LOL Kiro... I have a digital camera too ;) Cameras take up most of my bag space at tournaments  The digital has capacity to hold up to 400 pics (at the AO this year, it wasn't enough  ). So I'll be taking that, as well as this new camera which I picked up today :woohoo: but the uh...lens is bigger than they allow into Aus Open grounds, so I'll have to hide it somehow ;) (But I'd mainly use it at practice and quallies. I hope they have the same double standards as I do.

 Fee... I'll be on the lookout for people like Fleishman... I saw him at Aus Open quallies this year and thought he looked gorgeous! (Typical me! I didnt get a chance to see him play well, but I thought he was "fine") He was losing quite badly to Bogomolov!

I'll probably take random pictures of players, with the digital. If guys are qualifying, then there's more chance I'll get a proper photo of them ^_^

LOL, this year when I went to ATP China Open (Beijing), I brought a Digital Camera (SONY 717) with 128+32MB memories, and I brought my IBM Thinkpad with me to the tennis center too. I took pics, transfer them to my computer, and then went to take new ones...
I was tired out by the heavy bag in the end... :o

Nope, but there were a few Americans there:
http://www.atptennis.com/en/common/TrackIt.asp?file=/posting/2004/338/QS.pdf
so maybe he was training with them, or had to change for a different flight to Melbourne  I hate having tennis mysteries like that! For 9 months I wondered who someone was (I thought he was florian mayer, then kohlschrieber...turned out to be stakhovsky :lol: )

 Its so convenient when other people appreciate the little people.
Seriously, there's no chance of me chasing after the top ten players. Well, except a certain Brit. He might get a pic or 2 :) I want to try to get some pics of the guys who don't even have a pic in their atp profile!

Don't you worry! The people on my list right now include you (ae), Fee, Neely, CooCoo, Kezzi and Danielle. Basically because we share similar tastes in players :) There are probably a couple of other people I regularly talk to on mtf... but I'll focus mostly on Germans, Swedes and Austrians.

Thank you Kristen. Hopefully Jan-Mike and his big bright blues will make this draw.

I'm not too sure Zack will go down under next year. He is currently in the 300's, playing Futures tournaments, so he may stay in the States and try to rack up some points.

I love the new camera! It ended up costing $499 AU for the small zoom, the 100-300 one, bag, film, and free processing of my first film :yeah: ($120 to get a bag and larger zoom added into the deal!)

Yesterday, when I got home (at dusk), there were 2 cockatoos in my front yard, harassing me for food as usual, so I tried out the camera on them. When the film is fully used, I'll take it back to the place, and the guy that works there can tell me how I did, and how to improve :woohoo:

I really hope that Alex can have an even better Australian summer than last year (where he went 6-3, including quallies). Mine and Fee's Alex is going to be in Chennai (Mr. Popp) Katherine ;)

Hmm... now, I don't want to wish anything bad on other players  but I really would like to see Alexander get direct entry! That way it's more likely that I'll be guaranteed to *at least* see him training. Alexander Popp is my priority for 2005. The rest of my guys are young and / or they play doubles fairly often.

Well, Tursunov is still in the Top 104 and he won't be going, so there's one place. I'm sure if I took the time to look at the other 103 guys, I could find someone who may not be able to make it.

Watch out, Bryan Brothers, here come Hewitt & Rasheed!!!!!! ;)

RASHEED RETURN: LLEYTON Hewitt wants to lure his coach out of retirement for a second time.
The world No. 3 will ask tournament directors Mark Woodforde and Peter Johnston for a doubles wild card in the Next Generation Hard Courts in Adelaide from January 3-9.

He has nominated Rasheed, who has played just one international tournament since 1993, as his partner.

"I'm looking forward to an opportunity to repeat what we did in Rotterdam," Hewitt said, referring to the pair's stunning first-round win in the Netherlands.

"We are really excited about the possibility of playing in Adelaide – Roger was awesome in Rotterdam."

Hewitt, 23, and Rasheed, 35, stunned the Dutch Davis Cup team of Raemon Sluiter and Martin Verkerk in the February tournament with a 6-4 6-1 thrashing.

Rasheed, forced off the international scene with a back complaint, stepped up when Hewitt's partner Mark Philippoussis withdrew from the tournament.

I was at the courts today...only a few players have arrived so far from overseas...however ALOT of local Autralians there..The Mercedes cars were out all afternoon so im guessing there would have been alot of players arriving in the late afternoon and heading to their hotels..

Saw Joachim and Lleyton having a friendly chat :p
Only saw Lleyton hit briefly...and saw Joachim hit in the afternoon with aussie player Shannon Nettle...whom he has been hitting with for about the last week or so...
Of the overseas players....there was Novak Djokovic ( i assume hes playing Quals), and Jean Rene Lisnard...(they were hitting together)

Todd Perry and Jordan Kerr were also having a hit of doubles together..

The great thing about the adelaide tournament is how close you can get to the players - in the lounge, the practice courts (which have no fences), and also the matches on the outside courts....it really lets you see these guys play close up...which is much much much more thrilling than watching them play from 20 rows back at a grand slam in my opinion..

Alot of young aussies were there...i assume to contest the pre qualifying tournament...these include Guccione, Durek, Feeney

Wild card Recipient Marc Kimmich was also around the place...and also heard news today that Wayne Arthurs has recieved a Wildcard.
Paul Baccanello was also there today..

I gotta say im impressed by Djokovic...hes unbelievable for someone so young...(not as good as Nadal obviously...but still)

Ill keep you informed
Cheers
Dave

davidrafael
12-28-2004, 09:59 AM
No Via, You have heard right...sort of... you are correct (in a way)....Pre-Qualifying...which is a 16 player draw tournament for Australian players begins on Wednesday. However, as usual, official Qualifying starts on Saturday. The Two finalists from Pre Qualifying recieve entry into official Qualifying..Pre Qualifying begins at 9am tommorow on some Plexipave courts across the road from the main complex (not the rebound ace courts in the main complex) If anyone iis interested who is contesting it i can find out..

Via, you may also be interested to know that today i was in the players change rooms, and they were desserted, apart from 4 french guys...one of them being Arnaud Clement :p he was with Lisnard and De Chaunc....and some coach who i didnt recognise. Clement was also hitting later with Dechaunc..

Also hitting today...from memory and from what i saw on the booking sheet...was Joachim hitting with Marc Kimmich on Centre court in the morning, while at the same time on the outside courts...Sjeng Schalken was hitting with Chris Guccione, Jordan Kerr hitting with Lisnard, Baccanello playing with Djokovic, and Todd Perry was also out there.

Lleyton was out on centre court in the afternoon with his coach and some hitting partners...had quite a crowd watching him actually...and damn, he looks in very good form ;) but so does Joachim...

Tennis724 i hope he arrives tommroow! it seems players are leaving it quite late to arrive this year...normally most of them are here by the wednesday the week before.

Tournament Organisers will recieve an official response on Thursday as to whether Andy Roddick will accept the wild card which has been reserved for him...however this seems ubnlikely due to the fact hes had the late season wuith the Davis Cup...his only motivation to come would be to defend his seeding with Hewitt going into the Australian Open

Ive also heard the Bryan Bros are bypassing adelaide this year...the first time since they began playing on the pro tour..

ill keep you informed
Dave

Ooooooooh, they must be scared of playing Hewitt & Rasheed in the first round. :scared: :scared:

Ozfan, that second list you posted is just an alternate list, it doesn't mean any of those players are showing up there and players that aren't on that list can still show up and sign in for qualifying anytime before 9 pm on Friday night.

Tennis724 i hope he arrives tommroow! it seems players are leaving it quite late to arrive this year...normally most of them are here by the wednesday the week before.

Well, if he did leave the day I was told about every flight that left arrives in Adelaide at 10 AM today so I wouldn't imagine him going out for any type of hit till Thursday. But I could be wrong...he might have a light hit today if he does get in that early.

I'm not surprised that some are coming in so late. Especially those stateside. They're going to be on the road another 9-10 months so why shouldn't those that celebrate Christmas be able to spend it with their family?

About the pre-quallies. I must have those confused with the AO pre-quallies that I heard about this month where Guccione lost 1st round because you listed Guccione as being part of Adelaide pre-quallies. It can all get very confusing :p .

Howdy

Finally! Many more players arrived today!

The most noticeable was probably Nicholas Kiefer, who was out weith his coach on centre court today. Thomas Enqvist also arrived with his coach and GF/wife.

The americans were also hanging together today, the main group comprised of Taylor Dent, Alex Bogomolov, Amer Delic and Brian Baker. (there was another guy in casual clothes who had a racquet bag - wasnt sure who that was)

Some of the players arriving tommorow include Saulnier, Kolschreibier, Florian Mayer and Simon Aspelin.

there were alot more players out there today but really cant think of any off of the top of my head!

According to the booking sheet, Llleyton is out on Center Court Tommorow at 8:30am.

Cheers
Dave

Davidrafael, if you could answer the most important question: WHAT IS KIEFER WEARING? His adidas contract expired and he could have new clothes for the 2005 season, wearing his old adidas stuff, or wearing unmarked clothes until he gets a contract. Let us know if you can see anything. Thanks!

12-30-2004, 09:10 AM
Sorry Ozfan, i cant get a copy, well im not relaly in the position to ask and i dont know if they have any spare copies for release. If you ring the tournment office im sure they can fax you a copy as i heard someone doing this yesterday with Pre-Qualifying. There number should be on the official fact sheet, or on the ATP site..

Well i saw keifer hit both today and yesterday, and today he was wearing nothing :P he had his top off...haha but he was wearing adidas shorts, shoes , sweatbands...he was also wearing adidas yesterday....i couldnt tell you what the range is, whether its new or not...but i have seen the shorts and shoes before...i think the shirt was one of last years models too..

I saw Bogomolov and his coach Fransico Montana getting their credentials today..
some of the players arriving today included:
Hernych
Ginepri (who was hitting in the evening with Taylor Dent)
Mallise
Melzer
Starace
Rochus
Graydon Oliver
Martin Rodriguez
Labadze
Mazarakis

Lleyton was hitting with Nathan Healey and is hitting early tommorow again.
Johannson was hitting with Schalken, Kiefer with Clement, Dent with Enqvist..

Also the Qualifying wildcards will go to Todd Ley (16 years old from Adelaide, Australia)and Rameez Junaid (23 Years old from Melbourne, Australia) after they both won their respective pre-qualifying matches.

Ley beat Andrew Derer 6-7 6-4 6-4, whilst Junaid beat Raphael Durek. Goodluck to them both on Saturday.

Well thats about it i guess! not too sure whos hitting tommorow, although there are quite a few dubs players arriving tommorow. There is also a player party on saturday night...hmm ill be pushing to get in there ;)

Qualies start at 10am on Saturday, on courts 7,9 and 10.

Talk about timing

Francisco is actually no longer Alex's coach. They might work together for this tournament because he's (Francisco) there with Robby & Taylor but he's not Alex's official coach anymore.

So I guess this answers my question about who Alex might be there with.

JMG, The first time i saw Nieminen was today...looking safe and well! so dont worry haha

Sjeng is looking pretty fit, but then again, so is his GF/wife hahaha ;)

i dont think Hernych is out...i saw his name on the court booking sheet so i guess he is here...i also saw him on the list to be piceed up from the airport

Late news....Ancic has pulled out after rolling his ankle at training late on thursday evening...Michael Llodra has also pulled out with Gastro infection...this is not good...this field was looking pretty awesome! apparently Baccanello is now VERY close to securing a wildcard, as Arthurs will 90% chance be promoted to main draw, Plus there is a spare Wildcard anyway cause Roddick isnt coming..

Breakaway, Ginepri and Mallise are hitting together tommorow LOL...and yes, Gasquet is not here...even though he has been the last 2 years

Lleyton has Centre Court booked for 7pm until 9pm on Saturday Night, probably because he has been told that his first match will be on tuesday night (95 percent chance)

Today, on center, Kiefer was hitting with Enqvist (for any Thomas Fans, Magnus Larrson is here as his coach for the Aussie Summer as Mikael Tillstrom is at home looking after his wife and new born baby)Marc Kimmich was hitting with Alberto Martin, Joachim Johannson was playing with Ryderstedt...Qualies sign in closes at 9pm tonite, so tommorow i will try to post the Qualies results and schedules....

Mark Woodforde was just on Radio

Arthurs got direct into Main Draw
Paul Baccanello took his wildcard

1-Lleyton Hewitt vs Qualifier
5th seed Taylor Dent is the seed in Hewitt's quarter.
WC-Mark Kimmich vs 2-Joachim Johansson

Pitty Mark didn't get a better draw but i guess it's good for him to play against a top 15 player and he will know how he plays as he has hit with him at the training camp.
