You know, I was born in New York City, and I 've lived on the east coast my whole life, and I absolutely LOVE country music. Go figure! :D But I don't listen to modern pop-type country music, I listen to Randy Travis, Dwight Yoakam, Merle Haggard, Joe Ely, Radney Foster, and Rodney Crowell, the stuff now called Americana music (which means that CMT doesn't play it). Is that weird or what??

Ivory skin and eyes of emerald green
Your smile is like a breath of spring
Your skin is soft like summer rain
I can not compete with you Jolene

He talks about you in his sleep
There's nothing I can do to keep from crying
When he calls your name

But I can easily understand how you could easily take my man
But you don't know what he means to me, Jolene

I had to have this talk with you
My happiness depends on you and whatever you decide to do, Jolene

I don't get hung up on the terms. I can understand using "country" as the broadest category containing all the sub-categories, like bluegrass, Tejano, Western swing, etc. People know what you're talking about when you say "country and western music." I prefer like the term "Americana," because that's more descriptive, and eliminates all the pop stuff, but lots of people don't know what it means. But, no matter what you call him, Joe Ely is a great artist.

I first saw Joe Ely at a small venue in Houston. Tons of people packed in there all standing, and there was Joe.... in his trademark leather pants and dripping buckets of sweat. This was still when he had his full band -- the piano and everything. Later he started playing with two guitar players and drums. But it was never as good as the whole shebang.

I dunno. Sometimes people make themselves crazy just before a wedding or just after. Everything seems lovely and then they start thinking... "Oh my god. This is for the rest of my life." and that just does something to their minds. Things they could tolerate before are magnified into HUGE problems.

I can also see that while Kim was a "girlfriend" Chezza might have had a different attitude than when she became the near daughter-in-law. Kim might have wanted Lleyton to take a stronger stand against his family and became upset when he didn't.

Also people have these hidden expectations about marriage that they don't even realize they have until it is upon them. And sometimes when those expectations aren't met, people become dissatisfied.

I just feel really sorry for Lleyton. Clearly, he didn't want the split.

Guys like Lleyton aren't hanging about on every street corner. I'm sure he has his faults as a boyfriend, but steadfastness and devotion aren't everyday charateristics.

Of course, it's not. But logic isn't ever a major factor in being a parent. :) Parents do dream of their children's weddings from the moment the kids are born, if not before, so it's just something that you have to manage without freaking out.

Sometimes, arguments over the details of a wedding simply act as the lightning-rod for what are actually doubts over the wisdom of the marriage in the first place. It's easier to complain that your future mother-in-law is being unreasonable about the guest list and the menu than to admit that you're scared ****less over the thought of committing yourself to someone for the rest of your life.

Yes. That's one senario. Of course, people are nervous and tense.

But I've seen parents go completely whacko. They insist on a huge wedding when the couple wants a small intimate wedding, etc.

Also... if the parents have been dreaming about a wedding for their children, you gotta wonder about them. That's their children's dreams not theirs. You support your children's dreams..... you don't impose your dreams on them.

Yeah, I thought Angele might take it quite badly.

Marly, been a bit too long! Are the others like Duck, Dagmar, and BBB still around?

I'm just so sad about the news. When I heard it yesterdaymorning (getting ready for work), I just had to turn on my PC and search for the article. I just couldn't believe it. And then I they were mad at me at work because I was 1 minute late (really it was 08.01 when I clocked) => I just heard the most devestated news in weeks and they are complaining about 1 minute ...

I just keep on hoping it was a misunderstanding and that they can work it out.
If they can't I just hope they will be very happy (I would like to see them very happy with each other, but you can't have it all), they both really deserve it (being happy)!!!

PARIS STEALS DELTA'S SCUD
Hours after Lleyton Hewitt told of his heartache at breaking up with fiancee Kim Clijsters, socialite Paris Hilton revealed Mark Philippoussis had dumped Delta Goodrem for her - and she plans to join Scud on the tennis circuit.

Maybe Nicky stole Kim???

Guys, I rarely come on the boards anymore but when I came on and saw the news I was  I can't believe it. I hope that it didn't go down like the press is putting it... if so, poor Lleyton. I really hope they're both okay, and I hope they work this out and get back together

Hey everybody. It's really strange cos when I read the news on teletext I wasn't as shocked as I thought I would be, like I was half expecting it but then I keep thinking about what Kim said in Hasselt about Ll being loyal and styff and keep thinking it is a shock!! I think at the mo I'm just numb. I really want to still support them in there matches but I don't know if I'll be able to watch them separately to me it's always been Lleyton and Kim or Kim and Lleyton, I know this sounds way too dramatic but since I lost my Mum I kinda through myself into watching tennis (as she loved it) then it became about the lovely story which was Lleyton and Kim! Anyway have to get off this site as at the mo I think I'm gonna make myself too upset! See ya all soon, Zoe p.s. hugs and kisses to everyone.

Scud dumps Delta for Paris
By Nui Te Koha
October 24, 2004

US heiress Paris Hilton has boasted she is having a relationship with Australian tennis player Mark Philippoussis.

"I've got a new man, and I'm head over heels in love," 23-year-old Hilton is said to have claimed late yesterday.

"I adore him, he's so hot. His name is Mark Philippoussis."

Hilton made the extraordinary statements at a jeans store in trendy West Hollywood during a shopping spree. She and her sister, Nicky, were acting as personal guides for two competition winners from Melbourne.

According to project organiser James Young, shoppers were stunned when Hilton named Philippoussis as her new beau.

She then proudly showed an SMS picture of the topless tennis star on a beach in board shorts.

Mr Young, managing partner of creative agency SEE, said Hilton then sent a text message to say she was hosting shoppers from Philippoussis's home town.

Philippoussis replied with his own message.

"Aw," Paris sighed. "He thinks it's really sweet. I love him, I love him, I love him."

Hilton's publicist Richard Squire and Kylie Speer of SEE were reportedly gobsmacked when Hilton dropped the bombshell.

When told Philippoussis was dating singer Delta Goodrem, Hilton reportedly said: "Not any more. That is completely over."

She then reportedly made the surprising claim that the Scud had dropped Goodrem because he was bored.

Goodrem, in London, has declined to comment on her relationship with Philippoussis during interviews over the past fortnight.

However, earlier this month she said of the tennis star: "We have an overseas relationship. It's a very long-distance relationship, which, of course, is very hard. But everything is fine."

Last week, Philippoussis's trainer said he would move to California to regenerate his tennis career.

"He is moving back here to work out," fitness adviser Markus Heon said. "It's a new breath of fresh air for Mark."

It is also closer to Hilton's base in Beverly Hills.

Hilton, a hotel-chain heiress and television star, is the hottest celebrity in the world.

She has been romantically linked to actors Leonardo DiCaprio, Edward Furlong, Jared Leto and boxer Oscar de la Hoya.

She split with former Backstreet Boy Nick Carter in July, and had a holiday fling with Australian Idol finalist Rob Mills during last year's spring racing carnival.

Hilton also starred in an infamous home-made sex video released by a former lover, Rick Salomon.

The Scud's relationship list is equally impressive.

He has dated Anna Kournikova, actresses Tara Reid and models Tania Zaetta and Susie Thorne.

Goodrem is in London this week promoting her single Out Of The Blue – a love song about the Scud.

I think a lot of people sort of hung on to Kim and Lleyton as a happy story. We all love to see happy lovers. I can understand how it warmed your heart and how it was something you could sort of share in your heart with your mom. :wavey:

What on earth is Mark thinking! Delta = seemingly nice, relatively normal girl whose had a lot of crap thrown at her in the last year and Mark appeared to be a really nice guy helping her through it.
Then what does he do? Goes and dumps her for possibly the most shallow superficial stereotypical blonde on the planet. Oh dear.

But really. Parents getting involved and causing difficulties in their children's weddings just makes me :fiery: :fiery: :fiery: :fiery: :fiery:

It's not about THEM.

It causes difficulty, makes the children annoyed, causes unnecessary arguements between those intending to get married :fiery:  Add in a grandchild to start getting obsessed about and it just makes the whole thing ten thousand million times worse! :fiery: And yet they appear to be totally incapable of seeing the problems they cause!

Sorry it's a bit of a touchy subject right at the moment! ;)

I think that's what Mark values in a g/f. Well, Lleyton had a seemingly nice, relatively normal g/f for years, and she just broke his heart, so maybe Mark is onto something.

I'm really struggling to believe the she broke his heart stuff - it might be true but it totally contradicts every single thing I've ever heard about Kim! I can't imagine the whole thing was totally one sided.

But you're right about Mark he does like the brainless model types - I just naievely thought he might have grown up a bit.

I think a lot of people sort of hung on to Kim and Lleyton as a happy story. We all love to see happy lovers.

*raises hand* I know I did.

I know its been a couple of days since the event now, but I'm still in shock :o I still can't believe it and think what you like, but I am definitely up for a reconciliation. I know that no-one knows the true story, but I can't stop thinking that if parents were envolved (in some way) then Kim realy does love Lleyton (and vice versus), but she just doesn't want the "baggage" he comes with (for lack of a better word :o ).

Perhaps the parent issue began to surface at Wimbledon (seperate seats, eating seperately etc.) and fine if it did, but you can't tell me that Kim doesn't love Lleyton. For if she did, sure she might have watched his matched, clapped, shouted a few "come ons" of encouragement, but she didn't have to sit and look totally love struck as she mouthed "come on baby".

So, my conclusion is that the problem is not, inherently, between Kim and Lleyton so I'm just going to keep all my fingers and toes crossed!

:wavey: Jess!

Part of me still doesn't know what to think. As I said, I'm still in shock that the nightmare has come true! The fact that it happened SO suddenly (from all accounts given thus far) combined with a very long history may hopefully result in them talking it over. If Lleyton doesn't get himself to Belgium, in person, I will be upset. Of course, I know nothing like the full story, and I'm simply making assumptions here, but maybe Kim did let her emotions get the better of her. After all, she is staring down the barrel of, possibly, the end of her tennis career and trying to plan a wedding, where forever after that date she will always have to be in two places (countries) at once. I don't know, I have no personal experience when it comes to wedding planning, but it can't be easy.

So, I'm hoping that its not final and that they do prove us wrong and DO live happily ever after.

No, planning weddings especially involving stroppy mothers in law is not easy when the wedding is happening in your own town. Planning one on the other side of the world in your mother in laws back yard must be incrediably frustrating and damn near impossible!

I'd like to see Lleyts in Belgium - but  we don't know what was said either in the heat of the moment or over a period of weeks. If he was in Belgium after the tournament in Hasselt then they could have had some 'serious talks' then. I so hope they can work around it be because they just seemed together.

Absolutely  and they always seem to be a certain type of girl at that. I just thought he would be a little more respectful this time, especially given all she's been through in the last year. To flaunt a new relationship with someone else days after dumping her is just horrible of him.

Anyway, I have to stop thinking about this now (easier said than done! :o ) and go and do homework. I've got too much its depressing. My life is so depressing and now this, Oh :(
