someone wrote it in another thread already: the bryans will probably win their match, though it's gonna be tough, never underestimate robredo or nadal, think it's gonna take at least 4 sets to beat them...well, the rest is easy: andy and mardy are gonna get crushed big time, no chance against moya, nadal, ferrero or anyone else from the top 10 spanish players in their home country....sorry team usa, gon be one hell of a ride, gotta look forward to getting back to the us...

and i'm not even spanish, it's just the way i see it guys...

Horatio Caine

Roddick MIGHT win 1 singles match because J-C has been playing like a :retard: this year, understandably. Careless is back to some good form but as his name suggests he is likely to hit a few errors here and there but not enough for his opponents to capitalise on.

Roddick might win 1 match.
Fish will get pasted
Bryans HAVE to win doubles and it is expected they will.

Overall, I predict that USA will most probably win 1 rubber, maybe 2 - but they definitely WON'T win.

Would anybody bet against Nadal playing singles instead of J-C? I wouldn't.

I seriously think the spanish captain should let Nadal play the singles rubber instead of Ferrero - as much as I like JC it's just not his year.

roisin

he has a pretty good record in dc though. even this year. and he is the most experienced player on the spanish team, its his 3rd final and he's won it before. he's got the game for the big match situation as well, he's won RG. thats gotta count for something.

I agree with roisin, The davis cup brings out the best in him, it's on clay, against the Americans, and i'm sure he would love to say I beat Roddick in my off year. It would greatly improve his confidence for next year, he's been inactive so he can prepare and heal for the davis cup, and I really need to add a title to my signature for 2004, even if it is Davis Cup ;)

Prizeidiot
11-27-2004, 06:36 AM
I think Ferrero should be there. He's played the pressure matches before, and while his form isn't that flash, he's still one heck of a clay courter. And he rises for Davis Cup. Nadal is a bit of a wildcard... who knows what could happen if he plays a deciding rubber? Also, he was pasted by Roddick at the US... even more so than Ferrero was the year before

American tennis player Andy Roddick, left, during his training with Spanish tennis player Carlos Moya in Seville, Spain, Saturday Nov. 27, 2004. The United States will play Spain in this year's Davis Cup final in Seville from Dec. 3 to Dec.5. The United States will be trying to capture it's first title since Pete Sampras led the team to the 1995 championship.

That's what it looked like in the pic and what the caption said, but there was an article yesterday about how Team USA's plane was late or something so their practice had to be bumped back and then so did Spain's.... or something like that. I'm not sure they actually practiced together as some planned session or anything.

Seems strange for the "enemies" to practise together... eek!

Hope that Juanqui won't have as much pressure on him as he's not the top Spanish player now, so he can just go out there and win both his matches.

Carlos better win his also... we need extra insurance.

So Feli and Fernando coming along for the ride... good to see that Tommy is better after practising at Sant Cugat [home of Alex and Albert!]. Didn't he have a back prob tho??

Be prepared for the usual suspects to cry "ANTI AMERICAN" when the American players get jeered. Afterall, anti-americanism was clearly the motivator behind jeering Lleyton Hewitt and Wayne Ferreira ... and anybody who hasn't seen those two matches should really STFU about the matter

more like DC matches are where they use DODGY Speed guns
it might leave his racquet at 150 but when it gets to other side it wont be much more than a Lada going at top speed
Not to mention the fact that this is going to be played on a slow clay court, so I dont think we will be seeing serves at that speed. If Roddick is smart, he will frequently use that kick serve of his, but that is a big "if".

Tommy :inlove: I hope he gets to play even if it's just a dead rubber.

Not just that, but isn't the area they are playing in relatively humid, which would make the balls travel slower in the air?

No, Becca, Sevilla is in a pretty dry part of Spain but it is almost winter and that means more rain and humidity -- if it were summer, then it w be about 45C, blazingly sunny and dry as a bone!

What a team the US is fielding - a headless chicken for a captain, a duck, a fish, a rapper and two drummers! Are they supposed to challenge the Armada? :)

Yes, we're going to quack them to death, and the beat will be "USA, USA!!!"

Yes I do, "quack, quack, quack". I need to figure out something for Mardy other than "damn, he chocked again."

No.

I didn't watch the matches... but you know I'll be here stirring you up when after Andyizsexy678's 57th BAM ace past the Bug.

You won't be stirring me up. I don't expect very much from Ferrero in the first place, nor have I projected a 5-0 sweep for Spain unlike others around here. Feel free to stir them up, however.

Just doing my part on this tennis network of discussion boards. Thanks for the kind words.

Can anyone confirm the rules of the DC Format? The #1 players play the #2 players on Friday and the first match on Sunday (if necessary) are the two #1 players, right?

Si, that is correct. it doesn't matter which order as long as it's those numbers. The two respective #1s play the fourth match.

best looking davis cup team? you're kidding:) swedish, russian, french and british are the best looking teams:)
Nah, look at the spanish team Ferrero (the best looking guy ever) Moya (he ain't too bad) Nadal (His looks are really growing on me) and Robredo (he's good looking too) the spaniards are the only tennis players that do anything for me (except for the argentines) but I respect your opinion

Meh. Ferrero's not bad, although somedays it's more evident that the passage of time and sun haven't been kind to him than others. Nadal has a nice body but really couldn't do less for me (even though he's one of my favourite players). Moya's really never done it for me at all, but I guess I can sort of see why other people like him  Robredo :hearts:... but he doesn't really look that great in these particular photos.
