This song is surely on my top 5 of "songs that make you want to turn off the radio and throw it out the window". Other songs in that category: Hello (by Lionel Ritchie), Nikita (by Elton John), Lady in Red (by Chris de Puke)....

Can't stand it. Make it go away:mad:

Scott, this is what my playasport tennis player's stats look like, any glaring faults that I should fix?

Serve 65.0
Forehand 50.0
Backhand 50.0
Volley 35.0
Fitness 38.0
Speed 36.0
Clay 10.0
Grass 7.0
Carpet 7.0
Hardcourt 10.0

I'm mad at playasport :p

I get so unlucky! I face a top 200 player AGAIN :p

Scotso
10-10-2002, 10:50 AM
I don't know, Allan. Different strokes for different folks... although, having the serve so high with the volley and speed so low is an issue. Serve helps mostly on grass and carpet, but since your speed and volley is crap, you can't serve and volley. :p

Puss-in-Boots
10-10-2002, 10:52 AM
Pff.... so since there's a good deal of clay tourneys left, what should I focus my training points on over the next week or so?

Puss-in-Boots
10-10-2002, 10:56 AM
Or.... should I choose to do that "one-time career adjustment" thingymajig... should I actually pick a surface and specialize accordingly?

Scotso
10-10-2002, 10:56 AM
Well there are a LOT of carpet events that are tier Vs, so I would focus on getting your volley up to snuff.

Puss-in-Boots
10-10-2002, 10:59 AM
OK... over the next week or so I'll dump anything I get into volley...and see if anything remarkable happens.... I don't need to worry about adding anything to surfaces for now?

Puss-in-Boots
10-10-2002, 10:59 AM
Hrmm... I guess I should actually also get speed and fitness up..... better hope for more of those 3 point days....

Scotso
10-10-2002, 11:00 AM
I never worry about surfaces :p

Scotso
10-10-2002, 11:01 AM

I doubt that it will be in Melbourne because the Aus. Open is there a few weeks earlier and Adelaide is unlikely because they played there last time...so I'm hoping for Sydney. I can stay with my family there and not have to pay for accommodation

Hi everyone! :wavey:

It's me again. ;) I just wanted to bounce some more for Kimmy!

:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Just saw the tape of the match and she was pretty incredible. :D I guess Majoli just couldn't get a hold of her amazing serve. The only game Majoli won in the 1st set, she won it on pure luck as the net cord derailed the ball into the court or it would have been back to deuce. Kimmy was on fire, very authoritative. I'm telling you, if she continues to play like that, she's gonna win the tournament. :) You're right, Lindsay better beware. ;)

Lleyton was there of course. He was wearing a cap this time, so I couldn't check out his hair again. :p

Yeah, I have coverage of three tournaments this week, so I have to juggle between the three and tape them. :) No Lindsay isn't playing as well as she was a few weeks ago. She's having problems with her serve. Her victory over Smashnova was all but easy.

Tommy! :fiery:  I watched that too. I don't like the direction this touney is taking. I hope Juan Carlos can win it all. :D

Yes!!! Just came back to see that Justine has lost!, though I think the winner on WTA Fans is wrong...
She'll lose a LOT of points here.
Hmm, time for some math.
Henin has 2775, and she's out, so she'll stay there.
Kim is at 2667, plus her points from today's win, including 15 bonus points...never mind, this is too complicated. The moral of the story is she is now VERY close to Henin.

Peridotpixie
10-10-2002, 06:47 PM
Ladies and gentleman, after winning the first set 6-1, Jelena Dokic has lost to Tatiana Panova.
I repeat, Jelena Dokic has lost.
(Sly grin creeps across face)

Peridotpixie
10-10-2002, 06:56 PM
Still bad at math and don't have numbers in front of me, but I think this means Ingrid is right--if Kim wins she will move ahead of Davenport, Henin, Dokic, and Seles, therefore taking the number 5 spot with nothing to defend next week. If she loses (heaven forbid) she'll be behind Henin, Seles, and Dokic by a pretty small margin. Seles isn't playing next week, Dokic has finalist points to defend, and Davenport has title points. So, all in all, it's loking good for Kim.
And I definitely think she has a huge shot at beating Lindsay tomorrow.

Puss-in-Boots

A  for Marly when she reads this

Peridotpixie
10-10-2002, 07:31 PM
Ok, here we go, I finally got out a pen and some paper. Here are my calculations--feel free to correct me.
Dokic is currently at number 5 with 2800, leading Seles by a mere 4 points.
Kim is at 2681. If she beats Lindsay, she'll get 99 points for the semifinal plus 43 bonus points for beating a top tenner, for a total of 142 points, which would bring her to 2823. And number 5.

Kim, now that I've done all this math, you'd better win tomorrow! :)

I have two midterms next week. One of them is in Civil War, which shouldn't be too hard, I'm not going to read the chapters of the book because, frankly, I've had this teacher before and he doesn't seem to use them. I'll just study my notes.

The other is in Modern Ideologies. I read the Federalist Papers, but I need to read the 60-page introduction. I also need to read Mill's "On Liberty" which is about 120 pages, but I found a 10-page summary of it, which, of course, I will read instead. I also need to read the introduction to Mill, and the responces to him, which are about 20 pages each.

I have a test in Old Testament, so I have to read another chapter of the book, about 50 pages, for one of his super-hard tests. He asks very obscure questions, so I have to go over the chapter again and again.

I have a test on some readings for English. We're supposed to read Ben Franklin's entire 150-page biography by Tuesday, which I obviously have neither the time nor the will to do. Luckily I found a summary on that at SparkNotes. I also have to read about 50 pages of other material for that quiz, and do some other stuff.

I need to start researching Ba'alism for a research paper I have to write.

I need to start reading and taking notes on the Communist Manifesto so I can write a paper on it.

Lastly, I need to study Rousseau's background and philosophy, because he's the character that I'm playing. Luckily, I need to study him for my Modern Ideologies class anyway.

Oh, I also need to start working on my Civil War project about the camp followers.

Just thinking about all of this makes my head swell near to the point of exploding.

1) I have the flu.

2) I've got a test over 50 Literary Criticism terms tomorrow, as every day.

3) I have a 4 page descriptive essay due in English, in addition to questions covering material in my college book, and reading The Canterbury Tales and Jane Eyre outside of class.

4) We're having another test in Physics, after learning absolutely nothing, as ususal.

5) The next edition of the Maroon Messenger goes to print next week, meaning I will be rewriting most of the staffers' stories in addition to my own.

6) I have to read 40+ page chapters for my Government class every day. I need to start researching my topic for my term paper.

John Milton
Apolelymenon-Milton's term for the monostrophic design of such choruses as those in his Samson Agonistes.
Etc etc.

Descartes
Vorticism-A movement in modern poetry used by Ezra Pound based upon Descartes' term for binomial epistemology. In vorticism abstraction freed the artist from the imitation of nature, and the vortex is energy changed by the poet or artist into form.

Gerard Manly Hopkins
Outride-a slack syllable added to a foot. Since it is unstressed, in Hopkins's system where only stressed syllables determine scansion, it does not change the basic scansion of a line.

Just a taste of what I have to do for Lit Crit. I have to memorize those terms (and a lot more) in addition to which author coined the term.
