Me too!!! I think he would have done great this year! If that stupid Rebound Ace hadn't messed up his Aussie Open! Can't they replace the stuff when it obviously causes lots of trouble when heating up!

Charly will get to the last 8! (at least!!!!)

yes, it was a huge shame he couldn't make it this year...he was on such a roll after Chennai and Sydney :( hopefully next year will be much much better!

I rather have a good feeling about RG. This year Marat and Roger must to defend many points in Australia and we don't forget both of them are with very good flurry. On the other hand Carlos is much better than Gastón in clay. In fact, he's much better than many players (including Roger) in clay. We must to wait and see what happen with Coria in 2005

Hey Nando, Deco, Emily, Carlita.... I have a good feeling about the AO too! He has no points to defend. And I hope he's got over the choking part now. Roll on, next tennis season! :bigclap: :bounce: RG should be fun too, Carolina!

:) Guillermo is a very dangerous player in clay. Carlos it’s great in clay too, but in slow clay courts "el mago" is better than "Charly". This year the Suzanne Lenglen court was very, very slow and everyone knows what happens in this quarterfinal Roland Garros match. A healthy Juanqui could beat any player in clay, like Guga. Who knows what’s going to happen …

:) Yeah, it’s true, but RG is a two weeks tournament and any match is a five-setter match … you must be very focused and play your best tennis if you want to win seven matches in a round.

I feel there will be three major contenders for Roland Garros this season... Roger Federer, Guillermo Coria, and Carlos Moya.

:) Yeah, Roger is a great player, but in Roland Garros a good draw is very important. Next season low-ranked players like Albert Costa, Àlex Corretja, Félix Mantilla, and many others will be “black horses” players in the first rounds. The three spaniards beat Roger in clay in the past. Albert this year in Rome in a two sets match, but Félix and Àlex in five-setter matches (Félix in Rome’s last year final and Àlex two times in the French Open). I think next year isn’t Roger’s time in RG jet).

I also don't think Rogi will be able to do it at RG next year...it's definitely his weakest Grand Slam and there are way too many other contenders who can play superbly on clay. I also don't think Marat will be able to win RG because he always makes hard work for himself and having long, tough matches on clay really kills...I think it will be a latino player again (maybe Carlos or Juanqui?!)

Carlita
12-20-2004, 10:47 AM

;) Yeah! I think so. In the last eight years, Andre Agassi is the only ”no latino” player who won Roland Garros. And actually “The Spanish Armada” and Latin Americans players are invincible on clay. Since last year, Guillermo “El Mago” Coria is the best clay court player in the world. Maybe 2005 will be Coria’s year in Paris.

You should go even if your friends don't want to. Sometimes it's better that way, you can do exactly what you want and don't have to worry about if anyone else is bored or having to leave a match/training to see other people. :)

Hope you get to see Carlos if you go though!!

It's good when you're with someone who shares your interest in the same players. Sometimes when I was at Roland Garros I wanted to see Nyborg play, and my friend the Jensens...we'd just go there and whoever finished worst would go to the other one, or just meet in the square!
I'm curious how that will go in Barcelona next year! Although Tineke and I have almost the same taste!!! She's going to need an extra holiday after being in Barcelona with me! hahahaha!

Oh yes, :worship: to Carlos! And the others who will compete there! I just can't help but worry a little.... I hope nothing bad happens again.... of course it's not said that another earthquake/tidalwave will follow.

As I read somewhere on MTF, the tournament is not held close to the beaches, so guys: stay at the hotel, play, go back to the hotel! Carlos, when you get bored, play with your playstation  (or Flavia ;) )

 I was just joking a littlehttp://smileys.******************/cat/7/7_1_112.gif ..... all I want (as we all do of course) is for everyone who will go there to return home (or go to the next tournament) safely. Anything could happen.... but also everywhere else in the world. So better not think too much about what MIGHT happen.....we'll all go nuts! It must be so hard on all the people in that part of the world..... Lots of strength to them

~EMiLiTA~
12-29-2004, 12:06 PM

i read somewhere that he is going to be doing a tennis clinic for children while he is out there

from ABC news Indian ATP event to go ahead
The season-opening ATP Indian Open will go ahead as scheduled next week in Chennai, despite the heavy death toll caused by tsunami tidal waves in the area.

"The tournament is definitely on and no player has pulled out," said Ravi Krishnan of the International Management Group, which has organised the event for the past eight years.

Around 4,500 people died in Chennai during Sunday's giant waves triggered by an earthquake off the Indonesian coast.

World number five Carlos Moya of Spain and Paradorn Srichaphan of Thailand top the list of players taking part in the event beginning on January 3.

Moya, who defeated Paradorn in the final last season, returns to defend his crown after leading Spain to victory in the Davis Cup final against the United States earlier this month.

The organisers will host a charity auction this Sunday to raise funds for the tsunami victims.

Among the items to be auctioned are caps, racquets and shirts signed by leading players like Maria Sharpova, Venus Williams and former greats Bjorn Borg and Chris Evert.

Thanks for posting that article Jogg. I also found some additional info at the ATP site about arrangements for Chennai:

The ATP has joined with tournament organizers of the Chennai Open to support relief efforts benefiting victims of the tsunami which has devastated Southern Asia. The ATP will take the $25,000 sanction fee for the tournament and direct it in full to the UNICEF emergency relief effort in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, of which Chennai is the capital.

The tournament will conduct a charity auction on Sunday, January 2, one day before the tournament begins, with proceeds to benefit the UNICEF relief effort. Items to be auctioned include a shirt signed by defending Chennai Open champion Carlos Moya. Additional activities in support of the relief effort will be conducted during next week’s Chennai Open.

From ATP Site

Defending Chennai Open champion Carlos Moya will support the relief effort.
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jonas Bjorkman :worship: Statement on Tsunami Relief Effort

We have all witnessed unimaginable scenes from South Asia the last
few days. The horrific tragedy that has followed the earthquake at
sea last Sunday is impossible to fully comprehend or put into words.
But it is possible to act. Everybody who can should do whatever they
can to support the victims of the tragedy. Help will be needed for a
long time to come.

As tennis players, we can support India and the surrounding area in
the way that we play the tournament in Chennai as planned. And more
so. The tournament in Chennai and ATP have decided to raise money for
the victims of the catastrophe, and so have the players. Mahesh
Bhupathi and I, who will play the doubles together in Chennai, will
donate prize money, and I am right now trying to reach the other
players in Chennai to follow our example in a way that they feel is
appropriate. As soon as we all come together in Chennai, we will
decide how to move forward.

This is an act of deeply felt sympathy, and it is the least we can
do.

Yep, saw her play doulbes today with Schiavone. Lost to Dementieva/Sugiyama in possibly the best women's doubles I have ever seen in my life. Penetta was outstanding at the net, but her serve was poor... she didn't hold serve once in the last set. Score was 6/3 2/6 7/6
