Karol Beck, my playasport player, was the first to commit to a tournmanet that is tomorrow... yet, 129 people ended up committing and the draw has 128 places. Because Karol is ranked so low because he just started, he gets kicked out of the draw. That's hardly fair when I committed so early. It also takes one of the tournaments that I'm allowed to play for the year. Not fair.

1. In their lives the Puritans revered miraculous signs of divine intervention. Bradford described a man who taunted sick people aboard the Mayflower, telling them that he could not wait until they died so he could cast them overboard. It turned out that this horribly man would be the only person to be cast overboard during the entire voyage, leading the Puritans to believe that God had intervened to punish this unkind man. Winthrop later gives an account of a mouse that fights and kills a snake. The Puritans believed that the mouse represented them, and the snake represented the devil. There, in the New World, God had given them the power to overcome Satan. Thought they could be interpreted in other ways, the Puritans always saw these unexplainable events as signs that God was indeed in control over his creation.

2. Through her poems to and about her family, Anne Bradstreet describes her role as a Puritan woman. Bradstreet explains her role as a wife in writing a poem to her husband professing her undying devotion. Obviously she felt that it was her duty to love and support her husband in the things he does, and to be there for him when he needed her. It is also made evident in the poems about her children that Bradstreet believed her most important role was that of a mother. Her life revolved around giving birth to and raising her children. From the time they were born until the time they ventured out on their own, it was up to her to take care of them. The home chores were left mostly to the wife, while the civic duties were the husband’s domain.

3. In Mather’s opinion, the outbreak of witchcraft in Salem is caused by the direct influence of the devil. He theorizes that the devil is made angry by the coming of God’s people, the Puritans, to his land. Since the wilderness was so untamed and vast, the Puritans believed that it was in essence the devil’s playground. The encroachment of God-fearing people upset the devil so greatly that he conspired to use his witchcraft and wickedness to drive them out of the area. He set out to use his supernatural forces and legions of evil to scare, torture, and even kill the Puritans in the attempt to wrest them from his land.

4. The story of Rowlandson’s capture makes it clear that there are many misconceptions of one another by the Puritans and the Indians. In the eyes of the Puritans, the Indians are devilish pagans who live completely ruthless and savage lives. However, Rowlandson discovers that this may not exactly be true when some Indians help her during her captivity. One Indian gives her a Bible to read while others often share their food and huts with her. Still, Rowlandson puts this blasphemy of Indian kindness down as the influence of God’s power over them. On the other hand, the Indians believe that the Puritans are inherently weak. They are surprised by Rowlandson’s bravery. Even under the threat of death she stays firm, showing a sign of strength that the Indians believed the Puritans lacked.

what do you think? :D

I personally am not too near where the hurricane is supposed to hit. I live about 30 minutes Southwest of San Antonio, and it looks like it's supposed to hit the Southcentral coast of Louisiana, not Texas. Hi Scott and Ingrid! :D

I am absolutely exhausted right now.... I thought I proved something I needed for work yesterday, but when I ran off from here yesterday, it was cos I found a flaw in the proof and I was up till 5 am trying to fix it.. I couldn't sleep! But, today, I set up a different construction and found something in the library that will take it from there and completely solve the problem, I finally got my theorem! :D :D :bounce: Boss took me out for dinner to celebrate, I've just come back...
