Even Ferrer can't defend a title which was won by Murray. ;)

Damm was hoping Lleyton wouldn't need a wildcard to get in here!!

Why does it matter, he'll still be in.

Great to see Benneteau and Melzer haven't retired.

He won Auckland last year and the year before, not this.

Great to see Benneteau and Melzer haven't retired.

In 2012, Benneteau had his best end-of-year ranking ever, and Melzer finished in the top-30

Odd not to see Tomic on the list.

ETA: ...because he's playing the Hopman Cup. Of course. D'oh!

yes they made an exchange with Hewitt : last year, Hewitt played the Hopman cup and Sydney, Tomic played Brisbane and Kooyong,
this year it's the opposite

Great to see Benneteau and Melzer haven't retired.

Because if he gets in direct then another aussie can use the wildcard :p

Does anyone know why this is now a 28-draw?
It always used to be a 32-draw.

This is gonna be pretty good, a lot of good players I like...Murray, Nishikori, Stepanek, Benneteau, Baghdatis, Goffin...

I just hope Goffin doesn't land in Murray's quarter. Hopefully closer to Raonic.

It always used to be a 32-draw.

Maybe because in the last 4 years it started at the beginning of the new year while this year it starts at the end of 2012? So the top seeds are free on Monday 31st :D.

I think you mean this year. It's a bit silly, but I guess Tennis Australia were looking more at recent form.

On second thoughts it may also have something to do with Duckworth being a direct acceptance for qualifying. This decision frees up another qualifying wild card.
