Tough first round.

Well, it's 1-0 US already b/c of doubles. Between Andre and Roddick, I'd be surprised if they couldn't muster two wins. Still, I'm looking forward to a good match

Yeah, I know. Plus, Mario and Ivan are obviously playing really well right now.

Still, I think Bryans take doubles. I think Croatia might upset in a match or two if they're not tired from recent tournaments, but I can't see them winning three singles. Either way, I'm looking forward to watching a good tie :)

Did you just start watching tennis last week? Agassi took Roger to five hard-fought sets at USO last year and yes, even inferior players like Roddick also took a set off Roger at Wimby last year too. How dare he.

Anyhoo, BEST OF LUCK TO USA!!!! :aparty:  I'm so excited, this is it! This has to be our year! :bounce: We have an awesome team and all the "intangibles" are on our side. It's a good thing Mario and Ivan didn't win their finals last week, otherwise they'd be more trouble than they already are. :scared: But it's Mario I'm most concerned about. Ivan just has a big mouth.

I dont see why Ivan cannot beat Roddick or Agassi. He has played Federer really close lately, much closer then Roddick will ever. Andy Roddick is no Roger Federer and if Ivan can hang with him then there is no reason he wont with Andy.

Hmmm.....I don't see your reasoning. Everyone knows that without those rain delays at Wimbledon Roddick would have won because he was blowing Roger off the court. Ljubicic hasn't been blowing Roger off the court.

This line of reasoning does not work. Tennis is not geometry or algebra, the transitive property does not apply.

It's rare here that it ever rains all day. Let's hope it's a scattered thing that just passes through. The forecasts are for "scattered showers" meaning some places will see showers and some places might not see anything at all. Everyone do a dance to the no-rain gods, ok?

Of course, today is gorgeous, 68 degrees and partly sunny.

I'm just really hopeful that Friday's play gets completed on Friday. It's a very bad weekend for me and I can't afford time to go back on Saturday but I am dying to see these few matches *fingers and toes crossed*

"Rare to rain here all day"...Deb! You're giving off false impressions about L.A.

You've been living here this entire winter, right? It's been the worst winter in the 4 years that I've lived here.

Anyway...I don't watch the news so I didn't know that rain was possible. I know that I saw clouds come in before the sun set.

I'm sort of looking forward to this Tie tomorrow. Only because I know (or at least hope) that Ivan & Mario won't roll over. Wel, I know that Ivan won't :yeah:

If only I knew that Goran was the assistant coach...I would've made the 30 minute trek out to Carson to see if I could've got on site for practices. Oh well

Arcadion, blame Deb. :p It's more of our usual fun regarding Andy and how certain MTFers always trash him no matter what he does.

HAHAHAHA great idea, nice one! I'd like a picture of Roddick hugging Federer or Roddick smiling to Agassi/Federer after losing to him, with the word "Arrogance" across it. hehehe. And as for your avatars, haha yep, clearly, what a jerk.

Only chance Croatia have is to win both today's matches. USA will win double rubber and there is no way they will lose both matches last day.

Ivan vs Andre Agassi to open, 4.3.2005.
Ivan and Andre Agassi will play opening match of the Davis Cup's first round tie between USA and Croatia today at 10 p.m. CET. Mario Ančić will face Andy Roddick in the second match of the day.

Winner of eight Grad Slam titles against quadruple ATP finalist this season, and three in a row. Ivan saw Agassi's form in Dubai, he even wanted to play him, but it wasn't meant to be. So, they'll play each other five days later.

- Agassi doesn't run for every single ball any more. Not even at return if the ball is close to the line. But once the rally starts, he's as dangerous as ever. He moves one, two steps inside the court and starts dictating tempo – says Ivan, who's glad to see Agassi back in USA team.

- I always long to play against the best. If you're professional, a true athlete, you want to play against the best of the best, that's what's the best in sport. I'm truly happy that Andre is back in Davis Cup. It's a big deal for tennis as a sport, for American tennis, ITF and Davis Cup. For everybody. Andre is a great player and I'll enjoy the match.

Ivan also added:

- Americans are favorites. Things could change if we win both rubbers today. I've been playing good tennis in the last couple of months and I'm quite confident. But, I repeat, we're not favorites. Roddick played great until his injury, Andre was good in Dubai. This will definitely be the best first round tie. Besides, Mario is also in great shape. I think it'll be very interesting.

American journalist Charles Bricker compared Ivan to boxer Jake LaMotto considering what Ivan went through in his life. "The man keeps coming back, no matter the punches he takes. With 25 he went through a lot"…

Ivan and Andre third time. They are tied at 1-1.

raining up here (I'm about 30 minutes, maybe 20 miles north of Carson)... but it's only 6am, I suppose.... I know, Katherine, I thought about that when I posted last night. Worst winter in 115 years I read. This is ridiculous. And annoying, since yesterday was nice.

If it rains like this steadily all day there will be no tennis and I will be really screwed.

Considering the weather, they'll have to let us in with bags... good idea for the rag - I already had the umbrella and 2 jackets but I think i'll stick a cloth in there too.

I watched all the different news stations this morning and they all said pretty much the same thing. these early morning showers will end mid-morning - they are the moisture BEFORE the actual front that's moving in and that front will be heavier rain starting this afternoon. It's just very unclear how isolated and how scattered the showers from that system will be. All we can do is hope that it will be on and off and allow the tennis to get in.

Everyone needs to keep praying and dancing to the no-rain gods.
