I will be providing some reports though I am not sure for how many days maybe the first two as I will be at qualies as well.

The Roddick/Nalbandian match was a great laugh especially as I was watching it with an Argentine and a Spanish guy and they found it very amusing especially when the Duck was ducking up.

I think it would have been just waking up and leaving because the match started at 8.30am. I remember having to "mute" the TV when I phoned the office at 9.00am and told them I was far too sick to come in!!!!!

Yes - especially when I "threw a sickie" from work that morning to watch his AO match against Roger live

That has to hurt, and the fact that he had enough chances to beat Roger there as well. I was at that match, and all I thought whoever wins this match, they have to win the tournament.

I never cheer too hard when those two are playing each other.

And you were right :) Mind you it really doesn't hurt that much to "throw a sickie" - I'm tempted to do it often, though this match is one of the rare occasions I've ever plucked up the courage to do it!!! Don't want to make it a habit though.

Federer Calls for Tennis to Join Tsunami Relief Effort

Monday, January 10, 2005 9:32:30 PM ET

By Simon Cambers

MELBOURNE (Reuters) - World number one Roger Federer has led calls for tennis to join other sports in raising money for victims of the south Asian tsunami disaster.

Federer said tennis players should follow the example set by the world's top cricketers, who joined forces for a one-day international in Melbourne on Monday which raised more than $A14 million ($US10.63 million) for the relief effort.

"I straight away was thinking about different options for us to help," the Swiss told reporters at Tuesday's draw for the Kooyong Classic, the traditional warm-up event for next week's Australian Open.

"If we can help just a bit then I'd definitely play as much as they (organizers) like. Obviously we can't be there to help but I'll play in as many matches as possible throughout the year."

TERRIBLE TRAGEDY

Andre Agassi echoed Federer's comments, saying that the governing bodies of tennis should come together to organize events.

"I think this would be the best opportunity in the world for all of us (players) to come together," said the American.

"Because tennis is an individual sport it would need one of the professional bodies to organize it. But it was a terrible tragedy and I think you'd find all the players happy to do all they can to help those who've been affected."

Thousands of people in south and east Asia were killed in the giant waves triggered by an undersea earthquake off the Indonesian island of Sumatra on December 26.

Like many tournaments, the Kooyong Classic will be holding daily collections, with the money raised being donated to UNICEF, the United Nations Children's Fund.

Top seed Federer will open his bid for the title in the eight-man event at Kooyong against French Open champion Gaston Gaudio of Argentina.

Another Argentine, defending champion David Nalbandian, meets Briton Tim Henman, Agassi faces Olympic champion Nicolas Massu of Chile and American Andy Roddick takes on Paradorn Srichaphan of Thailand.

The Kooyong Classic begins on Wednesday.

This competition is so under-advertised and has no proper website (only a crappy, confusing one). I'm also sure almost nobody will get TV coverage of this outside Australia. Why would the best players waste their time in an exhibition event instead of gathering points at an ATP event? I'm sure there's an explanation which I'm just unaware of.
