TAYLOR DENT (US) AND MARIO ANCIC (CROATIA) TO ATTEND ABN AMRO WORLD TENNIS TOURNAMENT 2005
24-11-2004 | 13:33
At least one American will enter the draw for the 32nd ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament. Earlier this week, Tournament Director Richard Krajicek signed up Taylor Dent. Mario Ancic will also make an appearance at Ahoy’ Rotterdam early next year.

Taylor Dent (23) is the first American to play in Rotterdam since Richey Reneberg, who participated in 1998. Dent has ascended to 32nd place in the ATP rankings, having reached the final in Tokyo, and the semi-finals in Adelaide, Nottingham and Athens (Olympic Games). He has won four tournaments during his professional career: Newport in 2002, and Memphis, Bangkok and Moscow in 2003.

Although Mario Ancic (20) has yet to win an ATP title, he managed to make it to the top-30 earlier this year (current ranking: 29). Ancic was unable to find a way past Anthony Dupuis in the final of the Milan tournament last February, losing the third set of a hard-fought match. However, the Croatian Service Slammer played extremely well on grass, reaching the semi-finals in Wimbledon and Rosmalen. Ancic is currently coached by Rohan Goetzke, who previously worked with Richard Krajicek.

Roger Federer’s name will appear at the top of the seeding list. The Swiss ended a spectacular season – which included no less than three Grand Slam titles - by winning the Masters title last weekend. In addition to Federer, the tournament will be attended by first-class international players like Tim Henman, David Nalbandian and Sébastien Grosjean. Sjeng Schalken and Raemon Sluiter will be among the Dutch players to participate.

The final draw will be announced on Wednesday 5 January 2005 during the pre-tournament press conference.

thanks for the article...yeah it doesn't surprise me that Mario's going there since his coach lives in Amsterdam and, as it says, used to coach Krajicek. Hope Mario can do well there! Can't wait to see the full player list!

Are you going to Rotterdam?

Yeah, during Wimbledon it was on Dutch tv that Ancic & Dent would come; they have the same manager or something. It's weird that they announce these names though. They are not so spectacular, when the tournament usually has a star-studded field.

Mario has good memories of Rotterdam too. He qualified there one year :)
