And what was it about :p Murkofan 10-15-2002, 01:23 AM Sorry, I just missed you Scotty. :o I spent 3 hours writing an English essay that's due tomorrow. :p OMG, I suck at FMTT points. :o Allan, sweetheart, you get to do our doubles points from now on. :p  I love that Lleyki compilation pic you made, BBB. :D Good luck to Kimsy tomorrow! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: Murkofan 10-15-2002, 01:29 AM Here's the descriptive essay I had to write for English. I couldn't be too biased for Lleyton. :p Hewitt Hits a Winner The 2001 U.S. Open Quarterfinal match between Andy Roddick and Lleyton Hewitt was being touted as a battle of the young guns. In one corner was Andy Roddick, the animated teenage sensation with a booming 141-mile per hour serve. In the opposite corner was Lleyton Hewitt, a four-year veteran of the international tennis circuit at age 20, known for his speed and persistence. At 6’2” and 185 pounds, Roddick towered over Hewitt, who was the much slighter of the two at a mere 5’11” and 145 pounds. The other three Semifinalists had already been determined, leaving only one spot up for grabs. Tennis analysts and fans alike were split over who would fill it, and anticipation for the match was through the roof. At 9 PM on September 6, as the players stepped onto the court at Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York City, both received very different receptions. Roddick raised his hand to acknowledge the capacity crowd, and was welcomed with a wave of thunderous applause. Hewitt didn’t appear to notice this or the fact that he was greeted with catcalls and boos. He kept his head down as he walked past Roddick, staring at his feet as they led him to his chair. Roddick had become a favorite with the New York City crowd over the fortnight, bouncing around the court like an overgrown Labrador puppy and wearing his emotions on his sleeve. He thrived on the energy of the crowd, and enjoyed playing up to it. Hewitt, on the other hand, paced the baseline quickly, picking at the strings on his racquet. His clothes were a size too large, and he was continually tucking his gold necklace under his shirt and readjusting the white baseball cap he wore backwards for good luck. Rather than interact with the crowd, he seemed to defy it, steely blue eyes focused only on the tennis ball. The only person he acknowledged in the stands was his longtime girlfriend, Kim Clijsters, who was a professional tennis player herself. As the players took to their respective sides of the court, they unwittingly gave off the impression of good versus evil, a fact that the crowd seemed to embrace. The American Roddick, dressed in white, seemed spry and surprisingly relaxed, while the black-clad Australian Hewitt was subdued and intense. The stadium was abuzz as Roddick, who had won the toss and elected to serve first, stepped up to the painted white line to begin the match. Both players held serve after being down love-30, and were off to the races. True to form, Roddick fired aces and blasted heavy forehands, while Hewitt returned served and chased down groundstrokes that would have been winners against anybody else. Every game went on serve, with neither playing holding a break point, until Hewitt held for 6 games all. The first set would be decided in a tiebreak. Contrarily, the first two points of the tiebreak were service breaks. Roddick served first and lost the point when Hewitt forced him into a forehand error. Up one point to none, Hewitt served and was broken back when he dumped a swinging forehand volley into the net. After that, however, the tiebreak was all Roddick. Hewitt committed 3 unforced errors on the forehand side alone, allowing Roddick to serve out the tiebreak 7 points to 5 and the first set 7 games to 6. In the second set, Hewitt came out more determined than ever. Though he was taken to deuce twice, he held serve to take a 1-0 lead. In the next game, he seemed to up the ante, scowling and muttering to himself and scampering across the court to hit winners or force Roddick into errors. After over an hour of play, Hewitt held the first break points of the match at 15-40. Roddick was able to save the first break point with a 136 mile per hour serve, but double-faulted at 30-40 to hand Hewitt the break of serve. Furious with himself, Roddick slammed his racquet to the ground, while Hewitt clenched his fist in the direction of Clijsters. It was the only break of the set, and seven games later, Hewitt served out the second set 6 games to 3. At the start of the third set, the match was tied, and both players looked seemed resolved to win it. In almost two and a half sets, Hewitt hadn’t faced a break point, but at 2-3 down in the set, Roddick had an advantage point on Hewitt’s serve to get his first chance. Hewitt hit a serve out wide, and Roddick stretched to smash a forehand return that seemed as if it would be winner. The ball clipped the top of the tape and bounced back onto Roddick’s side of the court, who threw back his head and yelled in frustration. With the game now back at deuce, the two players engaged in a point that Roddick would almost certainly have won against any other player. Hewitt scrambled, and got one would-be winner back, then another, until Roddick hit a forehand volley into the net. Hewitt clenched his fists and bellowed his signature cry of “Come on!” and proceeded to win the next point to level the set at 3 games all. His missed opportunity seemed to deflate Roddick, and in his next service game, he quickly found himself down 0-40. A cross-court forehand hit wide, and Hewitt got his second break of the match, and the only one he would need in the set, winning it 6 games to 4. With Hewitt leading 2 sets to 1, he seemed to have all the momentum as the fourth set started. Roddick held serve to start the set, and then it was Hewitt’s turn to suffer from letdown. At 15-40, only Roddick’s second and third break point opportunities of the entire match, Hewitt hit an uncharacteristic double-fault to give Roddick his first break. As in the second and third sets, one break was all that was needed, and Roddick was able to serve out the set 6 games to 3. The match headed into the fifth and deciding set. Sweat dripped off the bill of Roddick’s baseball cap, and his shirt, soaked through, clung to him. Hewitt continued to pace and readjust his baseball cap, wiping the sweat off his face with the sweatband he wore on his left wrist. Both players made frequent use of the towels provided by the linesmen, and both seemed unwilling to buckle and concede the match. After holding a game point at 4 games all, Hewitt hit his ninth double-fault, giving Roddick a break point. Hewitt saved that with an ace, only to hit another double-fault to face break point again. Another big serve forced a Roddick error, and Hewitt was able to hold for a 5-4 lead. Serving to stay in the match, Roddick hit a cross-court forehand that was called in by the linesman, but overruled as out by the chair umpire, giving Hewitt the first point of the game. Roddick erupted, screaming obscenities at the chair umpire as Hewitt calmly watched. Although Roddick won the next point to level the game at 15-15, he was clearly rattled. At 30-40, Roddick tried to serve and volley, only to watch as Hewitt’s forehand return zipped past him into the open court, giving Hewitt the deciding break. Roddick’s shoulders slumped as Hewitt screamed with joy and fell face first onto the court, crying. After a moment he stood, clenched his fist at Clijsters, and calmly walked to the net to shake hands with Roddick. Over 3 ½ hours after the start of the match, Hewitt had claimed the last spot in the Semifinals, defeating Roddick 6-7 (5-7) 6-3 6-3 3-6 6-4. He would later go on the win the tournament and claim his first Grand Slam title. My conclusion is weak, but meh, I don't care. :p Angele 10-15-2002, 01:30 AM I just saw that pic Cilla... :hearts: :hearts: :hearts: Murkofan 10-15-2002, 01:47 AM Come on people, respond to me. :p Will I pass with that paper or not? :p Of course I will. BBB will be so proud. :p :D but you could of mentioned their minging sunglasses :p But I must say I enjoyed when you said Kim was the only person he was looking at in the crowd :D pinkie 10-15-2002, 02:03 AM  Ladies  Angele 10-15-2002, 02:05 AM TINNE :D :wavey: Angele 10-15-2002, 02:06 AM I'm watching the baseball game.... :fiery: :fiery: First and third with nobody out :fiery: :fiery: :fiery: Murkofan 10-15-2002, 02:07 AM Originally posted by angele87 :D but you could of mentioned their minging sunglasses :p But I must say I enjoyed when you said Kim was the only person he was looking at in the crowd :D Putting something about "minging sunglasses" really wouldn't've fit the theme of the essay, QG. :p And yeah, I kinda figured you'd like that part. ;) :p Angele 10-15-2002, 02:07 AM 1-0 :fiery: :fiery: :fiery: :fiery: :fiery: :fiery: :fiery: :fiery: :fiery: :fiery: :fiery: :fiery: :fiery: :fiery: :fiery: :fiery: :fiery: :fiery: :fiery: :fiery: Murkofan 10-15-2002, 02:09 AM And yes, Tinne! :D pinkie 10-15-2002, 02:11 AM does anybody know when kim will be playing tomorrow? Angele 10-15-2002, 02:13 AM PFFFF!!! GO GIANTS!!! Murkofan 10-15-2002, 02:16 AM Chill out QG. :p Static 10-15-2002, 02:17 AM What in the bloody hell... :fiery: I would wear minging sunglasses over chem... I'm thinking of not taking grade 12 chem now... this is seriously a turn off :o Murkofan 10-15-2002, 02:18 AM All math and science is evil. Angele 10-15-2002, 02:19 AM Math is not the devil  :p Static 10-15-2002, 02:20 AM Originally posted by Dr. Marly All math and science is evil. agreed :o Murkofan 10-15-2002, 02:20 AM I said it was evil, not the devil. You're the devil. :p Murkofan 10-15-2002, 02:22 AM OMG Ana, you're rubbing off on me. I went through 2 gallons of milk by myself this weekend. :o Angele 10-15-2002, 02:23 AM Well Allan likes math more than I do  :p Murkofan 10-15-2002, 02:26 AM Allan is lovely, his fondness for math notwithstanding. :p Allan  pinkie 10-15-2002, 02:26 AM Explain this one to me: as if visors aren't stupid enough, why does Hantuchova have to wear one indoors? To block the bright sunlight that can't even get in the building?:o The only thing worse than visors are upside down visors. What's the point of that, other than looking like an idiot? Catching the rain? Static 10-15-2002, 02:28 AM Hmmm upside down visors eh? Reminds me of Andy :p I guess she doesn't want the lamps blocking her vision :o MILK MILK MILK !!!!!! SWEET! :D Murkofan 10-15-2002, 02:30 AM She probably thinks it makes her look sexy. :p Btw, I like Kimmy's new look. :D I didn't at first, until I realized it wasn't a headband (like that minging thing Lleyton wore for a bit during the clay season :o ) but a bandanna that she folded and tied in the back. It's sweet. :D Milk  Angele 10-15-2002, 02:31 AM Maybe she just uses the visor to keep the hair out of her face or something?? Or maybe it's just superstition ( sp?) or that she's so used to playing with it that she keeps on wearing it lol Angele 10-15-2002, 02:33 AM I like Kim's bandana :D It looks much, much better than Lleyton's headband :o and plus it lets us see those great new highlights :D Murkofan 10-15-2002, 02:35 AM Or maybe Hantuchova just wears the visor because she's dumb. :p And pff, what makes you think Kim's got highlights? Her hair looks the same to me. :p Angele 10-15-2002, 02:37 AM Pfff I saw highlights :p Static 10-15-2002, 02:38 AM Oooh I learned how to pronounce Hantuchova's name properly now :o Like actually how it's supose to be pronounced! YEAH! It's like Ghantukova... the GH thing is kind of confusing... but yeah it's somewhat like that :o Murkofan 10-15-2002, 02:41 AM American commentators can never decided if it's "Hantoo-Kovah" or "Han-Too-Kova." :p And pff, Kim's hair looks the same to me. :p Static 10-15-2002, 02:42 AM Ok maybe we shouldn't confuse them with the G things because that would screw all the viewers pretty badly :o Angele 10-15-2002, 02:43 AM BASES LOADED :D pinkie 10-15-2002, 02:43 AM I must say I saw highlights too. *prepares to run away just in case Marly decides to get upset* Angele 10-15-2002, 02:45 AM Highlights :p Static 10-15-2002, 02:46 AM Oh for god sakes it's just hair :p Murkofan 10-15-2002, 02:47 AM Tinne, you're a Lleyki, I'm not going to shoot you. :p But Kim's hair still looks the same to me. :p However, it's common knowledge that when it comes to looks/fashion, I am not the most observant person in the world. :o :p The funniest thing is listening to American commentators trying to pronounce "Henin." :p Murkofan 10-15-2002, 02:49 AM Originally posted by Static Oh for god sakes it's just hair :p Right on, Ana! :bounce: But I still don't see the highlights. :p It just looks like she's been sweating to me. :p pinkie 10-15-2002, 02:50 AM You mean Joos-teen Hennin? Angele 10-15-2002, 02:51 AM You can see them a bit here too :p Angele 10-15-2002, 02:52 AM Originally posted by pinkie You mean Joos-teen Hennin? Murkofan 10-15-2002, 03:17 AM :wavey: Ana! Angele 10-15-2002, 03:18 AM Ana :wavey: Sorry Marly but you've got me really interested in this crap :p Peridotpixie 10-15-2002, 03:20 AM Kim plays the second night match tomorrow, so she'll have a little extra rest. Apparently Jelena has admitted that she plays too much and said she intends to cut her schedule next year. (She'll probably lose tons of points.) Murkofan 10-15-2002, 03:21 AM Originally posted by pinkie Like a virgin? Hey!... Like a vi-er-er-er-gin! The last sounds is an -eh. You don't end with the -s. Does that make sense? That just sounds like saying the name "Melissa" to me. :o Angele 10-15-2002, 03:23 AM :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: for RT losing a ton of points :o If she plays a regular schedule like the rest we'll be able to see where she really belongs :D pinkie 10-15-2002, 03:24 AM Originally posted by Dr. Marly But Maliss-eh? Who can possibly justify killing innocent people? :fiery: :fiery: Murkofan 10-15-2002, 03:33 AM A theory is that many violent criminals 1) have a chemical deficiency in the brain and 2) were beat as children, which, in addition to the chemcial deficiency, makes them prone to violence and without empathy. Angele 10-15-2002, 03:37 AM Ok the Chemical stuff makes sense but I'm not 100% I can accept the being beaten as a child excuse... Those people have to know that killing people isn't ok! Murkofan 10-15-2002, 03:38 AM Not everyone knows that though. And *gasp* some people know that, they just don't care. pinkie 10-15-2002, 03:40 AM So depressing. The sixth seed beat Daja Bedanova 7-5 6-2 in 77 minutes in front of a good Schluefweg Arena crowd which included her boyfriend Lleyton Hewitt. Her victory, which sets up a second round clash with Amanda Coetzer, was very much in Hewitt's style - Clijsters traded punches in a close first set, sneaked the break in the 11th game, and once she had taken the first set she never looked back. That result completes the first round of the Swisscom Challenge, with all the seeds safely through. Peridotpixie 10-15-2002, 08:39 PM Kim and Dani play the third night match tomorrow. Go, girls! Stevenson ousts Sugiyama Tue Oct 15, 4:38 PM ET By ERICA BULMAN, Associated Press Writer ZURICH, Switzerland - Fresh off her title in Filderstadt, a runny-nosed Kim Clijsters continued her winning ways Tuesday, defeating Czech Daja Bedanova 7-5, 6-2 in the opening round of the US$1,224,000 Swisscom Challenge. Earlier, American qualifier Alexandra Stevenson countered 11 double faults with 10 aces to oust Japan's Ai Sugiyama in straight sets while seventh-seeded Daniela Hantuchova of Slovakia eliminated compatriot Janette Husarova 7-6 (5), 6-1. The sixth-seeded Clijsters, who defeated Hantuchova in the final at Filderstadt on Sunday, needed time to adjust to the much slower surface in Zurich. But the Belgian, with boyfriend Lleyton Hewitt watching from the sidelines, quickly found her groove in the second set to post her sixth straight win. "It feels like only a few hours ago I was playing on center court in Filderstadt," said a shivering Clijsters, hugging herself tightly. "I was on a high last week and playing three-set matches over two hours. So it was hard to get going here. "Plus I've had colds on and off the past month and I've been sick for a week," she said, adding that she had just passed on her cold to Hewitt. "But as long as I keep on winning, I'll take that (the cold) with it." Clijsters will face Amanda Coetzer in the second round. "She beat (Jelena) Dokic in Moscow," Clijsters said. "She's a tough opponent. She fights every ball and she runs a lot of balls down. "I'll have to make fewer unforced errors," concluded the Belgian, who committed 37 unforced errors to Bedanova's 26. Stevenson, who reached the quarterfinals of Filderstadt last week before losing to Hantuchova, won five consecutive games in the second set to defeat Sugiyama 6-3, 6-4. "I was down 4-1. I gave her a couple of breaks," the 21-year-old Stevenson said sheepishly. "But then I broke back. It was good." Stevenson will meet fifth-seeded Dokic in the second round. The two last met in the round of 16 just over a month ago in Montreal, where Dokic won in three sets. The match may once again prove tough for the Yugoslav. The promising young American has toppled several big names this season, such as Coetzer and Elena Dementieva, and twice upset Jennifer Capriati. In addition, the weary Dokic — who finally broke a four-match losing streak Monday with a win over 1995 champion Iva Majoli — is showing signs of wear, having played 74 matches over 28 tournaments this season. Stevenson is appearing in her 24th event, but has played fewer matches, generally going out earlier than Dokic at tournaments. Hantuchova, like Clijsters, appeared uncertain in her opening set against Husarova, needing time to accustom herself to the slower surface. Once settled, however, Hantuchova had little difficulty taming her fellow countrywoman. "It took awhile getting used to the bounce," Hantuchova said. "I expected a tough match so I'm glad, especially in the second set where I had her under control and I dominated." In other action, eighth-seeded Anastasia Myskina of Russia defeated Lisa Raymond of the United States 6-4, 4-6, 6-2. After clinching the opening session, Myskina faltered slightly, and Raymond, attacking particularly well, was able to even the sets. But the Russian raised her game in the third, jumping to a 4-0 lead to put the match out of reach. Local favorite Patty Schnyder kept spectators happy, beating Czech Denisa Chladkova 6-3, 6-2. Murkofan 10-15-2002, 09:43 PM Don't fret, QG, Kim'll be fine. ;) She's just got a cold, not some bizarre deadly disease like me. :p I wonder how she managed to give her cold to Lleyton? :p ;) Static 10-15-2002, 09:44 PM Originally posted by Lleyton's_Chick Para's Victims LL  Safin DG :D Guga...the list goes on I just can't remeber :o MARCO!!!!!
