They're standing on court, kissing. Angele 09-26-2002, 08:27 PM Originally posted by KaseyL btw to all the Hayden fans in here :D have you read that hayden will travel less with Lleyton next year? His place will be taken by some other mates.  Ok whoever is operating the cameras at the Ryder Cup opening ceremony needs to be slapped or something   After the ceremony all the players walked out with their girlfriends or wives and they showed ALL the players and wives except Tiger and Elin  What the hell is up with that? :fiery: Murkofan 09-26-2002, 08:28 PM Scotty. When I get rich, I'll give you some money. :p  *pats Angele* There there, don't fret! KaseyL 09-26-2002, 09:57 PM Latest from German media: Kim said that she still suffered from jet-lag, takes her three days Angele 09-26-2002, 09:59 PM http://us.news2.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/p/ap/20020926/capt.1033064882.germany_leipzig_tennis_xlei103.jpg http://us.news2.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/p/ap/20020926/capt.1033064878.germany_leipzig_tennis_xlei104.jpg LEIPZIG, Germany (Reuters) - Title holder Kim Clijsters eased through to the third round of the Leipzig Grand Prix on Thursday by crushing Russia's Nadia Petrova in straight sets. Belgian Clijsters, who is seeded fourth this year and had a bye past the first round, started her quest for a third consecutive triumph in the $585,000 event with a straightforward 6-4, 6-2 victory. "I moved faster on the court and that was the key," said Clijsters, who lost to world number one Serena Williams ( news - web sites) in the final of the Toyota Princess Cup in Tokyo on Sunday. "I have completely recovered from the trip from Tokyo," she added. "I'm feeling great." The 19-year-old world number eight goes on to meet local favorite Barbara Rittner for a place in the semi-finals. The only surviving German, the unseeded Rittner dumped seventh seed Silvia Farina Elia of Italy 4-6, 6-4, 6-3. Russian Anastasia Myskina, the sixth seed, also advanced to the quarter-finals with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 win over Czech Kveta Hrdlickova. World number 12 Myskina will now take on American Meghann Shaughnessy, who knocked out second seed Jelena Dokic of Yugoslavia on Wednesday. Slovakia's Janette Husarova survived two tie breaks to beat American Alexandra Stevenson 1-6, 7-6, 7-6 and set up a third round clash against top seed Serena Williams, who turned 21 on Thursday. KaseyL 09-26-2002, 10:01 PM forgotten to say that this was in her interview today, after the match. she was still tired, she said, as a result of jet-lag. Angele 09-26-2002, 10:02 PM Originally posted by KaseyL Latest from German media: Kim said that she still suffered from jet-lag, takes her three days I've got a different quote in that article i just posted :o KaseyL 09-26-2002, 10:03 PM LOL Angele, the German interview really says something else than this article on Yahoo KaseyL 09-26-2002, 10:04 PM this is the text from German media, from Kim's interview... "Ich war noch etwas müde", erklärte sie, warum sie so schwer ins Match gekommen ist. "Ich bin aus Tokio gekommen, und es dauert schon drei Tage, bis der Jetlag überwunden ist." Angele 09-26-2002, 10:05 PM If I were guessing, I'd say the yahoo article is wrong :o It usually is lol Angele 09-26-2002, 10:06 PM Could you please translate Ingrid lol KaseyL 09-26-2002, 10:06 PM think the Germans have it right, though. Why? as they asked Kim why she had some problems in the beginning of the match. "I was still a bit tired", she explained as the reason why she had some trouble to come in the match. "I came from Tokyo, and it takes three days before the jetlag is gone." It's known as a 'spectator ion' in these sorts of redox reactions. Was this what you meant? I'm supposed to be working on my math at the moment, but I was up late last night and my mind is too fuzzy to do math :o (well, that's my excuse and I'm sticking with it!) pinkie 09-27-2002, 12:18 AM hee hee, allan, i think angele just called you an old fart :D Angele 09-27-2002, 12:18 AM I'm here Allan :p I was just reading Jilli's latest post in the confrontation thread :D I'm working tomorrow :p They gave me the day off today... how generous  Puss-in-Boots 09-27-2002, 12:21 AM Originally posted by pinkie hee hee, allan, i think angele just called you an old fart :D That's OK, .... as long as they don't start offering to help me cross the street, I can live with that! Angele 09-27-2002, 12:21 AM Originally posted by pinkie hee hee, allan, i think angele just called you an old fart :D I did not :p He really is a lot more mature than the rest of us... well maybe except Ingrid and Marly ( who thinks she's actually 45 :p ) Scotso 09-27-2002, 12:22 AM Virginia! The best damn place in the world! :D Puss-in-Boots 09-27-2002, 12:22 AM Originally posted by angele87 They gave me the day off today... how generous  From what I've seen on old posts, your working hours are quite long! Scotso 09-27-2002, 12:23 AM Allan, the FMTT is going okay. Marly and Marie need to commit to events though  pinkie 09-27-2002, 12:24 AM I was just kidding, angele ;) So are you all Kim and Lleyton fans (or just Lleyton)? How did you guys end up in this board? Angele 09-27-2002, 12:24 AM Originally posted by Peedy From what I've seen on old posts, your working hours are quite long! Now that school started up again it's about 15 hours a week... which is still a lot cuz I have to go to school everyday.... but at least I don't have any 12 hour shifts anymore :D Puss-in-Boots 09-27-2002, 12:25 AM LOL, I saw that they signed up!!!! When I saw that, I was tempted to sign up with some obscenely long and untypable name, but I don't know if I could commit to events and if I didn't that would be a bit naughty of me, so I didn't. Angele 09-27-2002, 12:26 AM I'm a huge Lleyton and Kim fan :hearts: :hearts: I've been nicknamed QG ( which stands for Queen Goober) because I'm such a huge fan and such a huge goober :o I really am horrible though lol Peridotpixie 09-27-2002, 12:27 AM Looks like Kim has Rittner instead of Farina Elia tomorrow. Don't know if that's good or bad. Don't know anything about Rittner, she's a WC. But I'm sure that Kim will crush her. Yay, Kim! You go, girl! Pulverize her! There are a couple of pics of Kim playing today on the tournie's website. Also, in case you guys are interested, Henin lost in doubles to pred2. She plays Dani tomorrow in the battle of the scarily skinny people. Here's hoping they somehow BOTH lose. But they probably won't, so I'm pulling for Dani. Serena will crush either one, so it doesn't really matter all that much. All that matters is Kimmy. Peridotpixie 09-27-2002, 12:29 AM Originally posted by pinkie I was just kidding, angele ;) So are you all Kim and Lleyton fans (or just Lleyton)? How did you guys end up in this board? Kim and Lleyton. I love them equally. :) Though I do like other male players as well. I cannot for the life of me remember how I ended up here. I just kind of...did. Static 09-27-2002, 12:31 AM Rittner can be a fiesty one, never under estimate her... Pffff I remember Fed cup Germany vs Russia this year... so painful  Puss-in-Boots 09-27-2002, 12:33 AM welcome back, Ana! Static 09-27-2002, 12:33 AM Anyways erm hi I'm Ana... the Flamey... or the flaming fire breathing frog :o I'm 15 and I'm currently dying in chemistry... somewhere out there in Canada :o I like Kimmy and Lley lley... but Lleyton was the one I first liked so yeah ;) Angele 09-27-2002, 12:33 AM Pfff getting chucked off  I probably won't be back tonight so goodnight all :wavey:  Static 09-27-2002, 12:34 AM Originally posted by Peedy welcome back, Ana! You never know  This Scrubs or whatever show is pretty funny. The guy is hot. Scotso 09-27-2002, 12:36 AM pf Allan :p :wavey: goodnight Angele  Puss-in-Boots 09-27-2002, 12:37 AM Good night, Angele! Sleep well! :wavey: :wavey: :) pinkie 09-27-2002, 12:41 AM math, yuck (sorry, allan). One time in college I had an oral statistics exam (yes, an oral statistics exam). I had no idea what I was doing because I had not bothered to learn the formulas by heart. So I started dividing, multiplying and what else have you with the numbers we were given until I got a result that I tought made sense and then reconstructed the formula accordingly. When I had to explain what I had done, the professor looked me blank in the face and said "You have absolutely no idea what you are saying, do you?" And then he gave me a 10 (out of 100), probably for effort. So don't worry about math, ana. You can't be any worse than me. pinkie 09-27-2002, 12:43 AM good night, angele. Static 09-27-2002, 12:43 AM Well atleast you got marks for effort, that's pretty good :D I'm not getting anywhere really... I'm so bad at math :o Scotso 09-27-2002, 12:46 AM Pinkie  hehe. I'm in liberal arts match. It's so pointless. It can get confusing because you think it's too easy and must be a trick question :p pinkie 09-27-2002, 12:48 AM ok, I'm off to the gym (that ever-elusive quest to get in shape; if I stop getting tired just looked at the treadmill, I know I am getting somewhere). It was lovely chatting with you guys. Good luck with all things math-related. Scotso 09-27-2002, 12:50 AM have fun pinkie :wavey: Puss-in-Boots 09-27-2002, 12:51 AM LOL, to be honest pinkie, I'm not a fan of stats either! :o :wavey: Cya later! Have a good time at the gym! Static 09-27-2002, 12:53 AM Bye bye Pinke :wavey: Have fun at the gym :) Speaking of which... that reminds me of cellular respiration... don't let those pyruvates convert in to lactic acid... or it'll hurt :o Ok I admit it I'm nutz! Scotso 09-27-2002, 12:54 AM I'm not a fan of anything that requires effort. LOL, aren't we all... I'm almost pathologically lazy... when I first started grad school my research was experimental (  ) in nature... and I absolutely hated/detested/loathed/abhorred it... I wouldn't mind putting reactions on, but I couldn't get arsed working them up and isolating the product, don't even get me started on purifying the damn crap and cleaning the bloody glassware afterwards.... After a long period of putting reactions on and leaving them going for months because I couldn't be bothered finishing them off I ditched that project and moved to something computational.... I had two thesis advisers, the experimentalist and the computational chemist.... I am no longer on speaking terms with the experimentalist... wonder why? :p Puss-in-Boots 09-27-2002, 01:02 AM Originally posted by GoLleyt I would make one but that would take effort :p LMAO! Static 09-27-2002, 01:03 AM LoL :D Oh well I think they'll be alright :o Well Allan... if you actually got that far... that means you had some sort of effort :o Puss-in-Boots 09-27-2002, 01:09 AM Speaking of FMTT, I am genuinely interested in it, but I fear I may be loopy and regularly forget to do things I ought to do... so I was thinking... I'll possibly sign up, and post a thread here in LL Lounge for regulars here who are also participating in FMTT, that way, maybe you, Marls, Mazza and I can post and encourage and remind each other to get organized and send in commitments and points and stuff? Do you think that'd work or not? Also, another reason why...in a sense... I only wanna play if people I know play....lolol Scotso 09-27-2002, 01:10 AM good play :p this is frustrating, I hate computers :o lol Allan, grad school  I can't imagine going, but I want the pretty Ph. D. next to my name :D Scotso 09-27-2002, 01:11 AM omg I figured it out :D this makes my day. Peridotpixie 09-27-2002, 01:12 AM Ok, Rittner is feisty, and I'm nervous. So I'll throw in another "Go, Kim!" just to be safe. I wonder if I'll get to follow her match tomorrow before I go home for the weekend... Puss-in-Boots 09-27-2002, 01:14 AM Originally posted by Static LoL :D Oh well I think they'll be alright :o Well Allan... if you actually got that far... that means you had some sort of effort :o Well... I think I made a very bad first choice... I was completely and totally unsuited to labwork. Computational chemistry wasn't much better, booooooooring, just collect lots of data and talk about it. Oh yes, and make pretty, informative diagrams. Sheesh. Lucky I double majored and had math as well, so I've defected, and it suits me a lot more.... just loads of daydreaming and pushing points, lines and symbols around. Scotso 09-27-2002, 01:14 AM When does she play? Peridotpixie 09-27-2002, 01:14 AM Congrats, Scotty! Peridotpixie 09-27-2002, 01:16 AM She plays third tomorow and matches start at 3pm Germany time which I think is 9 am EST. So I'd guess around 12:30 or so EST, and I'm leaving at 1...yeah, that's not looking good. But the second match is Serena, so that ought to be quick. Static 09-27-2002, 01:19 AM Lab work :o I agree that's so boring, especially in chemistry :o Math is yucky too , but your the mathemagician so you have fun :p :D Static 09-27-2002, 01:21 AM Go Kimike :bounce: Kick some arse tomorrow! Puss-in-Boots 09-27-2002, 01:21 AM Originally posted by GoLleyt good play :p this is frustrating, I hate computers :o lol Allan, grad school  I can't imagine going, but I want the pretty Ph. D. next to my name :D If you have the ambition, go for it! Grad school in the humanities would be extremely stimulating intellectually. Extremely strong culture of independence and originality. Sciences.... pff... these days Ph.D's are used as glorified cheap lab assistantships for faculty to get their dirty work done. I contemplated dropping out of grad school so many times, but I had to finish the damn thing so I can apply for permanent residency here so I stuck it out and wrote a damn thesis. It's currently being examined so I'm playing the waiting game... Ironic... the PhD after one's name IS pretty, but after I get it, I'd rather stack shelves at Safeway than do chemistry anymore. Static 09-27-2002, 01:26 AM GO SAFEWAY! The best thing is ... it's everywhere! Thus you'll be part of a global community connected to so many people in the world :D .... ok ... I just said that to sound smart :o Scotso 09-27-2002, 01:26 AM well pfff, I don't want to work... I just want to win the lottery, be a billionaire, spend money, and have a Ph. D. next to my name :D Static 09-27-2002, 01:28 AM Pfff my life long dream is to stalk Marco untill he'll pay me off to stop ... or put a restraining order on me... whichever works :o Puss-in-Boots 09-27-2002, 01:30 AM Originally posted by Static GO SAFEWAY! I learned that the hard way :o ROFLMFAO!!!! :D :D :D :D The craze at the uni I'm at is "microscale" ie. do reactions in tiny quantities to save costs, reduce chemical and solvent waste etc. The drawback of course is that it's much harder to make spectacular explosions on those scales! :p Gawd... experimental work was frustrating enough, but it was a nightmare working in microscale... if you sneezed at the wrong time you'd lose all your effing compound. Scotso 09-27-2002, 01:38 AM I didn't like playing with chemicals. I'm a hypocondriac. Puss-in-Boots 09-27-2002, 01:39 AM Well... I basically developed hayfever cos of constant exposure to sensitizers, so your concerns aren't unfounded Scott.... Static 09-27-2002, 01:41 AM Pfff you can't even burn things... see our school is too cheep to have anything... and because we want to save on safety equipment we have to use products that aren't so... dangerous :o... I think the most dangerous thing we have is the heater... also can work pretty well for ironing clothes :o Puss-in-Boots 09-27-2002, 01:45 AM Gotta go, lunch! :wavey: Cya all Static 09-27-2002, 01:46 AM Have fun :wavey: Scotty  Please shoot me :o Scotso 09-27-2002, 01:50 AM Bye Allan :wavey: With what, Ana? Today he comes home, says hi, then goes to watch TV for 4 hours. Now he's off to do his homework. This is frustrating. Scotso 09-27-2002, 01:54 AM Why would I have a gun? :o I'm morally opposed to violence :p Scotso 09-27-2002, 01:57 AM I'm bored again. Scotso 09-27-2002, 02:00 AM I have so much homework to do this weekend! Ugh! I have to read two chapters for old testament for one of his hard quizes, research Ba'alism ( ), read a section from my english book, start taking notes on the Communist Manifesto, read most of "On Liberty" by Mill, write a 4-page opinion biography on General Custer, do a bunch of minging math, study for some quizes, and lastly take a take-home test for english. What's the point in going to school if all the work/learning I do is out of class? :p Static 09-27-2002, 02:02 AM Technically you can geta ll your education out of a library :o But the pretty little degree makes it so much more :o Scotso 09-27-2002, 02:07 AM Yes but the library is free... pretty little degrees cost a lot of money :p Static 09-27-2002, 02:08 AM This is why it's so sad :o Scotso 09-27-2002, 02:10 AM Anyway it's not like they actually teach you in college what you'll need for your career. It seems like the more realistic goal at this point (as much as I hate to say it) is just to finish Top Ten this year. Peridotpixie 09-27-2002, 02:34 PM Justine wins. She'll stay at number 6 for now, I think. And Serena will smash her into oblivion. GO KIM!! KaseyL 09-27-2002, 02:41 PM a quick hi and bye! :wavey:  :fiery: damn Hantuchova... (sorry Juju fans, if any in here) grgrgrgrgrgr Serena needs to win tomorrow (can't believe I am saying this :o ) x fingers for Kim today! :bounce: GO KIM :bounce: Goonergal 09-27-2002, 03:37 PM Ezel  Got coverage of Pred 2 Vs Janette  Scotso 09-27-2002, 03:43 PM :wavey: GO JANETTE :D Scotso 09-27-2002, 03:43 PM My playasport player upset the first seed in qualifying.... Pfff Pred is in Pink again  2-1 on serve. What's up today Scottie? Scotso 09-27-2002, 03:54 PM Not much, I was sleeping peacefully past 11am when the stupid mailman rang and woke me up. I have work I need to get started on... in a bit :p Goonergal 09-27-2002, 04:07 PM lol! God my Media Studies Module is on Sci-Fi :o  Our homework-make of it what you will :o :p How far does the Alien Threat in ----------- act as a metaphor for American Hegemonical Fears? :o :p In the blank space we have to fill in a Sci-fi Film  So I'll have to watch some today and tomorrow  FUN! lmao! X-Men is on 2nite so i'll have to watch that, Stargate too and the terminator is on tomorrow so I'll have to write the essay on Sunday :o Our media teacher wants the essay typed up, double spaced, 14 Font and Arial :o :p It has to be in by Monday and 1000 words! pfffffff! Murkofan 09-27-2002, 04:09 PM X-Men :D I had to write a 3 page narrative essay for my college English class this week. I hate narratives. :p I'll post it when I get home later, and y'all have to tell me what y'all think. :p Scotso 09-27-2002, 04:10 PM That's a stupid topic, lmao. 1000 words on it? Good luck! :p X-Men doesn't have Aliens.... does Terminator? :p You should watch the Critters movies and uhm... Alien. :p Scotso 09-27-2002, 04:12 PM Writing about me is easy, I just hate when I have to research and write about someone else :p X-Men is a good movie though :D Narrative tells a story, eh? Tell about your sexcapades. Scotso 09-27-2002, 04:14 PM Ugh so much homework  I'll tell you what... I'll switch with one of you guys. You write my opinionated biography of General Custer and I'll write your paper :D Murkofan 09-27-2002, 04:15 PM The movie was good, but personally I like the comics more. I'm an X-Men addict. :o :p I can't tell about my sexcapades, as it's supposed to be a TRUE narrative. :p I described the difficulties of publishing a school newspaper. It's more interesting than it sounds, trust me. :p Murkofan 09-27-2002, 04:16 PM I'm not gonna switch with you, I already wrote my paper. :p An opinionated biographer of Custer? Er......he was a dumbass. :p Scotso 09-27-2002, 04:19 PM Yeah my teacher hates him so I decided to do him and rip him a new one so I'll get an A. I was so obsessed with the X-Men as a kid. I have tons of their comics and I have like every cartoon episode on tape :D Murkofan 09-27-2002, 04:21 PM Did I ever mention our bug problem? They're everywhere. Crickets and those nasty little stinkbugs. They climb up the rough brick on the sides of the school and hang there, clinging. And then they get up into the lights and short them out, and then get into the air conditioning vents and dive bomb out onto your head. They hop around and wriggle their way into your bag, so when you reach in to get something, they crawl on you with their nasty, scratchy little legs. Every step you take, you crunch a bug. The sound and the smell haunts my dreams. And the sad thing is, I haven't exaggerated any of that. They're everywhere. | |
