This may have already been posted elsewhere, and I apologise if it has, but I think everyone should fill out this questionnare, it is a great cause and could lead to greater exposure of professional doubles.. After all it is a great game -- please everyone, get onto it!

Thanks Emily.. Comeon guys get posting - and thoughts on the survey here. Some of the questions seemed obvious like players should interact with fans more during matches, but each player has their own brain!
And I don't see how the ATP would get Federer,Moya, Safin etc to play doubles unless they wanted too. But I filled it out in order to try and get most exposure.
I don't seriously think they would over change the format of doubles!!

(I'm almost asleep... 5 more minutes ;))
I've posted the link in the yahoo group in my sig... maybe some people there will do it too. There are allegedly 107 members (yes, I'm boasting. But I'm so proud ;)) so some of them might want to do it

If only they had a comments section:
"Put doubles players, with their names written on their shirts, in as replacement ball kids during high profiles singles matches. Then during sets they can amuse and interact with the crowd..." Ah Madrid...

Very true.... I also enjoy watching doubles. Doubles are too much neglected.

That's one of the reasons why I love Davis Cup, because there, the doubles match has a pretty high value :yeah:

i have done it. ATP really should do sth to save the doubles matches' market. Any fan wouldn't like to see doubles matches disappear someday. The questionare is a good way to listen more fans' voices, but i hope ATP won't only think this problem on the skin.

They should play the doubles first in the Slam finals, but I am not a huge fan of it, even though there are quite a few of the doubles guys I like, the ATP should try harder with the doubles though.

I think I am one of the few people here that would much rather watch Mariusz Fyrstenberg / Marcin Matkowski - Julian Knowle / Nenad Zimonjic than Juan Carlos Ferrero - Marat Safin

:)

I agree 100% Without trying to provoke an argument, I find little excitement in a match such as Federer vs Koubek, where it is near obvious what will happen; we know everyone's game, and how peoples games react to others.. Whereas doubles its all about you, your partner and both your oppo.
It is obviously harder to watch the big names in singles, but please guys get filling out that survey, I have also put a link from Jim's homepage to it.

If I ever turn pro, I would rather be a doubles specialist than a singles player...

Each to their own and I have never slighted doubles players at all, and as I said there are quite a few of them I like, it's just I prefer watching singles, though it's not like women's tennis where I won't watch it. If a doubles match is on I will see it, though if the combination is unusual that makes it better.

If you ever turn pro, you have a bigger chance of me supporting you if you are a doubles player ;)

And I must say doubles matches offer more than twice the entertainment of singles. The net actions, the explosiveness of it, the subtlety.. It's brilliant to watch :)

I've completed the questionnaire too. Until the Olympics, I wasn't too bothered about doubles, but after seeing the medal matches at Athens, I can see how great doubles can be

Karlovic 208cm
Gaudio 175cm

Despite the height difference, they made the Aus Open 04 R16!

Not surprised you enjoyed it GWH, How many years have you been going?

N.B. This just demonstrates doubles holds something for everyone; whoever your player, they've been there!

Quite a lot of years now. I mean I used to spend half of my holidays there when it was on, then I have been based down there for this and next year, so a lot of years.

The French and Aus Open are easily my favourite Slams, the others don't come close.

11-21-2004, 02:47 PM
Do you have any, like tips for people visiting the French? I've been Wimbledon three years before, but none of the other Grand Slams and am planning to go for the first week to RG... (This is better than pm: I don't have to keep moving the messages into folders, and it cranks up my number of posts :P:P)

I love doubles! I filled out the survey a couple of days ago, found the link on bobandmike.com. But thanks for posting the link here too. I hope that a lot of people will fill it out so that the atp will do a better job of promoting doubles. More doubles on tv, more doubles on the show courts and let the audience know who the big doubles teams are!

ae wowww
11-21-2004, 02:49 PM
That's the attitude! Comeon keep filling it in those of you who haven't already.. And those who have, drum up some support and get everyone you know to!

GWH??

The ticketing system isn't as good as the Aus Open and you have to pay for the qualies, but apart from the ticketing it's a great venue. I was fortunate that I had a friend who got me tickets, I can tell more later.

It's in the south west of Paris it's easy to get to. Take your own food and a water bottle that's the best basic advice I can give you.

ae wowww
11-21-2004, 03:27 PM
Ok Thanks GWH. I think the tickets will not be a problem as Jim has promised me a credential, but I am more concerned about hotels... looking for something nearby and cheap, lol!!

Thanks

Action Jackson
11-21-2004, 03:30 PM
If you got a pass then there is no problem, everything else is easy, you have solved the biggest problem.

It depends on what you want to pay and where you want to stay?

ae wowww
11-21-2004, 03:31 PM
I just want something relatively cheap e.g £40-60 and not too far, or somewhere that it is obvious how to get to the stadium. How far were you, and how much did it cost?

Action Jackson
11-21-2004, 03:45 PM
To get to the stadium you need to take the Metro on Line 10 and get off at Porte d'Auteuil station and you won't be able to miss the stadium.

I stayed in a backpackers not very classy, but cheap.

Should suffice. Considering I have just quit my study program ( ), I might be going to RG too..

Formula 1 hotels are cheap and there are some cheap hotels in Montmartre too, but you will need like 30 minutes to get to RG.

I was at a doubles match at teh USO a couple years ago, and a couple of older gentlemen behind me were raving about the doubles game. They seemed to know their stuff, I think you would have liked them coocoo ;) The one guy insisted that doubles is better than the singles game and that it's a bloody shame that the ATP is trying to kill it :p

I like both doubles and singles for different reasons.

KarstenBraasch#1
11-21-2004, 08:17 PM
Done.

Question #15 was weird. I guess I would watch more doubles if there was a "format change" that would make it more interesting, but since I can't imagine such a change, I clicked "strongly disagree".

It was Todd and Jonas vs Portas and Robredo. It was a miserable match but there were some fun points, and entertainment on the changeovers thanks to the singing kangaroo guys (much to Robredo's irritation). I would like to pretend that I was there to see one of the best doubles teams in the world, but alas, I was not :p
