It will start on February 7th, and David will be playing here along with Henman, Johansson, Robredo and Hrbaty among others. Since Coria withdrew, he'll be seeded second :)

Being second seeded is good. I think he has a good chance to make a good tournament there.
And I believe his confidence must be high.
Let's just hope he can recover well from all the "fights" he had in AO.
He spent too much time in court, and all his matches were long and exausting.
But he said he was feeling good so..

Vamos David!!

Don't worry girls - I have good seats in Marseille :) and I promise I'll cheer David on lots and lots :clap2: I think there is a danger he may feel "flat" after the Asutralian Open defeat, but there are 10 days before Marseille which is plenty of time to recover.

He spent too much time in court, and all his matches were long and exausting.

it's just because his tennis style. He played a lot of long rallies when against Coria and Hewitt. I just found his approaching net is much fewer than last year indoor hardcourt season. Maybe he think Coria and Hewitt both have excellent defending, and it could be a lot of risk if approaching net more. And if you want to watch a short match, just for example of Roddick against Rusedski :p both big servers.

I heard Coria has to rest for at least 3 weeks because his injury. Is that real?
Good luck to David in Marseille :yeah:

Looking briefly at the players appearing at this event I honestly think David has an excellent chance of winning the whole thing this time for you. :p Will be very interested to learn if he can build on some of the form he showed in the latter stages of the Hewitt match. If he plays like that, he wins. ;)

Ah that sucks any ideas when she will be back? I've liked Paola for years and love watching her and Vivi play in the women's doubles... they are a sweet team and their matches are always a lot of fun. Sad I couldn't see them in Melbourne. Anyway sorry for straying off topic here for a moment.

Well, if you read the Clarin interview in the Articles and Stuff thread, David says he's very confident to face the next tournaments :) Let's hope the blisters don't bother him too much, but I doubt they will be a problem. I mean, after all, he played 3 tournaments last year with a broken toe
And everyone thought that Paola was gonna go to Australia, the press found out about her withdrawal when the draw was out. I think she try to be cautios and not rush anything, I guess she'll be back soon :)

Yes I know I'm lucky Ceci :) - though you know how bad I am at reports - not so good as GWH - he has made me feel guilty this time - it's not always so easy to get access to computers when I'm away though as I don't have a lap-top anymore

But I promise I will do my best - and this Blonde girl will be cheering on our Blonde boy as much as I can :)

As to your question Claudia - I don't know for sure what he will do, but I can't see him going back to Argentina for just 10 days because of all the flying and jet lag involved. I assume that he'll try to get quickly to Europe to eliminate the jet lag symptoms, and then maybe stay in Spain or Italy for a few days where I know he has friends. I honestly don't know for sure though.

Someone posted it on .net. It's supposedly on some "injury List" somewhere but I don't know what or where. Ah yes - I forgot about Brad Gilbert  - which reminds me- totally off-topic - I dreamt about Andy Roddick last night  - he was playing in the Wimbledon Final and he got beaten over 5 sets by my Boss, Kevin! Hate to be the "prophet of doom" here but I'm still not convinced there isn't some truth in that original rumour. The original post in .net was from a girl in Argentina who said she "listened" to the news about the injury, which makes me think she may have heard it on local TV or radio. Her English is not good so I'm sure she doesn't visit the web-site where we found the old injury news - I had never heard of that particular web-site before so I doubt she visits it regularly. In my usual pessimistic manner I will remain pessimistic until I hear definate news from David (or anyone closely connected) that he will play.

i don't know, he showed the blisters in later stage of potato's match when that potato also made medical call. Those blisters look terrible, but seems his movement wasn't effected in that match. He is not the one who likes to show injury pain, but that doesn't mean it is not serious. Anyway, i keep optimistic as ususal.

Rosie, she admitted that her "report" came from the lnternet-the tournament site as a matter of fact. We know that the site is not updated to reflect current information. I'm sure she didn't mean to alarm anyone, so we have nothing to worry about unless something really happens.

There's no news about it, I don't know if he's in France already, but I guess he's in Europe. I don't see the point of staying in Australia when he has to get use to the temperature and the time difference. I highly doubt he's in Argentina.

My own feeling is that he is somewhere in or near Milan - where I know he has spent European time off before - I think he must have friends (maybe even some family?) there. It's in the same time zone as Marseille so he can recover from the jet lag, and there's a tournament going on there so he wouldn't be short of practice partners if need be.

This link is to an article in "La Nacion" this morning - I am not posting or translating it because it's mainly to do with Coria and the treatment for his latest injury and is pretty much irrelevant here, but in one line in this article it says David is now training in Milan :) Perhaps I'm telepathic? Isn't Marseille nice? I've always had the idea it was a great city.

Well Choupi tells me there are some nice parts of Marseille and I'm sure there are, - but when I've been there in the past it's just a big, dirty, industrial city with docks  I don't like it as a city at all (Rotterdam is much nicer) - but I've heard the venue is nice and my Hotel is meant to be in a nice area, - so I'll be fine.

And thanks for the good wishes Bibi :)

So after our conversations last night - just to prove that I am always right  - David IS now confirmed to be in Milan and training there, and there seems to be no problem about Marseille next week :) . This link is to an article in "La Nacion" this morning - I am not posting or translating it because it's mainly to do with Coria and the treatment for his latest injury and is pretty much irrelevant here, but in one line in this article it says David is now training in Milan :) Perhaps I'm telepathic? Anyway - here's the link for those who want to read it:-

thanks for the news Rosie.. Good to hear he is ok and have a lot of fun next week!

I wanted to go to the beach, but they finally convinced me to go to Cordoba cause there was a tennis court in the hotel :) I'm going to Carlos Paz, which is a beautiful city and if the weather is nice, I'm sure is gonna be great!Have a lot of fun too Jazz! Ok guys, I just talked to the person that posted in .net and she said that she heard those rumors from a msn David group. Apparently the mod there, said that he had a knee injured and he wasn't gonna play in Marseille and Rotterdam to recover for the DC...We know that's BS.

Apparently they were even saying that he wasn't even gonna play in the DC...But if there were something wrong with David, all the media would be talking about this, and we know it! I mean, Coria just had a contraction (sp???) and the press was all over it saying that he wasn't gonna play for 3 weeks, and now we know he's gonna play in Marseille, so until we don't hear anything from a reliable source, or at least from a source, we shouldn't worry at all ;)

Remember they were saying that in 04? Well, again, someone over there is not giving updated information. That needs to be looked at. The .net site is more updated than the msn one for sure. And Coria's current injury is not a "contraction". Just goes to show you how updated that site is. Please don't worry.

Yes - and if he was that injured he wouldn't be in Milan he would have gone home, or to Barcelona where the Doctor is - and the Press would have got news of that straight away like they did with Coria. Guess someone must have told them he was in Milan.

Well - yes - I agree his wife is very beautiful - a really beautiful girl - and - no - "footballish" isn't actually word - but it's OK - I know exactly what you mean :)

I also agree that he's a good player - but despite all this, and whatever the reasons - I just can't take to him at all  His manner and attitude irritate me - as you say - maybe he does have an attitude that is not exactly "gentlemanly" or sporting and doesn't fit in with the tennis people. i remember it is said that the main goal they play doubles together in other tourneys is they can practise doubles more for DC and even Olympics in the future. Now if Coria isn't seriously injured, they may play doubles in Marseille this time, then why the DC doubles high possibility is still David-Willy or David-Gaston pair?

Oh Rosie- I couldn't agree with you more. His manners are questionable. It's sad because I think he's very talented, but rubs me the wrong way. And it doesn't have anything to do with me being a Gaston fan. I just find Coria's presence on court to be abrasive. He's got enough talent that he doesn't have to use any shady tactics.

Yeah, but if they play together in the DC it won't be until the next round, cause now they don't have enough practise and they're saying that the doubles will be between David and Cañas or David and Gaudio. Apparently David won't be one of the singlist this time, or at least not in the first two matches.

I think it's because Gaston and Coria are both better clay court players than David - so he will be saved to play his singles on the faster courts like Australia in the 2nd round (possibly Willy too I think), so they'll only play doubles here. Argentina are very fortunate in DC - they have so many talented payers to choose from - so they can share the matches around a bit and give everyone chances and experiences. I would love to see David play doubles with Willy sometime, but I guess it won't be in Marseille as Willy plays in Buenos Aires that week.

David can beat anyone with his eyes closed and his hands tied behind his back if he can improve the serve and stop thinking ahead of himself. I believe he could've won that match against Hewitt if he concentrated more on getting the ball in play instead of going for the outright winner, or playing "chicken" on the important points.

Don't worry George, he'll be beat Hewitt in the DC ;) (That's what I'm praying for  )

That would be good if he could it especially on grass.

David can beat anyone with his eyes closed and his hands tied behind his back if he can improve the serve and stop thinking ahead of himself. I believe he could've won that match against Hewitt if he concentrated more on getting the ball in play instead of going for the outright winner, or playing "chicken" on the important points.

Interesting analysis, and I would be so hard on him to improve his serve at least place it better or get some spin on it. That was a tough match and he actually played quite a good 5th set there, but too many errors at 30 all isn't getting the job done.

Then there was Basel as well, but he'll get over this hump.

I'm with you on the serve. An improved serve would allow him to get some cheap points rather than rely on his opponent's shit service to earn him an advantage. He plays great defense, don't get me wrong, but the bigger points are won on offense. JMHO!!!

According to a post in the tournament thread here, Coria is now definately OUT of both Marseille and Rotterdam, so that would make David Number 1 seed in Marseille  I don't know where this poster is getting her information from, but she writes under an Argentine flag - so perhaps TV or radio there. Do you know anything Jazz?

I don't think Rainer will be easy Nova. I saw him on TV yesterday against Stepanek - and he seemed to be playing better than he was at the end of last year. I'm actually more worried about him than Pim Pim, because David handles big servers like Pim Pim, Ljubicic, Ancic etc better than the trickier players like Schuettler, Ferrer, Coria etc. in my opinion.

ah, that's even worse :( i don't have any chance of watching match from Rainer this year, coz he was out in AO early. And just from some stats of his matches, it's a fact Rainer is going down, though i like him.
But after beating Ferrer and Coria in line, and lost a very close match to Hewitt, David should have more confidence to handle this kind of players. Maybe 1st round will be a little tough for him, but i believe he can pass it! yeah, i am always optimistic :D

:yeah: And I am naturally pessimistic - so I hope you're right!!! I'm just haunted by the Basel match when David was somethng like a set and 0-3 down at one stage as I recall  And I'm already resigned to the fact that I will have no dinner that night  as they're almost certainly going to be the last match on court.

yeah, we all remember that match in Basel!! it's an unbelievable match, most of us followed the s/b, and once thought he couldn't win it when 0-3 down at that time! But he did it!! :yeah:
Later, I watched that match video, and should admit Rainer played very well, especially in the former stage. But David beated him finally, even with his injury.:yeah: It definitely can bring the positivity to him for playing Rainer again this time. Let's just wait and see. He always does good job in European tourneys. :D

I just read in the Vina Del Mar score thread that Rosie will be leaving for Marseille in the morning. Have fun!!! Cheer loud enough for all of us :D.

I had thought that David was supposed to play Bs As. Or was that all just speculation at the beginning of the year . Or maybe I am confusing Gaston's schedule with David's

I was surprised to see Guille in the draw. I just read on Tennis Week yesterday that, according to his own website, he pulled out. Marseille has me all confused

Personally - I don't care  as long as David's there! I noticed they're not in the doubles draw as a team though. I'll keep in touch as and when I can - I saw on the Net yesterday that my Hotel has a pretty good business centre so hopefully there will be Internet connection there - but probably really expensive so won't be on for long! Hi all - just popping in to say I am here in Marseille - the keyboard here in this Business Centre is completely different from the English ones I'm used to so I'm going to blame any typing errors on that and not the alcohol I shall consume later! Had quite a shit journey so very tired now - just a few drinks (maybe only one as I'm tired!) and nothing so much to report yet. The Hotel is nice - Marseilles remains as shit as I remembered it - definately not the kind of place for a woman to wander around alone - especially one with blonde hair!!! GWH - please don't laugh - I need my protectors here to look after me!!! The bearded German in Basel was a breeze in comparison - even the taxi driver tried to chat me up and asked me out and he was not a pretty sight!!For some unknown reason he seems to think I'm a tennis coach!!!! Will let you know any other news when I have it - Bjorki - you may be interested to know I have just seen Pim Pim! Oh yes - and the smileys don't work on this keyboard! What will I do without a friendly little devil to illustrate my posts!? Bye for now. Oh and by the way - David doesn't play tomorrow so I can spend the day in bed - but don't worry - NOT with any of the strange taxi drivers round here!!!!!

As you will know now - David does not play til tomorrow so I have another day to laze around and chill out! I saw David this morning - Vicky is here now - think she got here last night. He is fine and spoke to me and Vicky is lovely - she looks much more beautiful in person than in photos, but mostly she seems like a really nice and natural person and she and David look good together :) l think it's good that he has someone to give him some stability and security in his life at this time. I get the impression that although there may be others, she is THE ONE for him and I am really happy for him :) She's a really classy lady and good luck to them both. I wanted to give him our condolences for his Father but the time didn't seem right and I didn't want to be too pushy and talk about private things too much, but I spoke to Eduardo about it so I'm sure he will pass the wishes on to him. By the way - according to Eduardo I am their "Good Luck Charm" - LOL!! Not sure if that's an honour or something too stressful to think about!! Anyway - I plan to go to the city today and look at the shops - try not to spend too much money though!!

Bonjour mes amis :wavey: Comment allez-vous? OK - that's enough Francais for now :) Here is my latest up-date from sunny Marseille.

Talk to you all later - and nice to see you again Haj.
That is soooo nice Rosie!!! Thanks a lot for the report!
I've been missing them :)

Sure you will! As for me I work in real estate business. This is a diverse job and contact with people is very important in this work.

At the university, they are just now offering real estate classes for people to take. Not that I would be interested, because I'm not much of a salesperson, but I've heard from many people that they would like to do it.

Any idea at what time will David play tomorrow? (Argentina time)

Well, 7 PM in Marseille is 10 AM for me in California so I guess that's 3 PM for you, right? Does the Marseille website have a live SB?

Greetings from sunny Marseille :wavey: which is so warm and sunny I have bought all the wrong clothes with me and feel constantly too hot!!! And hi Jazz - how is/was Cordoba?

OK -well today I met David's new Fitness Trainer for the first time - yes another new one! His name is Mariano (sorry, don't know a surname), and he is GORGEOUS :hearts: Dark hair, blue eyes, aged about 30 - I could easily fall in love with him though I don't think it's possible to be in love with ALL of Team Nalbandian at the same time............might damage my reputation  He's a very nice guy though and didn't laugh at my Spanish which most people seem to!!! Eduardo says I need to go to Argentina to learn it properly as I learnt in England which means I speak the real Spanish Spanish (does that make sense?), which is very different from the one spoken in South America so I'm told!!! I still seem to be their "lucky charm" at the moment - but let's see what happens if he loses tonight

Saw David briefly - he seems happy and was talking about rally cars which do seem to interest him far more than tennis!!

The match starts at 7.00pm here so don't know if I'll have a chqnce to get online after as I'm not sure what time the Business Centre here closes - maybe have to wait for tomorrow.

Anyway - bye for now and love from Marseille :)

Oh - and one more thing...........the Masters is in Shanghai this year isn't it? They seem to think it's in Beijing which is slightly worrying
