Biggest Chokes of 2012?

Henry Chinaski
01-07-2012, 01:06 AM
Sydney R1 Qualies: Marinko Matosevic led Kukushkin 6-1 5-1. Lost 6/7(5) 2-6.

Last week in Chennai we had Kavcic losing from 6-4 5-1 to Darcis.

These two will be tough to beat come the end of the year.

Hopefully someone saw the matches and there were some extenuating circumstances for either player.

Keep track of only the major, major ones in here. Will be fun to look back on in the off season

I'm hearing that Dusan Lajovic led Matteo Viola 5-0 in the third set and then *5-4 40-0

"at least 6 or 7 match points" according to source.

Oz Open R1 qualies:

Viola d Lajovic 6-2, 6-7(8), 8-6

that's impossible ...........I want the stats
Not impossible....

cos it happened you dont need stats i was following the scores.

Lajovic led 5-0 40-0 3mps to break for the match then had 2 more mps in that game

Then next game served for the match and led *5-1 40-15

5-2* there was a long break for whatever reason.

Was then leading *5-3 15-0 and 30-30 in that game broken again.

5-4* 30-30

*5-5 somehow saved a 15-40 as if he could actually survive this choke.

6-5* 40-30 to break for the match

So to sum up 8mps, and served for the match twice 1 thing remains clear this lajovic is a definate choker to look out for in the future.

Maximo Gonzalez l. to Rogerio Dutra Silva 60 67 36
Gonzalez only lost 7 points in the opening set, and finished the match with 7 more points than Dutra Silva.

They each had two breaks of serve in the second set, and I think it's safe to assume that Gonzalez got at least one of his two before Rogerio.

Which player did that the most this year?

The biggest choke is debatable. The worst choke is Cilic by a country mile. Unlike Berdych, there was no wind problems...he had the match on his racket and just lost it. The consequence of that led to Murray winning his first slam.

Way worse than Cilic imo

156mphserve
11-10-2012, 01:22 AM
imo while Cilic did choke the 2nd set badly, it wasn't a huge match choke. Cilic could have tanked the 2nd set 6-1 and still lost. He could have held every one of his service games till the end of the match and still lost. It wasn't like he was well in control on the match and cruising to the finish, he was well in control of set 2 and cruising to a 2 sets lead. So most chokes in the poll are worse because they actually had the match on their racket and not just a 2 set lead on their racket(except Bubka)
