A Star is Born....

And his name is Feliciano Lopez

Watching the match between himself and DoubleHead (aka Agassi ;) was a joy to me! Really though the scoreline of 7-6(5),6-7(10)7-5 says it all. I have rarely been impressed by a relative newcomer (Well he's a newcomer to me) He showed no fear, nothing to lose. He has an unbelievable serve and a wondeful forehand and backhand. Some of the winners on both wings were amazing! :) I really think he is one for the future and I hope he can kick on from here and fufil his obvious potential :) And I'm sure DoubleHead will acknowledge him in his post match interview :) The match was the best of the week by far and the inagural Madrid Masters is a joy to watch the quality of Matches, Moya Vs Gonzalez, JCF Vs Niemenem, Corretja Vs Kafel, Novak Vs Moya and so on. & I am grateful for the coverage I get. :bounce:

I agree, all the matches have been great, and as you, I CAN'T COMPLAIN! Je je.
And oh yeah! That match of Feliciano was great, he still being young, and has a great future in my opinion.

Feliciano had been dreaming of this match since he was a kid, because he's always admired Agassi. He knew he had nothing to lose, so he played his best tennis :)

IMO he is very different to the other spaniards, because his game depends basically on his powerful serve (that's why he's been the best spaniard this year at wimbledon)

why is Agassi called "double-head"? is it bec he has two bald "heads" (wink, wink) or is there another reason?

and which of his "heads" is hanging in shame right now? ;) ;)

Ferrero vs Nieminen is definitely one of my all-time favorite matches, and not just because it involved two of my favorite players ;) Jarkko has shown is own huge potential, and I think he has a great chance to defend is points next week and maybe win his first title!

At any rate, congrats to Feliciano for giving Agassi a great match. I'm sure I'll see highlights of it tomorrow, and that it will haunt Agassi forever on ESPN ;)

Yep you were right 1st time TC (wink ;)) And I don't think any of his "heads" are hanging in shame at this present time ;)

Damn, I told Rebecca Feliciano would kick Agassi´s ass, and I was *almost* right.

I was amazed when I got to see his two first matches. He should have done even better than that. A shame he got Agassi on his draw.

I agree with L´s C, he is someone to watch.

Wow, it's been a year since I made this thread  I watched Lopez beat Moya today in another thrilling match to get to the quarters :D

So, a year on how do y'all rate Feliciano's progress? He needs to stop rushing on the big points though, too many double faults in his matches so far at TMS Madrid this year.

thanks for beating Moya :)

I have to be honest... a year ago, I didn't think he would ever be much better than a solid top 50 floater capable of the occasional upset. I was obviously about 30 ranking spots off.

My favourite thing about Lopez is his ability to make so called tennis pundits looks like tools; simply because he's Spanish, almost ALL of them automatically associate him with his worst surface statistically - clay (actually, it's carpet, but he's played a limited number of matches on carpet). For that, I love him

(would it kill them to do their fucking research? It takes not 2 minutes to find that info on tenniscorner!)

Feli  So close, with more experience on the big points he could've pulled it out, but meh. Congrats on a great week. Perhaps I'll bump this thread in another year's time :p

Well she was dead right about the serve - he was hitting it beautifully that day, indoor conditions at altitude undoubtedly helped but Agassi wasn't really close to breaking until he did so in the penultimate game of the match.

I have to admit, though, his backhand winner (singular) certainly was amazing, as it was his only one of the match. Even then it was obvious that he could do nothing but slice off that wing, yet during one rally in the first set he suddenly ripped a stupendous topspin winner cross-court that caught everyone by surprise, including himself it would seem.

:haha: The best part of this thread is the "DoubleHead" reference. :tape:

That was one of Agassi's nicknames back in the day, I never understood why - obviously the Double is from "Double A", but the head.... yes, it's bald, but there ain't two of 'em. I always preferred "The Four-Cornered Kissing Bandit", a memorable moniker indeed.
