview. They HAVE to! His girlfriend just won her first friggin' major by beating Serena, how could they not bring it up?

They even mentioned Kim in Marat's interview so they have to ask Lleyton about her too lol... here's the clip from Marat's interview:

QUESTION: After losing to Moya and next match you're going to meet Hewitt and Kim clijsters won the WTA event by beating Serena Williams 2-0 today. Do you think that that will give Hewitt more motivation and how are you going to handle the next match?

MARAT SAFIN: First of all, I think that I'm playing the loser of that match, Costa-Hewitt, and if I play against Hewitt, which is going to be anyway because we're in the same group, I will still be playing against Hewitt, not against Kim Clijsters and Hewitt

Here's my Government term paper! I'm going to tweak it a bit more, but read it and tell me what y'all think anyways. :p

In the early 1980s, the specter of a nuclear war with the Soviet Union began to haunt the public consciousness more forcefully than at any time since the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962. (1) Ronald Reagan, President of the United States and a vehement anti-Communists, would factor in greatly to the nuclear arms race between the United States and the Soviet Union, and the eventual signing of the Intermediate Nuclear Forces Treaty.
During his 1980 presidential campaign, Reagan pledged that he would confront the Soviets and oppose communism and terrorism anywhere. During his first term as president, the military underwent the biggest peacetime buildup since 1940. (2) A five-year Defense Guidance Plan adopted in 1982 outlined plans for $1.2 trillion in new defense spending. (3) Reagan continuously referred to the Soviet Union and Communism as the “Evil Empire.”
On March 23, 1983, President Reagan startled Americans and the world with a speech in which he proposed that the United States should develop and deploy a shield, at least partially based in space, to intercept incoming strategic missiles. (4) Called the Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI), the project was estimated to cost in the hundreds of billions. Although Edward Teller, one of the nuclear physicists prominent in the initial development of U.S. nuclear weapons, promoted the project, many questioned whether such a program was technically workable. (5) Critics also said SDI would violate provisions of the 1972 Antiballistic Missile (ABM) Treaty, a charge the Soviets also made. (6)
Other critics pointed to the cost of SDI and its impact on nuclear deterrence. Since the beginning of the Cold War in the 1960s, the United States and the Soviet Union had approached parity in the numbers and types of nuclear weapons. According to conventional wisdom, the fact that each side could destroy the other produced stability because neither side would risk attacking the other. (7) This strategic doctrine was labeled Mutual Assured Destruction (MAD). (8) With SDI, the United States would be in a position to attack the Soviet Union without fear of a successful Soviet counterattack. Reagan wanted to get a jump on the Soviet Union in the development of SDI because he feared that the Soviets might try to develop and deploy their own system. (9) Many critics feared that, should either side gain such an advantage over the other, deterrence would be unstable. (10)
Because of the SDI program and Reagan’s apparent disregard of the MAD doctrine, many thought his administration revolved around winning a nuclear war with the Soviet Union. Formulation of plans to bolster civil defense and to deliver mail in the aftermath of a nuclear war did little to dispel such a notion. (11) In fact, the Defense Guidance Plan of 1982 suggested that a nuclear war might be winnable. (12)
However, in direct conflict with his public policy, Reagan initiated a secret correspondence in July 1983 with Yuri Andropov, leader of the Soviet Union. He expressed his desire for “a more active level of exchange than we have heretofore been able to establish,” and “mutual, verifiable reduction in the number of nuclear weapons [as] a first step toward the elimination of such weapons.” (13) His reputation as a warmonger notwithstanding, Reagan was deeply committed to making substantial cuts in, and eventually eliminating, the superpowers’ nuclear arsenals. (14)
In 1985, Mikhail Gorbachev became leader of the Soviet Union. Part of a new generation of Soviet leaders whose political experiences were forged during the leadership of the reform-minded Nikita Khrushchev, Gorbachev introduced a policy of glasnost (openness), demokratizatsiia (democratization) and perestroika (restructuring) into the Soviet society. In foreign policy, Gorbachev wanted to be more conciliatory to the West, to see further reductions in conventional and strategic arms, and to downscale or eliminate Soviet influence in Third World conflicts. (15)
In the Washington Summit of December 1987, Reagan and Gorbachev signed the INF Treaty, which called for the withdrawal of all the intermediate-range nuclear missiles from Europe and the Soviet Union, subject to on-site verification. (16) For the remainder of his term in office, Reagan boasted about negotiating the first arms-control treaty ever to eliminate a whole class of nuclear weapons. (17) The signing of the INF Treaty, in addition to the Gorbachev’s willingness to cut Soviet aid to Third World countries and his withdrawal of Soviet troops from eastern Europe ushered in a major transformation in world politics by the end of the decade. (18) During 1989, nearly every Communist country in eastern Europe collapsed and was replaced by a new, democratically elected government. (19)
As the 1980s came to a close, both Reagan and Gorbachev had realized that the ideological differences between their countries were not worth the risk of a nuclear confrontation. The Cold War, which had dominated global politics since the end of World War II, was over. (20)

Gooberish material from an article I just posted in the article thread:

"If the Australian required any extra motivation, it came in the form of the superb victory of Kim Clijsters, his girlfriend, in the feminine equivalent of these championships the previous night. Hewitt woke to the news from Los Angeles of Clijsters’s success over Serena Williams that, for all Williams’s insistence that it is the Australian Open in January and a four-in-a-row grand slam that motivates her, marked at the very least a pause in the deafening domination enjoyed by the Williams sisters in the big events.

By the end of the evening, Hewitt was being assailed from all sides — the Chinese just love a love story — on questions about Clijsters and, in response, offered a weak “anyone going to ask me about men’s tennis?”

A double for Clijsters and Hewitt would offer tennis another touching storyline to end a year that has brought Tim Henman the glories of fatherhood for the first time; was marked when Costa won the French Open in June and then ran into the stands to hoist aloft his twin one-year-old daughters, Claudia and Alma; and saw the appearance of Jaden Gil Agassi, Andre’s boy, on a French television station, when he was presented with a cuddly teddy. "

So what did he say about Kim's win???

Hello Tinne! :)

Bad storms? No... we've just had a heat wave... but the wind's been quite mild! So the house's still standing, but my allergies are killing me! :p How are you?

I'm so happy Kim won! She's taken 3 titles in the last 4 weeks and beaten some quality opposition along the way, things look really good for next year! :D :bounce:

Guess I totally misread then. Sorry to hear about your allergies. Saps all your energy, doesn't it?

Long day at work. My boss walked into an AIM conversation I was having (in my defense, it was after work hours). Before that, I had my msn open while I was showing one of the girls on my team what to do on my computerscreen. As I am talking all of a sudden a "Kimmmmiiieee wonnnn" has signed on" (clare, i think) message popped up in the middle of the screen. As that girl was watching.

And I'm good Allan... I'm at my cousin's at the moment, I'm sleeping over since he's out at work and his wife doesn't like to stay home alone  and I have no school tomorrow so I thought meh, what the hell :)

And i'm still :fiery: :fiery: that the Masters Cup site hasn't posted Lleyton's interview
