Here is the thread about our Nikolay in 2013!

Those were the previous five questions in the end of 2011:
1- Do you think he still has it in him and can get to TOP 10?
2- Do you think he can keep himself in top 50 till the end of the year ?
3- Does he will retire in the end of 2012 ?
4- Can he prolong his streak with at least one title in 2012?
5- Can he go to at least 4rd round in a GS ? he haven't been there since AO in 2010 infact only one 3rd round for 2 whole years ..... ?

Answers:
1-Obviously no... although he challenged TOP 10 players in his matches
2-Yes 2011 Y.E. ranking 41 ----- 2012 Y.E. ranking 44
3-No... He said that he's a happy top-50 player
4-No... The streak lasted from 2003 to 2011 (9 consecutive years)
5-No... Since 2010 AO (11 GSs) he has: 1 N/A | 5 1R | 4 2R | 1 3R |

Now i want to discuss with you those questions in the end of 2012:
1-Can he at least once beat a top 10 player?
2-Will he remain in top-50 in the end of 2013?
3-Does he will retire during 2013 or in the end of the year?
4-Will he reach fourth round in a slam ?
5-Can he beat Nadal in 2013?

My opinion:
1-Yes he can and will beat 3 times a top 10 player !
2-Yes he will end in top 30!
3-He will retire in the end of 2013 i'm 100% sure!
4-Yes he will reach 2R AO | 3R FO | 1R WO | 4R UO !
5-Yes he can if they play on hard court! Thus ending 7-5 vs Nadal.

And last but not least
Have a nice and cozy winter with a lot of smiles :) !

my answers:

1. he's already proven this year that he can still beat top 10 opponents when he took down isner and had tsonga and fish on the ropes. So my answer is yes, definately

2. I hope so. He's still got game its just about confidence for him. I think he can, yeah

3. will he retire at the end of 2013? im not sure. Rmember that davy said that he will only play as long as he can get into masters main draws direclty. If he's in a position where he cant at the end of the year i bet he will. if he is ranked inside the top 30 or even top 20(which i still think he can make) then he'll keep going.

4. well he really should have made the 4th round at the US this year, its just a shame he had no serve or he would have taken out fish easily. I think he can, he'll just need some luck

5.why does that matter?

misty1
12-29-2012, 03:34 PM
he's got a really good draw in doha

R1 - Hanescu (3-0 in H2H)

R2 - Bolelli (3-0 H2H) or Gimeno traver( 1-1 H2H)

QF - likely lopez ( H2H 2-4 but he's won the last 2) or chardy (H2H 1-1)

sf - probably ferrer in the semi ( h2h 3-2)

he can definately make the final here and there arent to many guys i would say he has no chance against in the final

he has to take advantage of this draw.

great stats for the match. very good serve percentage, do boule faults and saved every break point against him. Also had a good winning percentage off his second serve and fantqastic break point conversion. Yeah i know its against hanescu but given the way that he has struggled against even the players he's owned before this is a great sign

if he can keep that up even against ferrer then i think he might have a good season

DOHA: Former champion Nikolay Davydenko of Russia yesterday crushed Romania’s Victor Hanescu in straight sets to launch his 2013 campaign on a winning note at the Qatar ExxonMobil Open.

Davydenko, the 2010 Qatar Open champion and 2011 runner-up, won 6-2, 6-3 in just 75 minutes. Yesterday’s easy win allowed the ‘grumpy-looking’ Russian to remain perfect against Hanescu, improving to 4-0 against the Romanian.

...(cut out other players' results)...

Davydenko said he did not not enjoy playing on New Year’s eve. “We’re playing in 2012. I really don’t enjoy playing on 31st. But anyway, I will enjoy not playing tomorrow (today),” the Russian said.

“I can really celebrate my party tonight and sleep and get ready to play on (January) 2nd,” Davydenko added yesterday after his easy win.

“I (am) really happy, you know, to win today’s match,” he said. The Russian said he has the fire to push himself for tennis glory in the 2013 season.

“I want to try to win next season, to play well again and keep my concentration,” he said.

“I’m not so young. Maybe I have two more years (on the Tour), maybe one more year,” he explained.

“I did not play well last season because I wasn’t very fit (but) I am still top 50,” Davydenko said.

“That’s was I need to think about that if there’s no injury, and if I can really concentrate well for my matches and during my practice (session), then maybe I can be top 20 (again). We will see what happens at the end of the new season,” Davydenko said.

I can add additional info from the ATP site :)
"Last season, I told everyone from my family and my brother, 'I will push myself,'" said the 31 year old. "I want to again. I want to try [this] season to play again and practise concentration, try to do [what] I can, because I'm already not so young. Maybe I have two more years, maybe one more year."

:) sooo he is serious about it !

I like how Davy started this season 5-2 :yeah: Now onto Montpellier :yeah: he is 7th seed there so i hope a QF there would be good :yeah: Davy gained 45 points in this year's AO so he'll be up from 1015 to 1050 points :yeah: which will move him 2-3 places above :yeah:

Davy lost in second round to Nieminen 3-6 6-7(8) but he was in the place of Berdych (means seeded to play from the second round) which means he gains 0 points .... that was a bad loss ... Next tournament Roterdam where he defends 180 points ......... Now he'll gonna fall once again in the rankings hard ... to around 47th place

well, this is interesting

Davydenko wins in his farewell year
Dubai | Published: February 27, 2013 - 2:48PM

Bernard Tomic retired with a "general illness" after only five games against Romania's Victor Hanescu at the Dubai Open, as Russian Nikolay Davydenko brought comedy and an upset to the seedings as he reached the second round.

Davydenko, who hopes to return to the top 20 as part of his farewell year, beat the sixth-seeded Serbian Janko Tipsarevic 6-0 7-5. But it took him half an hour to take the first two games, and 50 minutes to win the love set.

"After two games I was thinking 'match just starting - and I'm already tired', Davydenko said.

He also had a comic explanation for the sharp twist in the second set of a match which, having dominated, he suddenly found himself trailing by two breaks of serve before recovering.

"Before the second set he, like, go to toilet and come back and start to play better. I don't know what he did there."

Davydenko, currently down at 46 but still capable of significantly higher on the evidence of his enduringly excellent, early-taken ground strokes, was not apparently convinced he is on his way back to a ranking his best tennis would seem to justify.

"One day I play good. Next day I coming and I play like 300 year old," he said. "Sometimes I feel good, and sometimes like I say after one hour I'm so tired and just start to thinking why maybe I'm so old."

Davydenko does want to see if he can beat another top 10 player, as he did David Ferrer en route to the final in Doha last month.

He may get the chance. He next plays Hanescu, who got past Tomic, and if he survives that he should meet Roger Federer in the last eight.

well .. yeah..
So now he's got:
USO series - 45 Points to defend.
Asian swing - 90 Points to defend. (180 if we count Metz)
Indoor swing - 45 points.

270 points till the end of the year. That's a lot maybe if he defends his USO points or go 1 round further he'll do it and end the year inside top 45. :)

He withdrew from Basel too.
http://www.menstennisforums.com/showthread.php?p=18036801
So his season is over.

...I don't want to raise false hopes, but I personally believe he will be competing in 2014 again, after all.

Firstly, his injury (it's the other wrist this time) sounds like being healed up by December.
http://sports.ndtv.com/tennis/news/214598-nikolay-davydenko-makes-shock-first-round-exit-at-malaysian-open

Secondly, this season he won a whole 25% more in prize money than in 2012, and his ranking remained pretty much the same as well.

Of course, I can't tell about his family affairs etc., but in tennis regards things are looking quite well, actually.
So why would he retire?

I believe he will retire when his ranking drops too deep and the losing streaks are getting too long,
but not particularly when a season ends.

...A first glimmer of hope for him being willing to play in 2014 would be noticeable if he successfully appeals his Basel zero-pointer in front of the ATP.
His YE ranking points would increase then to a total of 890.
If he doesn't appeal they would remain 870, and that at least wouldn't be a good sign in respect of 2014, even though not an outright disqualifier either.
The appeal might be concluded around November, so I assume at the latest by December we will know.
:tennis:

^ Good news , thanks Featherer :)
We'll see in december. HOPING for a glamorous 2014 season :)

Featherer
10-29-2013, 06:30 PM
His zero pointer for Basel is already remitted. He is on 890 points now, which is 5 points more(!) than in his 2012 YE rankings after all.
He actually didn't have had to "appeal", but at least to provide the ATP "verified and approved medical forms".
That means he actively had to do something for his ranking points adjustment and that doesn't look like retirement to me.
Btw, he didn't yet officially announce his retirement either.
So ...I would interpret all that as some fairly good signs at least.

Already around November 19th (in only 3 weeks from now) the entry lists for the first week of the 2014 season will be out anyway. They might be worth a look for us!
