Let's talk about 2005!

Return to a tennis thread...the main subject! ;)

So what do you think?...He'll do well or very well?

Can he win another slam this year? Which one?

Can he beat Roger?...Can he be beaten by Andy? :o

.............

I think Safin will improve during 2005 and will emerge as Federer's main rival! Hewitt and Roddick clearly have no chance against him so it could be up to Safin I feel :) I think if he has a good clay court season then he will finish as world number 2.

Bea, where's your avatar from?
Safin will be #2 in 2005, if he stays focused and doesn't get injured. :D

He's going to win Wimbledon!

He's going to win Wimbledon!

hehe I wouldn't go that far :p But I hope Safin does put in a better effort on grass than he did this year.

My av is from Miami 2004...not from caribbean 2004 ;)
correction: probably from 2002.

I think he can win Roland Garros next year, if he stays focused during the two weeks...and without "blisters" injury.
He can play well on clay...and he likes so much the tournament...FO + Bercy (in the pocket)...He'll be the king of Paris.

I'm not sure about Roger but I think that FO will be his main goal next year... hard...very hard.

11-30-2004, 09:38 PM
I'd like to see Marat win Roland Garros, but I know it's hard , have a lot great players on clay like Ferrero, Moya, Guga etc... But I still believe !

MissPovaFan

I'm not sure about Roger but I think that FO will be his main goal next year... hard...very hard.

hmmm I dont think Federer will win it - if he struggled like he did against Kuerten then I dont fancy his chances to be honest.

Bibir

We know Roger can play very well on clay...And this year he struggled against a perfect gustavo...really motivated by the "almost home" crowd.

Quick question: What caused those blisters??

And, I, too, believe he will be #2 in 2005!

You crack me up, Ilhame! I think I would have to worship Peter a god if that happens.

Important to not have such deep lows as last year and I'm confident he won't, although oafish hiccups can surely happen but not for long.
Roland Garros ... yeah that would be The One for sure.

I have to get back on this.

[btw Bea, that pic is from before 2004, not?]

I have been lurking Marat's forum for a couple of weeks now, time to post ;)

I think 2005 will be a great year for Marat (God willing with no injuries) since he ended this one on such a high note. :) He has good chances at AO, RG, and USO, so he could definitely take one home. I personally think he will be the best rival for Federer, and that him and Andy will have a great matches as well. :D

PennyThePenguin

In Paris he said he doesn't know, had never happened to him before (blisters like these), it was very strange indeed. I don't know if they found out something later. It might have been something that caused some allergic reaction or something.... or just from sweating and suddenly playing so much.... who knows. He has pretty delicate skin it seems.

I think 2005 will be a great year for Marat and he can finish the year at Number 2. I think he has a great chance of winning the Australian Open to start the New Year well :)

I really think Marat can win Wimbledon one day. We all know that when Marat sets his mind on things, then he's dangerous. He has a big serve, he can volley and Lleyton proved that you can win Wimbly without playing serve and volley, so there is hope. If Peter talks to Marat and makes him realise he shouldn't give up on grasscourt tennis, then he'll do fine. He has made it to the quarters there before and lost a tight 4 setter to Goran, something he definitely shouldn't be ashamed of and something that wasn't just a LUCKY thing.

Kiara
12-01-2004, 12:13 PM
the "i cant play on grass" thing is an "all in the head" thing ;)

Ilhame you're right, he has a great game for grass, heck, with a half decent draw he might even win. and besides it's nonsensical to say that he doesnt have a chance to win wimbledon after having made the quarters...

I totally agree, too shame he himself doesn't think so. Maybe Peter will be able to convince him oterwise. Marat seems to trust Peter a lot, besides he coached JesusFed to his 1st Wimby title so I hope Marat will be convinced he can do the same. That would be awesome, wouldn't it!!!! :worship: :worship:

Great thread Bea :p.

Anyway, I think Marat will do very well next year. I think he can beat Federer, he's got a huge chance.
I'm not sure whether he'll win RG next year, JC will be back next year... so...
Australian Open on the other hand... great chance! GO MARAT!

I am dreaming a Hippo-Guga RG final. (but if it really happens, I do not know who I will support... :p )
still, I hope he could win AO, which is my fav tournament.
I agree with Ilhame. Marat will win Wimbley one day. why not! :rocker:

he's always played Rotterdam for as long as I can remember, except for last year, he should play it anyway, it's worth way more points and money than Marseille no?.

lol! at that schedule...is Marat planning to take a break at all before RG ;) ?

:o WTC is pointless, and no one cares.

I think its a smart scedule. Marat has always been criticiced for playing too many tourneys, but this time he planned the scedule together with Peter, who also said before that Marat will play less tourneys in 2005.

:o WTC is pointless, and no one cares.

I do :p (will attend the tourney, and finally after 2 years Russia will play here again)

Kiara
12-03-2004, 03:14 PM
good for you :p

wtc is not pointless I take that back, but the scheduling of it is a tad dumb. However, it's a fun event/playing for your country/good preparatin for RG and blah blah blah, and im glad Russia qualified this time around :yeah:

I fail to see how playing 7 tournaments back to back is smart  anyway thats just and estimate (or a guesstimate... if you consider the source)

According to the guesstimate, he's playing 's-Hertogenboschendenegenen, so Ilhame can propose to him then, if he doesnt go to Rotterdam ;)

I've liked Marat since earlier this year and I always meant to post here, but I was a bit afraid(still am kinda cause I'm kinda shy sometimes). After some pushing from someone, I'm gonna post now. :) Now, I'm gonna stop sounding like an idiot. lol
I really think Marat is gonna do great in 2005. He really did improve this year and he's most likely to give almost everyone, including Roger maybe, a run for their money. Really hope it happens cause he has a great game and he deserves it. :)

Dinara-

"Did Marat give you something on your last birthday?"

- "No. He generally does not have the habit to make gifts. Only for the New Year's Eve. In the childhood my brother gave me a golden ring with a heart. And last year – a necklace with a small diamond."

- "Do you often see your brother or only on the telephone?"

- "No, he flies often to us. One week before Sopot he came to us."

- "He wanted to support you?"
- "Actually he had to go to the dentist..." ()

- "But did he say to you something before such a tournament?"

- "He said: "Relax, sister. Play and get your pleasure!""

- "Do you throw your rackets like your brother?"

- "Yeah, but rarely. I try to control myself..."

- "Forgive me the indiscreet but does Marat treat his teeth only in Valencia?"

- "No, just his favorite dentist is here. He doesn't trust someone else."
