Which surfaces have you played on?

It doesn't matter if you are a professional or if you just like playing for fun (like myself), but it will be interesting to see where you prefer playing. Personally, the only surface I haven't played on is not surprisingly grass! Sure, it would be nice to try it one day, maybe when i go to GB=).

I have played on many different speeds of hard court, carpet, green clay, and a converted basketball court (no idea what you would call this surface -- I don't think it is real wood).

I have not yet played on red clay or grass, but I really want to!

Ive played on hardcourt, astro-turf, and also grass. I enjoyed playing on grass, its nice to move on and doesnt give you blisters like from a hardcourt :D

my old club i played at was great! it had 4 astro courts ( 1 court in its own separate cage) 2 hardcourts, macadam.
and 3 grass courts :D

I've play on outdoor hard court, indoor hard court, red clay (a lot on all of them) and a little bit on carpet that I didn't really like. And like most people probably I'd like to try playing on grass.

I'm just playing for fun, but I have played on:

red clay
indoor hardcourt
indoor carpet

And the latter one of these three is my favorite.
But the bad thing for me is that in Germany about 99% of all outdoor courts are clay  :sobbing:

would like to try grass and see what that feels like...

I've played on red clay and green clay, but mostly on hardcourts. What is it like playing on astroturf? I could rent an astro court for 10-15 dollars an hour total, is it worth it? Also, Mrs. B, what is a shell court?

its quite slow, alot slower than hardcourt, dont know how it can be compared to clay. but slice merchants can succeed on astro

joeb_uk
11-12-2004, 10:03 PM
bounce is also low, is very low compared to hard

SwissMister1

Nice! I use a slice backhand, and the surface sounds like it suits my game. I want to try it out, although I'll have to wait until spring. How does the court feel underneath?

I've played on clay outdoors, which I'm not keen on, and indoors, which is seriously weird and head-wrecking. Also on carpet (don't like because the ball barely bounces) and Rebound Ace indoors (the best of the lot!)

I started playing on Red CLay and indoors (carpet) when i lived in Russia, but since i'm now in US I mostly play on hardcourts. I don't really like Green Clay. :)

I've played on harcourts (Decoturf, Greenset), Red Clay (indoor and outdoor) and basketball surface (this sucks). I haven't had the chance to play on grass yet but I'd love to.
My favorite surface is clay.

i've played on hardcourts, clay, indoors on a wood-like surface, rebound ace, and asphalt. yes, i swear i played once on asphalt. the bounce is horrible and the balls die after 30 minutes.

I've only played on public hardcourts(asphalt).

Where are these other surface courts that you play in?
Only the high high end country clubs in america will have other surfaces and even then its usually just hardcourt and green clay

Is that a generic question? A lot of where people play generally depends on their location and as you know it's an international board, so there are some surfaces more common in some places than others.

Hard courts ( of Dubai Tennis Championships), and red clay (I think it was a pretty fast red clay).

As I live in Dubai, it's hardcourts all the time.

Are you any good on grass? I love to play on grass, it really suites my game. I guess it helps having a good serve and volley game, which I do, and I use it frequently on grass.

Myself on grass well lets say I am as bad if not worse than some people think of Gaudio's chances of winning a match or a set in Houston.

I can answer that question.
The shitty asphalt courts are free in the community park.
Astroturf when I was in Australia seems to be choice of courts there mainly because they are fairly cheap to maintain.
Grass was someone being a member of a club.
Red Clay is the common surface where I grew up.
Rebound Ace in Australia, well you can hire the courts.
Carpet, well can't play on clay all year round, so the indoor halls are used.
Hardcourts happened to be around in a few places as well.

No, that would probably cost $120 per hour.

I have to say I hated grass in a big way, but it was fun to play on the surface.

Indoor hard - probably my favourite of the surfaces I have played on - a few years ago I used to play every week on indoor hard at a leisure centre near me, but the cost of hiring a court there has risen so much since then, and now it is much too expensive for me to afford :(
Outdoor hard
Asphalt
Astroturf

I really want to try playing on clay and grass at some stage, but there aren't any courts of either surface anywhere near where I live, so I haven't had the opportunity yet.

Red clay is the most fun easily so, but the hardest to get clean after falls on the surface.

Too bad you weren't around the mid 80s if you think you can't watch it now. :)

Myself I loved it and still love playing and watching claycourt tennis. At the same time I am happy that I experienced other surfaces.

I know! My clothes are a complete disaster! LOL!!! And don't get me started on my shoes!
A friend of mine has built a "grass court" in her yard, so she invited me to play there next week. With my Dementieva's service I know the final score already! LOL

I have given up on the shoes actually, there isn't any hope for them any more.

Come on you couldn't be as bad as the time I played on grass, though not as bad as my good friend GWH. Seeing him on a grasscourt was a thing of comedic beauty. :)

Well, now that I think about it, maybe there's something I can do. I'm good at volleying, so I can play alla Henman. LOL! I'll have fun for sure.
About the shoes, my mom gets them really white again, but I have no idea how she does it. I'm afraid that if I ask her I might have to clean them from now on ;)

I had these horrible fears about playing on grass and it wasn't so bad. I actually managed to win a set off the guy who I was playing and I was over the moon with that.

That footage is rare about our favourite grasscourter on here.

I have tried that with the shoes, but some things are better for mothers to know.

Why do you think that you don't win as much on the clay?

Because, I am better suited for faster surfaces with my attacking game. I don't have the speed to keep up with a lot of other players on clay, though I can adapt my game using good kick serves and angled volleys, but I suck as a grinder because I can't run everything down.

Predominantly on Astroturf, Rebound Ace and Hardcourt. I used to play on grass a fair bit, but it's far too slippery for my liking.

Clay courts are few and far between in Sydney.

So far I've played on Hardcourt, Synthetic Grass and a weird running track (red rubbery) type of material. Not too sure how to describe it.

I'm really interested to play in clay... :)
