I watched him go through qualifying and he was pretty impressive.

Of course, qualifying and main draw, those are two different things ;) It sounds like Juan Carlos wants to end his year at the Master's Cup, so I think he'll do quite well against Thomann :D

Leo7
10-24-2002, 01:49 AM
you're right hackie. he is very determined and no one can stop him, Thomann included. ;)

Thanks for the play-by-play, Mrs. B. It sounds like he brought out the crosscourt passing shots (my faves! :D) and the drop shots were working for him on carpet?! Amazing!!

I didn't think it was possible to adore him any more than I already do . . . but wow!! :sigh:

GOOD LUCK, JUANQUI!!! Play your best!!

GOOD LUCK, JUANQUI!!! Play your best!!

Those drop shots indoors were deadly. 4 of them. But it's not carpet, more like rubberized thin linoleum...

But James Blake's match was great too. Too bad for Ferrer who tried his best but James is really awesome. Those giant forehands and that offensive backhand is something else, huh?

:D Wow Mrs. B.!

Those pix are gynormous!!

So... who's playing better? Juanqui or Rogi??? Sounds like they're both playing better than last week in Madrid. Juanqui's quite determined this week, isn't he?? Good for him! And Rogi? He has the crowd and is very motivated, I'm sure.

I just don't want Roddick to get ahead of them!! Pls, James, for once, just beat Andy!!!! Pretty please!!

Nice you "met" James! I wanted to talk to him in TO and call him "Modelito"!!

Nacho

If I'm not mistaken Juanqui plays Mantilla next, a player he has always defeated, so he has lots of chances to reach yet another SF :D VAMOS FERRERO!!

i definitely think Juanqui can win the title this week but it won't be easy. in the Quarters tomorrow Ferrero will face his compatriot Felix Mantilla, who has had some good hard court results this year including a final in Indy. after that it could be a rematch with Gonzo in the Semis. Juan Carlos just lost to Fernando in straight sets at the Open, so Juanqui will have to play his best to get past that challenge. and then in the finals it's Timmy, Andy, or Roger!

vamos mosquito. you can do it. ;) :bounce:

oh no. another re break for a 1-5 lead.

Juanqui is so tentative with his shots, and Gonzo's lucky with some bh returns which lands on the corners of the baseline...

Gonzo was on a roll, served aces, hit strongly on both sides...
Juanqui had 3 break points on that last game but wasn't able to close it...

:( Oh well, at least he got a set off of Gonzo--Juanqui's improving against him. Just wish he wouldn't lose his nerve when the pressure's on!

The good news is, Youhzny beat Voltchkov 64 63 (?).

On to ROGI board....:)

Well, I just saw the news :( Not what I wanted to hear to start off my day, but I feared it would happen

But we have to look on the bright side, at least he got a set. That's a start!! It took him, what, four or five? meetings in the pros to finally defeat Safin, so he's well on his way against Gonzo. He'll have his number soon enough.

Juanqui done well in Basel, despite the lost. He must be dead tired by now. Take a good rest and get ready for Paris. Good luck, Juanqui.
