Btw in case anyone's wondering who's the freaky girl who just started posting; :p I've actually been a member here for a little less than two years. I just haven't been posting much anymore. My name here used to be just virgil but I lost my password so I had to re-register. Also I'm digswing at wtaworld, so persons who've been around longer'll remember me. Hi, Scotty. :)
Hey I'm another person who's been around longer :p

Hi Virgil, you didn't seem that freaky to me.

virgil23
01-22-2004, 03:42 AM
I read that no-one's had a double bagel in the 21st century and gone on to win the slam. However Justine got one too so if everyone gets one I guess it cancels itself

Oh that explains it. Well there's always a first time for everything. :)

Scotso

Hey V :D

virgil23
01-22-2004, 03:43 AM
Hi Virgil, you didn't seem that freaky to me.

I didn't say I was being freaky but I know when I was posting more regularly if someone just popped in and started posting away, with me never having seen them post before or them not introducing themselves; it'd seem weird to me.

Scotso
01-22-2004, 03:44 AM

 How are you dear?

Oh great Angie because Marl told me everyone went on some *porn* name change :p and I wasn't sure who exactly I was talking to. Well hi. :)

Jess
01-22-2004, 03:45 AM
Right I really have to go to bed now :o falling asleep at computer.

Hopefully Lleyton is just as effective as Kim in beating Kucera.

any post match interview Danni?
Yup!
KIm said that someone in the crowd was saying "c'mon, give her a game" and Kim's like "well what am I supposed to do? Hit it into the net?!" lol. and she said that she thought she played perfectly and really enjoyed it. Yesterday the ankle flared up a bit :( and that was also because the tape irritated it, but today it felt fine. Kim said the chick she's playing next will be tough cos she's tall and has a good serve and I think that was about it......no gooberish quotes anway :p

Scotso

Thanks Danni!

Kim is so adorable  I thought she was trying to give the girl a game at the end there though lol I'm glad the ankle is good today but I had a feeling it had flared up after her last match :( Hopefully it's getting better though and this time it won't flare up as much and it'll keep going that way!

Maybe some gooberish quotes in her press conference *crossing fingers*

virgil23
01-22-2004, 04:15 AM
Okay what did Lleyton expect Kim to take longer so he was totally unprepared to come out and play? WTF is he doing out there? He's about to get bagelled. Maybe Kim's mojo is rubbing onto Kucera.

Angele
01-22-2004, 04:15 AM

Danni
01-22-2004, 04:27 AM
How's he playing Danni?
the thing that's killing him is Kucera's back hand down the line, and a lot's of LL's shot's are catching the net :(
first set 6-1

Ok come on Lley, re-group!

Murkofan
01-22-2004, 04:29 AM
 peeps? :p

I'd hang out, but I've got school tomorrow, plus some errands to run, and I'm soooooooo tiiiiiiiiired.

Dunno if you watched it, Busty, but I'm glad Sam finally got the boot :p When he got fired, he looked like he was about to snap and try to strangle Trump :p

Kim lays the smackdown with a double bagel  Impressive. Ll close to being bagelled, not so impressive :p Maybe it's because he's missing out on some mojo because Glynn and Chezza are watching Jaslyn get double bagelled :p

Els Callens is too good of a doubles player to partner with Hantuchova, who definitely has the "headcase" market cornered atm.

Anyway  Here's hoping Ll pulls his head out of his arse :p :wavey:

Angele
01-22-2004, 04:32 AM

Well it's an American network and they show all Americans all the time :( Like at the moment they are showing Venus' match on tape delay while there are live matches going on, including Lleyton and Roger Federer. I think the only live tennis we've seen at all was Andy Roddick's first match.

Scotso
01-22-2004, 04:48 AM

Lisbeth
01-22-2004, 04:50 AM
Yeah that would get annoying. I mean showing Roddick live is normal and expected (even outside America) but you don't need to see it 45 times when there's live stuff going on.

Thanks goodness for the internet, huh?

I don't know what I'd do if there wasn't the internet :o

I can totally understand that an American network would show the American players when they're playing... you'd expect that from any network for their respective players. But showing taped tennis when there is live tennis happening is just not acceptable :( If they really feel the need to show these matches they should start their coverage earlier.

They asked if she and Lleyton prefer to play on the same day or not and she said they do prefer to play on the same day because then they have their day off together :hearts: :hearts: Then she showed off her ring and the ESPN guy was like oh she's actually going to show it to us and Kim was like yeah I lot of people have been asking to see it so I'm getting used to it :p

So, I didn't get to watch Kim or Lley play  I saw a little of JCF but then the common room became full of Italian guys and all they wanted to do was watch the soccer  (apologies to any soccer fans).

But, well done Kim :) From the looks of that scoreline she didn't seem to have any problems. Although she did say her ankle started to hurt and I still think its worse than she is letting on, but a win is a win :)

Just as well I wasn't around for Lley's match as I would have been having heart failure in the 1st set! Well done for turning it around though :yeah:

I'm glad that Ll. has some vocal fan support, b/c I think it really helps him settle into the match. He just seems so tightly wound at Melbourne.

I read a story in the Hearld that Santoro spit in the direction of the umpire.

I have seen Santoro be spiteful toward the umpire. He was playing Sampras at IW and thought he got a raw deal from the umpire. He was vocal about it and at the end of the match, he refused to shake the umpire's hand. Santoro is a fiery guy. :)

Please SOMEONE stop Hrbaty. ;)

lol...such admirable prudence. As far as I'm concerned, you can cheer away as long as he/they aren't playing Lleyton obviously.

Thanks for the info. about Fabrice Santoro's apparently considerable dark side . He sure is fun to watch. Spitting though?! That's just nasty.

Great tournament for the young swedish players. Robin Soderling with the big upset and Pim-Pim's great result. I wonder if he'll get a lot support against Ferrero, who seemed in poor form yesterday--about twice as many errors as winners.

I like the Safina match up for Kim. Coetzer would've been a nightmere :o Kim always dominates Coetzer with like 6-1, 6-1 type scorelines but those same matches take like an hour and a half :p

Kim said last night she compares Safina to a Davenport type player..someone with some big shots..but doesn't really have the good movement. Plus Safina will hit a ton of UE's..all of it adds up to a shorter match for Kim.

I don't necessarily think it'll be an easy match for Kim..but it could be. She's still young and it'll depend how she handles the occasion. 2 years ago she played Serena second round I think..she managed 1 game :p Now of course it is Serena..but Serena isn't the type to bagel opponents simply cause she'll give you openings, she'll hit a lot of errors and a lot of winners. Dean Jokes About 'Screeching' in Iowa

By PATRICIA WILSON, Reuters

LEBANON, N.H. (Jan. 22) - A hoarse Howard Dean joked on Thursday about his nationally televised outburst, saying his voice had not recovered from his "screeching" after he lost in Iowa, the first major prize for Democrats seeking the White House.

In fact, the former Vermont governor is fighting a bad cold.

Dean is trying to get past the arm-waving, screaming speech he delivered after finishing third in Monday's Iowa caucuses to Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry and Sen. John Edwards of North Carolina.

His performance has been widely lampooned on the Internet, and late-night talk shows, but it could also be a serious problem for his campaign, reinforcing his image among some as an "angry" candidate who does not have the temperament to be president.

"I have still not recovered my voice from my screeching in Iowa," he told a town hall meeting in Lebanon.

Dean has been dogged by the fist-pumping, sleeve-rolling, shrieking remarks. He has been asked about it in more than a dozen radio and satellite television interviews.

"The context was 3,500 kids waving American flags who'd worked their hearts out for us for three weeks, and I really felt I owed them an uplifting speech, so, I don't know what it looked like on television," he said in the interviews. "But I understand the audience wasn't shown, which is really too bad because it was really a terrific rallying cry."

"I have my warts. I sometimes say things that get me in trouble," he later added in Lebanon.

Dean, once the front-runner among seven Democrats vying to challenge President George W. Bush on Nov. 2, has fallen behind Kerry in polls in New Hampshire, which holds its primary on Tuesday. He once held a 20 point lead.

Kerry, riding a wave of momentum from his Iowa victory, has grabbed a three-point lead over Dean five days before the primary, according to a Reuters/MSNBC/Zogby poll released on Thursday.

Dean spokesman Jay Carson dismissed the polls.

"A lot can change in five days... He's going to be pointing out that he stands up for what's right -- regardless of whether it's popular -- and that he's delivered results and not just speeches," Carson told CNN.

Dean would not apologize for Monday night's performance, Carson said.

"He had a room full of people who had come to Iowa to work hard for him, to volunteer for him, he wanted to go out there and show his appreciation for the hard work that they had done. He did that, he was energizing them and we're not going to make any apologies for it."

But Dean has toned down his rhetoric and his delivery. Instead of rousing rallies, he is holding town hall meetings in New Hampshire, answering questions and forgoing the "red meat" of his previous appearances.

In Lebanon, Dean was on the verge of losing his voice completely. The Democratic candidates meet on Thursday night for a televised debate that could be critical to the New Hampshire vote.

"I'm going to become a frog if I keep this up," he said.

Very true. But she's still in, which is a big improvement over some of her brain farts in the past :p And don't forget that she's had to come through and win a couple of tough 3 setters, so her mental mettle has already been tested a bit :p

I'm still bummed Ai is out.
