If Coria beats Roddick in two sets (impossible) and Henman bt. Safin in two sets would he still qualify as no.1 ?

Things are still looking really good though, yes at times he was an OAF< but he played very well today so his form hasn't completely deserted him. He still has a good shot at making the semis.:) Hope he makes it.

Marat needs a lesson on how to win tie-breaks... :o

Congrats Roddick, he played the big points well.

Hmmmm...... now that Andy is no. 1 in his group I wonder if Roger will purposely tank his match against Moya just so that he could meet him in the semifinals and spoil Jim's party ;) :p

Seriously now- what an enjoyable match. It wasn't always the highest of quality. Marat OAFed a lot ( :( ) and Roddick made some ugly errors- but the indicator for me was those 3 set points that Andy saved in the 2nd set- that took huge balls. Say what you will about him, he is a Texan Tiger and a thoroughly deserved winner. Well done :yeah:

So it is now a knockout match between Henman and Safin to determine who goes home and who lives on....... nice!!! :D

Awww Marat
He seemed to vary between brilliant and OAFish, but all props to Roddick, he upped his game when he came under pressure.
And the crowd was pretty good too, I thought, plenty of support for Marat as well

no because he is playing for $1.5 million like last year

Yeah too bad for Safin, now we won't get the so highly anticipated Feds- Safin final anymore
but Feds my play Safin in the semis, that's good enough for me
It will be very interesting who makes the finals though, duck-potato match-up is in favor of potato 3-1, but I want duckie to make the finals, and Feds will have too defeat defeat Safin
But then we will have the ultimate duckhunt and Feds will shake duckie really badly in front of his homecrowd. He will be featherless for the rest of his life.

By the way- seeing as Andy is now #1 in his group no matter what the outcome of the other matches, does this mean that Roger is also #1 in his group seeing as he also won both his matches in straight sets?

Wow, that was a fun match!!! Loved it when Marat smiled to the camera during one break, very cute;)

Go Andy!!!

Come on Tim - beat Marat!

Tim and Marat tied on 2 wins each head-to-head.

Henman claimed the last match in straight sets in Indian Wells 2002 and went on to the final. He also beat Marat on 2 TIEBREAKS  way back in 1999 on indoor hard.

Gonna be very interesting - depends who wants it most. Both players likely to be sooo nervous, Henman probably more so.

Who would the crowd want to win more?

Who do you think will win?

I really like Henman and feel sorry for him sometimes, but he has to be sacrificed for Marat. Too bad the duck's in, hate him.

Why does Andy qualify as no. 1?

Horatio Caine
11-18-2004, 10:35 PM
Andy qualifies as 1 because only 1 of Henman or Safin can post 2 wins and match him. Andy will win more %sets than the winner of Safin/Henman plus he has won their head-to-head encounters so he has to be 1.

ahh... andy just had to ruined it for me -_-
no more Roger-Safin finaaalll!!! .. race for next year No. 1 challenger versus defending champ

yes.. it has to be a final for it to be more meaningful... and also cuz we are tired of andy-roger finals... (that is.. if they get through everything)

I bet you like to remember that win he had over Marat, but you'd probably rather forget about the IW Finals match that year. ;)

My experience with the Houston crowds was that by and large they are tennis players. So they appreciate good tennis, no matter who is playing. Sure they have a special relationship with Andy and he's their favorite, but they love anyone who goes out there and plays well. By the end of the Claycourts this year, everyone LOVED Tommy b/c he showed a lot of heart all week long. They're open to anyone there - that was my experience anyway :)
